The wooden floor tweaked. I raised my one eyelid. Something was moving on the floor. I pulled the robes of my night gown closer. Again I could hear a scratching sound. Was he here? I had locked the room from inside out before positioning myself in the huge bed and trying to sleep which was determined to evade me. The locking system was an upgraded version of B-03. Did he knew the password?
I chided myself for this thought. Why would he break in my room in the middle of the night? He surely had no interest in exercising his rights as my husband whatsoever. A huge metallic sound boomed off the floor.
"AAArrRggghHH" I screamed at the top of my lungs and jumped off the bed switching on the lights. I was alone in the room.
"Open the door." He gently knocked on the door.
I pressed the green button and saw him standing outside in his blue sweatshirt and white pajamas looking utterly bored.
"Saw a bad dream? Or are you still chicken to sleep alone? Sorry moma's not here. Learn to sleep with mouth shut cause otherwise you have none but me for company here."
"What?..I didn't...You...I don't want you on my room!"
"Your room? Since when you started to have feelings of ownership in my property? It's your guest room. Mind it. And don't worry I have no interest left in sharing anything with you lest a room. But then if you disturb my sleep howling like a wolf in midnight what choices I get left then?" he raised his brow.
A small pug with one eye black and the other white stared out at me from behind his back.
"Is that ugly creature yours? He was the one making those weird sounds in the corridor!"
"That's a Polish breed. One of the rarest and expensive kinds. His name is Ralph. Take care not to scare him with your howling in the night."
"What the...?"
He took Ralph in his arms and walked back to his room impervious to my presence.
I stared at the ceiling again at those twinkling neon lights danced in the dark above. He still remembers that? I shook my head. No flashbacks this time. I was determined not to let past memories invade me.
...A huge lushy green meadow with yellow sunflowers swaying in the gentle breeze. There was a small shining creek running criss-cross across the meadow. A white bench stood there. Two persons were sitting there beginning to feel the magic of love entwining hands...
The strong blazing light irritated me. I tried blocking the sunlight with my hands raised. How could the early morning rays be so harsh? I looked at wall clock. It was five minutes fast ten. Hurriedly I woke up rubbing my eyes. The stupid dream had made me so late.
He was sitting on the breakfast table all dressed up and eating his French toast overlooking his i-pad.
"Surfing bikini babes this early?"
"If only I had not the misfortune to keep up with the latest stock market trends I would have been surfing them."
"Such a pity." I sat on the opposite chair and started to make myself a toast.
"Why don't you translate your compassion into action and care to don one of those for me?"
"What?" I choked on my bread coughing loudly.
He rolled his eyes and went back to his I-pad as I gulped down water. Silence reigned the dining table.
"How's Angelena doing? " I finally asked . My patience was giving away.
The temperature in the room suddenly went down. The atmosphere intensified the moment I uttered her name. His face went stonier if possible. He slowly raised his eyes to meet mine and coldly retorted. "Never saw her look better now that you mentioned." He went back to his i-pad without change of expression.
Hot fuming coals seemed to burn inside me. Suddenly I felt sick.
"Why me? Why did you marry me?"
Without bothering to look at me he replied" Just go and attend your new job. Being late on the first day do not leave a good impression."
"It could have been Angelena in my place. Why me?"
He raised his head this time." Don't make your little head float that I still care for you. I had no option but to choose you."
"What crap are you saying? What options you had? Why the hell you married me? I have a right to know!"
"You asked before marriage and my answer has not yet changed. You don't need to know."
"Damn! I am your freaking legal wife for god's sake! I was duped into this by you!"
"You weren't convinced by my proposal before. Yet you agreed to marry me. You had your own selfish priorities well-etched from before."
"I thought I could handle it. But it's suffocating me now. The task of seeing your face every moment in close proximity is daunting."
"Trust me I don't feel anything but repulsion at the sight of you. Still I am bearing you. You have the option to leave my house. I don't give two hoots."
I raised his collar lurching at him." Just answer me! Why did you marry me now? I am not letting you go without an answer! You were no where all these years and now you've no right to play with my emotions. Is it for that night??"
He brutally jerked me away. " I do not seek revenge for that night. You didn't want to listen to me then . I have no intention in making myself clear to you anymore."
"Who are you interested in then? That bitch?"
"Shut your mouth or else I will."
"Huh...As if you can dare to touch me anymore...You can have that bitch all to yourse..."
His watery tongue lashed inside my mouth as he smashed his lips against mine. Trying hard to balance myself as my knees started to go weak I pulled back his hair only to pull him more closer. His hot breath conveyed the intensified emotions. My hands inadvertently went up to his shirt buttons and began to unbutton them. I fell on the couch behind with him over as we began to lose our senses. A moan escaped my mouth as his mushy movements glided down my throat and went further down. My toes hurted under the pressure of his strong feet. An electric impulse rushed all over the skin on my body as his hands slided down my waist.
"Arnav!" My strength was threatening to give away.
He rose up and bend down to pick up his tie that I had thrown off. Red nail marks shone on his chest as cheeks reddened the same shade. Hastily I went about to unruffled my dress taking care not to look at him.
"Don't dare me in the future. One can manage his own emotions but it gets a little difficult when the other person is not willing to let go off hers."

"I am done." He raised his hands giving up. " Your painting is perfectly in the middle of the wall. If you don't find it perfect, the fault lies in your eyes."
"Arnav! This is an artifact I inherited from my granny. According to Feung- shi it should exactly be in the center of the wall else….."
"Else?"
"Else it brings bad luck upon a new couple." I whispered afraid.
"Don't know about that but if couples keep bickering about putting that thing in the middle, it will land in the middle of them. They are bound to break-up."
"What? No, I don't want that to happen. We have just started…I mean..you ..you have only recently proposed me." I lowered my eyes blushing.
"Are you insane? I only told you that I don't dislike you."
"But that's the same right? You even kissed me on graduation night. So its equivalent that you love me too?" I beamed delighted at my calculations.
"Easy girl, I just acknowledged your feelings for me. You had always been a problem for me. A difficult with no solution. For the first time in my life I did not know how to solve a problem. I tried the easier way out. I tried running away from it. But it was tough with you always following me around. Now I have realized I need to face the problem to find the right answer. That doesn't mean I have fallen for you."
"Oh…"
"If you don't get it…then just forget it."
"NO…No..I do." I clutched his arm tightly laying my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes shut." It's enough for me that you don't dislike me like I used to think. I know I always kind of a bug following you everywhere, meddling in between . I thought you liked girls only like Angelena. I am so happy to be proved wrong. Truly I am so grateful for I have always loved you." Tears brimmed in my eyes.
Subversive to my knowledge , Arnav smiled hearing my words.
"Hey don't you have the college placements to attend? It's getting late."
"Yeah..today the PR groups are coming. Hope they hire me as a writer." I quickly wiped away the tears looking up." Let's go."
"Errr….My hand , Khushi"
"Oh..Sorry. " I instantly let go off his.

"Oh…Sorry." I bend down to pick up the files.
"Sorry, Sir. That's the way you say Miss."
"Arnav." My jaw dropped.
"Rodger. I told you to teach your employees some manners. I will not have liberal Americanism ruin my office!"
"Sorry Sir. She's a new company hire. khushi , he is the board director. Apologize." A short portly man in mid-thirties roared in my ears. He was Rodger Bells- my supervisor head.
"Yes Sir." I grumpily nodded. With my teeth clenched I apologized." My apologies Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada for colliding into you."
"You'll regret this." I added in a low fierce tone.
He smirked," Faulty employees who don't heed their bosses are the first ones to fall victim to the economic slowdown."
"I'll take care of that , Sir."
"Very well. Rodger we have wasted enough time. Follow me to my cabin. The ASPS_ #TH deal is surely going to……………………………." His voice trailed as they went towards the lift to reach his 15 storeyed high cabin.
I went back to my small office space in the first floor angrily bumping the papers. Finally I got my dream job as a writer for CNBS network. But at what price? To be regularly humiliated and subdued by him? The papers crushed in a ball.
I need to do something. The world needs to know I am his lawfully wedded wife. Then only he'll stop acting so smart! I am doing a contract marriage with him for this job , not to take his daily crap.
My eyes lit as a devilish plan to uncover his secret flashed in my mind. But before that I needed my revenge for today.

"Khushi! Khushi can you hear me?"
"Louder Arnav!!" I shouted over the phone.
"It's past midnight now. Where the hell are you? What's that noise behind you?"
"Party Arnav! My new colleagues have thrown a welcome party for me. Rob is the one to thank for all this…Tskk…shkkk…….."
"What was that? Why are your words coming cut?"
"We are dancing now! I'll come late Arnav. Good-night." I hung up my cell and taking another shot I hit the dance floor.
Rob. Anne, Tez, Alex and Beth were my new colleagues. Rob had invited me to this welcome party at Maddiz night club which I had gladly accepted on purpose. Their idea of fun was limited to drinks, dance and some real flirting.

As I grooved wherever my body swung to the beats a firm hand clutched my wrist." Party's over Khushi", he growled.
"Ar-my-knee" I tried figuring out his face as the disco lights revolved like the alcohol inside of me." Let me dance some more." I sprung my hands around his neck inching closer."
"Girl you are drunk."
"No…I no drink. I good girl." I pouted.
"Sir, you'r here?" Each one of them looked shocked.
"Mind your businesses, Who's Rob?"
"Sir that's me." A lean and then bespectacled guy in his young twenties stood forward.
"Does anyone of you have a driver?"
"No sir." He looked puzzled at the rest of them at Arnav's question.
" Then with no cabs available outside at this hour how do you plan to reach home tonight?"
"Ar-my-knee look at me" I sang in lullaby. Alice and Beth looked afraid and they gave me warning signs that I was in my Boss's arms.
He straightened me turning his attention back to Rob and company. "I asked how will you all go home this drunk? Are you guys gonna drive drunk? " he minced with cold fury.
"Sir..No..we..we've got the public transport for that. We are taking the subway."
"It's already past mid-night. The subways close soon in an hour. Leave right now."
"Right sir. " petrified of Arnav , everyone tried making a dash for the exit.
"Hey take her with you, your colleague."
" Ar-my-knee…….you are sending me with THEM?" my jaw dropped.
"That's what you wanted right?" coldly he jerked me away and started to leave.
"Khushi….Cummon let's go." Alice held my hand. I set it aside dashing clumsily behind him.
"YOU…you…I hate you! I hate you with all my power. You are a badass jerk!"
"Khushi, he's your boss…you are drunk heavily girl…"
"Always so high headed! Who are you? God? I am not going. No one is going anywhere. I am dancing again."I crossed my arms determined.
He turned around. "Dance then. But if you come late for office tomorrow , be ready with your resignation else you'll be fired."
"You horrible jerk!" I lurched at him only to fall half-way. Alice supported me to regain my stance." Whatever soft corner I ever had left for you has vanished completely now! I only hate you now!"
"You are the only light in this dark world full of scary people. Like a gentle river you guide me along. I just need to see your beautiful face to make my dull lectures seem bright. The day I don't see you in college……….."
I threw a nearby bottle at him which he cleverly ducked." How dare you!!!!"
"Did you wrote a love letter to him?" Rob looked at me astounded.
"I will kill you Today ,Ar-my-knee you scoundrel….."I lurched with greater strength this time letting free of Alice's support but fell flat at Arnav's feet.
"Ouch…."I rubbed my head. My head hurt from the fall. It was spinning badly.
"Get up Khushi" Someone shoved my back.
"Get up girl."
"Are you alright Khushi?"
Different voices shouted at once of which I couldn't make out any sense. I tried rising up but my body didn't listen to my head's instructions as it remained flat on the glass- floor.
"Hey. Leave her. Get back everyone!"
"Khushi hold on ."
" Ar-my-knee." I raised my eyes to stare in his beautiful dark brown ones. He made me sit and the made me hop on to his back. Like a baby I clung on to him as his took me outside.
It was warm snuggling in his velvety soft hair. I held tightly across his chest determined not to let go off the warm tinkling feeling that crawled inside me wherever his body was in contact with mine. Rich lavender scent emanated from his body engulfing my senses. My legs slid off his waist as he jerked me higher so I could cling properly to his back.
"Do you have any heart problem?"
"Huh?"
"Why is your heart pounding so loud then?"
I raised my chest from his back wondering how he heard that.
"Take care of it. Else you'll have problem having babies ."
"WHAT?"
"Babies. That's what I said. Your heart wants that, right?" he smirked.
"Hey! " I slacked him hard on the back distancing myself as far as possible for him. As a result I was hanging in mid-air.
"Hey!!" he lost his balance too.
"Heyy!!!" everyone behind us shouted as they saw both of us fall infront of the night-club.
