My perfect match
Chapter 1
Milfort. This is where I live. It's a small town in Georgia. I live here with my mum in our small but perfect home. My dad doesn't live with us. He lives with his second wife. And they have a daughter of my age; Jessica, she is 17. I do miss my dad but I don't like to talk about it.
Unlike other days, today I feel alive. I feel like finally I won't be surviving but living my life. And it's a great feeling. It does feel great when you know that you are special for someone. It feels great when you know someone loves you as much as you love them. And it feels much more great when you finally express your feelings for that special one. But in my case, it's a little different. I didn't tell "him" about my feelings. I told his best friend. Well, Ryan is like that! He makes me say things which is in my mind. I don't know how he does that but I really hate it! But this time I loved it. When I told him that I love him best friend Eric, he first gave a laugh and told we are perfect for each other. He calls both of us crazy. Well, I can't blame him. We are crazy when we get together. And the next thing he told took me by surprise. Eric loves me too!
I don't know when I started falling for Eric. All I know is that now I am madly in love with him. I hid it from everyone because I knew that my friend Katherine loves him. But she is already in a relationship with Jack. Jack proposed her and she accepted. Maybe just to make Eric jealous. But I guess she doesn't know he is in love with me. Today I will tell her. I hope she will understand me.
"Jenna, the breakfast is ready." I heard Stephanie calling from downstairs. I put my black jacket on and hurried downstairs. A black jacket is a must whenever I go out.
"Mom left?" I asked Stephanie as I sat on the chair and took an apple from the fruit basket. Stephanie is our maid. Actually she is more like a family member to us. She has been with us for more than 6 years and now we have a very good relationship with each other. "Yeah she left a little early today." My mom runs a coffee shop; Roberts caf. It's our family surname and mine too. Actually my name should be Jenna Wright as it's my dad's surname. But after their divorce my mom changed my surname to hers. So now I am Jenna Roberts.
"Isabelle told that you don't need to come to the caf today. Do I need to explain why?" Seriously? Mom is too much! "But Stephanie! I told her it's just a scratch!" My mom still treats like a six year old! Can anyone just tell her that I am SEVENTEEN! Now she is asking me not to come to caf because last night I fell and slipped and hit my forehead on the desk. I agree it was bleeding for a while but now I am perfectly fine! "So am I forbidden to go to the library too?" I asked taking a bite from the apple. I work in the Milfort's Public Library. Many people think library is a very boring place. But I really like it. It's quiet and you have no one to disturb you. Just the way I want my life to be.
"Well, you are paid for it so you are allowed to go there." I rolled my eyes and she gave a chuckle.
Stephanie is ordered by mom not to let me go until I finish up my breakfast. So as always, I ate my breakfast like a good child and walked out from the house. Abbie was already waiting for me in her car. Abigail Jason; my best friend. We are like forever friends. We are best friends since third grade. I share everything with her. But I never talk to her about my dad. I don't know why, but I don't feel right to talk about him. I don't want anyone to know that I still miss him. Not even my mom.
I got in the car and without even saying hello to me, she asked. "Did you talk to Eric?" I told her about Eric. Last night after Ryan's call, I immediately dialed her number and told our full conversation to her. "No." I said casually brushing my hair with my hands. I have straight brown hair and dark brown eyes unlike Abbie. She is blonde and her eyes are blue. Unlike her, I'm not very pale, I have olive skin.
"You two are so boring! Ryan had to play cupid for b'" She stopped. "What's that?" She pointed towards my forehead. "Oh Ah.. That's just a scratch." I said touching it with my hands. "You fell when Ryan told you about Eric?" Abbie chuckled. "Leave that and drive fast! Steve will be waiting for you." I teased her. Steven is her boyfriend. He is pretty handsome.
We arrived at Milfort's high school. Today we have English class. We entered the classroom and the first person I saw was Eric, looking at me with his light brown eyes. Maybe he was waiting for me to come. Beside him was Ryan. When he saw me he winked and coughed. Eric hit him with his book. I tried to hold back my chuckled and went to my seat. Abbie and I sit just behind Ryan and Eric. Actually there is a little mistake in the seating. I should be on Abbie's seat, so that Eric would be right in front of me. Mr. Smith entered the classroom and we all greeted him. He started the class.
Whenever Mr. Smith turns to the blackboard, Ryan would turn back to me and point his finger towards Eric. This time I was waiting for him to turn and when he did I threw my pen at him, but he ducked and it hit on Dennis' head. He took the pen and looked back at us. "Sorry buddy. That was me." Ryan lied. Dennis smiled at gave the pen to him. "It's okay." That's why I like Ryan. He knows very well to handle a situation. Dennis and I were in a relationship when we were 16. We broke up after 2 months when I realized he isn't that into me. He just had a crush on me so started to date me. I know he still hates me for that. But now he is in a relationship with Vanessa. And there comes another hater for me. Vanessa hates me even more than Jessica does I guess. Jessica and I are together in French classes. I wonder when was the last time she looked at me.
Ryan turned back to me and showed my pen. He gave a wicked smile and said. "Hey Ric! Isn't this a pretty pen?" He asked dramatically. Eric looked at my pen and nodded. "Pretty people will have pretty things you see." He said, looking at Ryan. "Oooh! That was'" Ryan tried to find a word and Abbie helped him. "Epic romantic!" She raised her eyebrows at me. I tried very hard not to blush but I failed.
The lesson went well. Every day after school Abbie drops me to my house. But today someone else did. Eric asked me to if I would like to go with him. I agreed and got in his car. He drove silently for a long time but then spoke. "How did that happen?" He asked, I knew what he was talking about. "Umm.. I slipped and got hurt. It's nothing serious you know." I tried to sound normal. But I can't deny that we both were feelings awkward. Who would have thought that we both will fall for each other! He links me with almost every boy in high school and I always link him with Katherine. The whole class calls us "tom and jerry". Funny isn't it? There is not a day we don't bicker. But today, we hardly spoke in the class. Obviously we are feeling awkward. Who wouldn't feel? None of us have ever thought that we would have feelings for each other.
"We are here." He said when we arrived at my house. I undid my seatbelt and stepped out of the car. He too came out and walked towards me. "Jenna.." He came closer to me. I thought he was going to ask me out. But I was wrong. "Jenna. I hope you will understand what I'm going to say. Look, you know how I am at school. I don't want anybody to interfere in my life. If our relationship gets revealed, many would comment on it which I definitely wouldn't like. So.." This is one thing that I hate about Eric. He cares too much about people's opinion about him. His image. "So you want to keep it a secret?" I asked him.
"Yeah. I want it to be a secret. And after sometime we can tell everyone about it. I just need some time. "
"I can understand Eric. It isn't a problem at all. We both know that we love each other so that's enough for me." I knew I meant it. But something was bugging me. I don't know why. "Yeah I know." He said. We stood there in silence and finally I spoke. "I guess I got to go now. Bye Eric." I smiled. He smiled back. "Bye. I love you." He then hugged me.
Am I being too fast in choosing my partner? Is Eric the perfect match for me? I lied on my bed, hugging a pillow close to my chest. A while later my phone rang. I held it in my hand and saw Ryan's name flashing. I gave a loud sigh. I was sure Eric must have told him about our conversation and he is now calling to clarify what Eric meant. As if I don't know what he meant. I switched off my phone.
I have evening shift from 5pm to 7pm in the library. I was getting ready to go to the library. I applied a little bit of mascara on my eyes and light powder foundation on my face. I applied strawberry lip gloss on my lips.
I always walk to library because it's very near to my house. It takes just 5 to 6 minutes to reach there. I entered the library and sat on my table. I'm the one who help people to find the books they want. It's a very easy task. You just have to enter the name of the book on the computer and the shelf number will appear on the screen. So the customers can go and find the books easily. I was searching for some books on the computer when someone asked me; "Excuse me, can you please help me to find a book?" Without looking at the customer I asked. "Yes. What's the name of the book?"
"10 ways to pacify Jenna." I nodded but then realized what the customer just said and looked at him. Ryan! I glared at him but he grinned. "I'm sorry there is no such book like that." I said formally. But I knew he wasn't a person who is going without doing what he came to do. He turned to Laura sitting beside me who records the book transactions. "Ma'am, can you please help me to find this book?" He asked in a sweet voice. She turned to me. "Jenna will help you." She smiled at him. "But ma'am she isn't.." I interrupted him. "Follow me." He then looked at me and smiled. I sighed and got up from my chair and walked towards the book shelves.
I stopped at a shelf and turned to him. "Why are you doing this? What if they get wrong impression about us from your behavior?" I asked. "That doesn't matter. So I was here to.." That doesn't matter. That was the only thing I could hear. I could see his lips moving but didn't hear a word from him. It doesn't matter. Yes! Ryan has always been like this. He doesn't care about what people think about him. He always does what he thinks is right. Eric and Ryan are so different! Yet they are best friends. I wish if Eric also was like him. Ryan would be a perfect life partner for a girl.
"Hello!" I came back to my senses when he waved his hand in front of me. I took a deep breath and spoke. "Ryan, would you mind if I ask you a question?" I knew he wouldn't but asking is a good thing. "Yeah! But first you have to promise me you will call Ric. You know his ego! He won't call you even if he is dying to hear your voice until you call him. He thinks you are upset with him" He was right. Ego. That was the main problem in Eric. But I wasn't upset with Eric. Anyways my question was much more important than this ego thing so I agreed. "Yes I will. Now can I ask you a question?" He nodded.
"Why won't you get in a relationship with Sophie? Don't tell me that you don't know she loves you!" Of course he won't be able to escape with that answer. I have told him about Sophie several times. Sophie and I are friends. So she always asks me to help her to get him as she knows me and Ryan are good friends.
"Jenna. Why won't you get it? She doesn't love me. She just wants to prove that any boy can be hers. Since I have never been in a relationship, she wants to prove that she can even date me." I knew he wasn't lying. "Then why don't you be in a relationship with someone?" I asked. He is perfect! Anyone could fall for him. Anyone can fall for his blue eyes. He ran his hands through his black hair. That's a thing he often does when he gets into a serious conversation. I have noticed it several times.
"I want a girl who will love me more than anything. Who will stand by me always. Who will love me for who I am not who she want me to be." I kept listening to him. It was so nice to meet a person with the same thoughts as mine. "And I want to love her more than she does." Our eyes met. I don't know what, but there was a strangle feeling inside my heart. "So did you find that girl?" I asked unknowingly. He chuckled. I didn't laugh at all. I was waiting for an answer. "I was just joking! You are so serious!" I felt a little bit irritated by this. He has always joked when he is around me but this time I didn't like it. I don't know why.
"And you never be serious!" I threw the pen which I was holding. It hit him on the chest. "Ouch! Is that your weapon?" He again joked, and this time I laughed. It's very hard to be angry with Ryan. "ha ha! Very funny!"
"Hey I got to go. And don't forget to call Ric okay!" He then left. I promised him so I will have to call Eric. But seriously! Why can't he just call me? If he loves me then he will call me. His ego is bigger than his love for me!
