Chapter 4A: Aankhen khuli hai tere intezar mein….
……"kehna tha bas teen hi shabd tumse……shaayad rokhletha tumhe apne paas Riyaaa………."
She opened her eyes as if she heard him calling her name and replied "kaash aap ek baar keh dehthe sir…..aaj hum dono saath hote…..aur khush hote…."
A lone tear escaped her eyes as she said that…..
Hum hain is pal yahaan, jaane hon kal kahaan
Next morning, ETF office was buzzing with activity again……..Riya walked to the conference table with a file in her hands….She had done some serious research and come up with a report…..All others too come to the table….Arjun first looks at Riya and finds her perfectly normal….he was in fact checking if she had any traces of the previous night's emotional turmoil she seemed to have had…..but to his relief, he found none…..but on the other hand, he was confused too…..Riya had so easily turned a new leaf altogether and seemed fine! She wasn't like this before…..Her worries often clouded her face and hiding it was never her forte……but the present Riya was a new person! What was the reason for such a drastic change in a bubbly nave girl? The possible reasons worried him no end!
As the case discussion triggered off, Arjun snapped out and focused just on the case!
Rathod glances through it while Riya starts explaining her findings….
"Sir, ek interesting baat pathaa chali hai Sir, Avantika, Beena aur Chaaya Mumbai mein ek hi film institute se hai…..ek saath acting training course complete kiya hai!
Rathod exclaims in surprise "WHAT?"
Arjun: [getting the file from him] isska matlab sab ladkiyaan ek dhoosre ko pehle se hi jaanthi hai…
Riya: haan…unka ek happening gang tha….
Shree: Gang? Iss ka matlab aur bhi ladkiyan teh???
Riya: haan…aur bhi hai….almost dus teh……
Arjun: aur baaki bhi actresses hai kya?
Riya: nahi….dho models hai….teen tv actresses…..aur ek shaadi karke settle hogayi….
Rathod: tumne dus kaha tha na???
Riya: ek ladka tha sir….usska naam Ajith hai…..usske baare mein kuch khaas details mili nahi….kahaan hai? kya kar raha hai? kuch nahi pathaa!
Arjun: Nau ladkiyon ke gang mein sirf ek ladka…..Interesting very interesting!
Rathod: aisa kya interesting mila tumme Rawte?? Kya ek gang mein nau ladkiyaan aur ek ladka nahi ho saktha??
Arjun: ho sakthe hai par thoda ajeeb zaroor hai……[revolving his pen].kahi kuch toh choot raha hai Rathod!
Rathod looks at his direction and tries to guess what he is upto…….
"Chotu, Shree….Chaaya ka kuch patha chala??"
Shree: ab tak toh nahi Sir….Woh shooting se kab aur kaise nikhli patha hi nahi chala….hum dher raath tak wahaan wait karthe rahe aur…..
Rathod: aur woh tum dono officers ko fool karke chali gayi, huh??? Itna irresponsible kaise ho sakthe ho?
Arjun scans the file and the contents intently and thinks something seriously as if something caught his!!
Arjun: Rathod, hume studio chalna chahiye…Shaayad woh abhi bhi wahi kahi ho….
Rathod: u mean chup beiti hai??
Arjun: [looking at him and speaks after a second] ya chupaakar rakhi gayi hai…….
Riya: aapka matlab…??
Rathod: [snaps out realizing Arjun's hint] come on…lets go….
They search the entire studio and find Chaaya's dead body in a sludge like pond within the studio…..The mode of murder appeared similar…a sharp object, something like a knife was the murder weapon and it was missing! So the serial killing angle was gaining prominence and the case was heading to a new dimension altogether!….
The media was all going mad over the killings…..3 murders in less than a week's time and there was no clue as to what was happening……
Body is sent to post mortem and the clues are collected from the area…….this time the kerchief was inserted into the pant pocket of Chaaya……It had "Monika" written in it….Chotu is immediately sent to get the whereabouts of this Monika who is the next target of the killer!
After the initial round of investigations, the team sat for a detailed analysis…..
Arjun: Riya, woh file dho….[once again looks through it] Yes……..Rathod, iss list ko dekho…tumhe kuch ajeeb nahi lagtha??
Rathod looks through it and nods "haan…iss sequence mein kuch naam missing hai….par.."
Arjun: shree, patha lagao ke iss online magazine ko kaun host kartha hai?? aur dekho iss ke kuch past history hai kya??
Shree: yes sir..[he gets into action]
Rathod: aur Chotu, tum iss Monica ko interrogation keliye le aavo…..pathaa tho chale ke iss group mein aisa kya hua tha??
Arjun: main uss Ajith ke background check kartha hoom….uss film institute se usska ek address milaa hai…..chalke dektha hoom…aakhir woh aaj kal kya kartha hai??
Rathod: Rawte ek minute…..Riya tum Rawte ke saath jaao…..
Arjun didn't protest or show a dislike for the first time in ETF's history about Riya accompanying for a case…..He just called out for Shree "Shree, jaise hi uss website ke baare mein kuch pathaa chale mujhe inform karna"
Shree: [looks up and nods] yes sir…..
Arjun looks at Riya and gestures to come with him…..They leave soon…..
It was almost 4 PM……..
Arjun looks at Riya who was sincerely searching for something on her tab and also typing something religiously into a report…She didn't even glance here or there for a second!
Arjun was surprised seeing her work so hard on the case….She had made marvelous discoveries and her report was just brilliant….It was due to the report that he could connect dots and link totally unrelated things……If they found a breakthrough in this maze like case, it was due to her…..And he was amazed by her responsible behavior…..She had really grown up as a officer…he thought to himself and smiled at that!
He stops the car near a shop and tells her that he will be back soon…..He comes back in a jiffy carrying a few biscuit packets and a bottle of water……
"yeh lo Riya….khaalo….mujhe pathaa hai ke tumne abhi tak lunch nahi kiya hai…."
Riya: mujhe bhook nahi hai Sir….aap khaa lijiye….
Arjun: [starts the vehicle but doesn't give up the attempt to make her eat] bhook toh sabko lagthi hai Riya…[pauses and adds]...haan yeh alag baat hai ke agar insaan ke mann pareshan ho ya kuch baat se dil baari ho toh khaana accha nahi lagtha…..iss mein kis baat se ab tumhe khaane se bhi allergy hai?? [he finished with a smirk]
Riya: [sarcastically] aapko kabse mere pareshaaniyon mein interest hone laga sir? Aap ko toh apne pareshani kisi se share karne se allergy hai na? phir mujhse kyun expect karthe ho ke main apne life ke problems aapke saath share karungi?
Arjun was dumbed at that….her reply was so stern and hit the direct point in him and he had absolutely no answers to that question…..Her curt reply hurt him but the other point that worried him more was that her question now clearly indicated that she definitely had problems in her life….
Riya: ab chup kyun hogaye aap?? Jawaab nahi hai na??? teek waise hi filhaal aapke sawaalon ka koyi jawaab nahi hai mere paas….[pauses and adds sternly] case ke baare mein kuch sawaal ho toh poochiye….warna….[she stopped midway and continued her work…]
Her incomplete subtle sentence was enough to make him realize that she didn't want his intrusion into her personal matters…he took the clue and continued driving…….and never attempted to break the silence…It hurt every bit of him when she shut him out like that but he knew that may be he deserved this……He had shut her out once and never once turned back to her direction…..It had been the worst mistake of his life…….
