CHAPTER EIGHT

He leaned again and gave a sweet peck on her lips again for the third time in a row, but this time, just to break the moment for her. And it did. Riya opened her eyes and saw Arjun watching her with a slight smirk. Her racing heart went on in a marathon again as she saw him smirk for the first time! She then went red with embarrassment and her cheeks became hot with shyness. She then unknowingly bit her lips and looked away.

After few seconds she realized that Arjun still had his hands on her waist and she was standing on HIS feet! She was clueless about it though as to when she climbed up on him!? Arjun saw her hesitant eyes and his smirk deepened. For the first time since their marriage, Arjun lost control over himself and let his heart do what it wanted, to love her, cherish her and moreover, treat her like she is HIS.

She looked away, looked everywhere but him. Arjun smiled to himself seeing her so shy and her unable-to-comprehend-anything look.

He was looking at her and soon the dying image of Roshni, the brutal murder of the poor soul, flashed in front of his mind. His mind cursed himself for showing the side he has hidden from her. Arjun pushed Riya away at once and marched out of the house without a word.

Riya looked at his retreating back and looked down guiltily; maybe he didn't like kissing me. And tears followed down making her red cheeks wet and her eyes, swollen.

Riya cried over herself being so dumb to not to know how to even kiss her own husband. Riya looked down at herself. Her not-so-tidy cloths by the whole day work yesterday, she didn't even have her bath. She sadly walked towards her room. The walk seemed so long today. She reached and sat on her couch. Tears still making their ways to her eyes and down to her face and then vanishing on her dirty cloths. She held her knees near her chest and hugged herself tightly. Why is fate so cruel to me? She has the best husband any girl could ever wish for and she is not able to fulfill her duties well. Arjun is ought to be angry with me! How am I ever going to match up with the royal prince?! She looked down dejectedly at herself and thought.

She went near the mirror and looked at herself. So ordinary I am! And he, he is so handsome! He is a prince! And I, I am no one. He is an honest and bravest police officer! And I am, nothing! He is a great human being, he takes care of the whole city! And me, I can't even take care of him alone! He is such a nice person, he gave me the permission to live here and that is not all, he even gave me his name when in reality, he never wanted to get married to me. And I, I am not able to do anything for him!

Riya then looked at her face and touched her cheeks, she looked at herself as if looking at something worth hating, he is such a charming man, millions of girls would be available for him to give him every pleasure he desires! But me, I am so ugly he didn't even liked kissing me! Why would he?! He is a PRINCE and I, I am nothing! No match! Saying so she looked angrily at herself, for being such an ordinary person with no special features, neither on her face nor in her personality. She again went to her couch and started crying again.

She sat there crying for no one knows how much time but her crying was hindered when the clock ticked loudly 9 times, telling her it to be 9 AM, that's when her heart stopped! "Oh no! He went away! Not even having his breakfast!"she said to herself, her heart forgot to even think of anything as the image of her hungry husband came in her mind.

Riya then decided to bath and dress neatly so that she could take food for him, that way she can also meet with Rathore, Shree and Chotu. Soon a small smile came to her lips when she remembered Shree telling her stories of Arjun and Rathore's usual quarrels. They are always ready to bombard each other with arguments! She remembered Shree telling her and wished he would not be angry with her too much. If he was, he won't even eat a morsel!

She quickly took bath and got ready. She looked herself in the mirror again. She was going to his office as his wife, as Riya Arjun Rawte! She should look good. What if he thinks she isn't good looking enough to let her out in the public? "NO!" said Riya aloud and changed her normal dress to wear something extra ordinary.

She then took a lovely pink top and a pair of dark blue jeans. She loved this dress. One day when she wore it, Arjun looked up and smiled! From that day, this dress was her favorite and she rarely wore it thinking that its charm will fade by wearing it daily?! He will like it! She thought to herself and wore it, adjusting the top on her shoulders and gave herself a sly smile approving her look.

Soon the food was packed in the large basket that she used to send in the ETF headquarters by amit. Amit had full access to Rathore's cabin, as Rathore knew he was Riya's secret spy. So amit would walk into the office as if he owned it and with full attitude open his cabin doors to keep the basket in it. And moreover amit had strict orders from Riya that he would not return before ensuring that everyone, everyone including Arjun, had had the food. And after returning, amit would be in all praises as to how much fun it was to take the basket inside like a superhero, without being stopped by anyone and then the praises all were in while having the food made by her. Once he told that Arjun too said that the food was delicious. Riya brimmed with happiness and packed extra chapattis for Chotu, he was a fitness freak, but when she took food for them, he would eat wholeheartedly.

As Riya was leaving, she saw amit coming for his classes.

"Riya didi, are you going somewhere?" then he saw the basket, "ohh, I am sorry I am late, let me take it." said amit as he thought Riya would have waited for him and now, she is going by herself.

"Its okay amit, I will take it by myself today. You can call it a day off." Said Riya giving him the holiday today.

"Are you trying to say you want to be alone with Arjun?" said amit as he teased Riya, and she blushed. (Amit was scared of Arjun so he calls him just by his name, no salutation, as he was too scared to call him, bhaiya. [Brother])

"Amit! Naughty boy! That is so not true!" said Riya hiding her smile that was too adamant to make its way on her face and made the situation more embarrassing for her.

"Ahan? So take me with you too." said amit and Riya had no way but to take him with her.

Riya made a face as if thinking and amit got desperate, "please didi take me with you! Or else daddy will make me watch the cars whole day!" said amit and Riya laughed at his plight. Whenever amit had a day off, his dad, the watchman would give him the duty to take notice of the cars that went inside and outside the parking lot. Amit hated it. "pleeaase!" he said giving her a smile with a recently broken tooth and Riya giggled.

"Okay." She couldn't say no to that face.

Riya held amit's hand as they walked in the big building of ETF headquarters, she gripped it nervously and amit understood.

"Don't worry Riya didi. Arjun would have gone on the crime scene, he usually comes during lunch hours." Said amit assuring her.

"How do you know that?" asked Riya surprised.

"Come on! I come here every other day! I can even walk in here with my eyes closed. "Saying so amit walked forward with his eyes closed and accidentally bumped into Rathore.

"Oops." Said both Rathore and amit at once.

Rathore looked at him and his face softened, then he looked at Riya and smiled.

"Riya! You here! Welcome." said Rathore as he moved forward to give a brotherly hug.

"Thanks, bhaiya." Said Riya as she hugged him back.

Rathore eyeing the basket, "ahh! Famous Riya food!" he then looked at her, "umm, give me a minute Riya, I would come in 5 minutes, I have to give this file to the forensic department. Amit will guide you to my cabin. Right amit?" saying so he ruffled amit's hairs and walked after getting a nod from Riya.

"Come, Riya didi." Amit said as he held her hand and pulled her to the stairs.

They climbed the stairs and Riya saw a cabin and was about to enter when amit stopped her suddenly.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" he whispered loudly.

"What?!" she immediately took away her hand.

"It is not sameer bhai's cabin! Its is Arjun's!" he said widening his eyes and Riya looked at the nameplate she missed to notice.

"ACP Arjun Rawte!" she read it out loud.

"Exactly! The lion's den!" said amit making her scared for a moment but then she hit his shoulder playfully.

"Shut up!" and then lifted her hand to knock on his door.

Amit held her hand above his head and whispered again, "what are you doing!?" his eyes widened.

"It's called, knocking!" said Riya with attitude and amit shook his head in negative.

"I know! But you are knocking on the wrong door." he told urgently looking inside by the small glass portion on the wooden door. "Its Arjun's cabin!" he warned her again.

"I know!" Riya whispered furiously as amit was not letting her in and the thought of Arjun hungry was eating her!

Arjun was reading a file in his cabin when he heard some whispers outside and walked near to hear them getting prominent.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" he looked up and went towards the door.

"What?!" he heard Riya's voice and couldn't help but keep his ear on the door to hear nicely.

"It is not sameer bhai's cabin! Its is Arjun's!" he heard amit.

"ACP Arjun Rawte!" she read it out loud his name, and Arjun felt his name sounding so new. Whenever he said it, it was normal but when she did, it sounded so - - - fancy!

"Exactly! The lion's den!" said amit and Arjun knotted his eyebrows playfully at his remark.

"Shut up!" Riya said and he smiled, she can't hear anything against me!

"What are you doing!?" he heard amit say and hid behind the wooden door. Then he slowly opened the door, both didn't notice Arjun standing and folding his hands to his chest and looking at them intently.

"It's called, knocking!" she said and Arjun looked at her intently, she can answer back?!

"I know! But you are knocking on the wrong door." amit said "Its Arjun's cabin!"

"I know!" Riya whispered back, still not noticing him.

"Ahem Ahem." He cleared his throat loudly in order to let them know his presence.

Seeing him standing just in front of him amit gasped loudly and hid behind Riya saying, "the lion" and getting frightened.

"What?" asked Arjun as he tried to look at amit but Riya hid him behind herself more.

"No-nothing. He was telling me a story. "Said Riya making an excuse.

"Why are you here, Riya?" said Arjun as if not interested in her presence around him.

Looking his disinterest Riya's eyes welled up instantly but she composed herself and barely managed to say, "I- I was- here- to give you food. After- after what happened- I – I am sorry, I – you- dint have breakfast." She said as she fumbled through words and Arjun became angry at the thought of her being out on herself! What if someone followed her! Or tried to harm her! For god's sake she is his wife! There are a lot of people trying to harm him, what if they did by harming her!!

"YOU-" he said out loud and Riya got scared. Seeing her scared face Arjun controlled his anger and asked calmly, "you came out all by yourself!? Why?!"

"You were hungry." Said Riya meekly and his heart went out to her. He wished he could tell that her life would be in grave danger if she keeps on keeping her foot out of the house!

"Riya are you insane! You came all the way here ALONE!" Arjun asked her for being so careless about herself.

Amit who saw Arjun scold her came out of her back and said, "I came with her too! She is not alone!" he said defending her.

Seeing him argue Riya held him "amit!" and nodded in negative stopping him from speaking.

"Riya, how can you be so careless! What if something happened to you! ITS DANGER OUTSIDE!" Arjun couldn't handle but speak out his heart again.

Riya's eyes widened with happiness as each and every word was covered with a lot of care from him.

"I am sorry." She then said looking down and all of his anger went in drain. Her long and thick eyelashes resting on her cheeks made his heart bleed with love and affection.

He sighed in defeat with her pure eyes, "come in." he asked her to come in but then he noticed the desk, it had various pictures of a brutal murder they were investigating. Amit was too nave to know the harsh realities of the world and Riya was too innocent to see them. Maybe even more innocent then amit!

He then quickly turned and Riya bumped into him, as she was just behind him, following. He caught her and said, "lets go to the conference room. Everyone's there."

And hurriedly took them out of the cabin. The conference room was on the 5^th floor. In the way he made a call to Shree, "Shree, make the conference room ready. I am coming with Riya." At the first sentence Shree got confused as to why he asked to make it ready? But then hearing Riya's name he knew what to do. They had to clean the pictures taken of dead bodies and anything sensitive.

Shree told Chotu and they hurriedly cleaned the glass board on which they pasted the photos of witnesses, dead bodies and the murder area.

Arjun walked near the corridor and took them to the stairs to go to the 5^th floor as he always does and said, "Come, this way."

Amit looked back as the way towards the lift was left behind and then stared open eyed at Riya hearing Arjun's remark, giving her an is-he-serious-to-take-the-stairs look and Riya looked at him like do-as-he-says and they started climbing the stairs.

They reached 3^rd floor and amit's pace to climb the stairs reduced. Riya followed Arjun hurriedly but amit was left behind by some stairs to which Arjun said, "Hurry up!"

Amit made a face and said, "Lion!" to himself, Riya smiled seeing amit walk like he had 50 kgs bag tied on his legs and he was nearly stomping his foot on the floor.

Arjun heard his remark and smirked to himself.

They reached and Arjun opened the door for Riya and looked out for amit. He was walking slowly as if pushing himself to walk and once he reached the 5^th floor, he sighed and sat on the floor tiredly.

"Don't you think you're too lazy to be a kid!" said Arjun as he saw him sitting and he quickly jumped on his feet and entered the room.

Arjun smirked and came inside too.
