Appreciation Post for Ruheen
"Khushi is it really that difficult" Arjun jumped on the sofa next to Khushi.
Khushi raised her eyebrows while chuckling. However Arjun suddenly got up and took Khushi's hand into his. He placed his other hand in his bag and pulled out a book.
He placed it into Khushi's laps.
"Oh! My god you still have this." It was a book that Khushi had given to Arjun a few years back.
"Open it" he said pointing to the book.
Khushi opened the book and the expressions on her face changed.
"Arjun" she said in a confused tone. "I can't"
"Why not Khushi" he replied. He grabbed the ring from the book and bent down on his knee.
"I love you Khushi, I always have."
Khushi pulled back her hand and turned to face away from Arjun only to realize who standing at the door was.
"Arnav"
"I am sorry" said Arnav turning around. He hurried up the stairs and into his room. Banging the door shut.
He tightened his fist, but suddenly released it as a thought ran through his mind.
"What if Arjun was the better man for Khushi, What if Arnav was putting her life at risk by getting close to her. He had nothing but pain to offer to both of them''''''"
Khushi continued to bang on the door. Pleading for him to open
"Please Arnav open the door, it's not what you think. Please."
Arnav stood with his hand firmed on the door knob continuously tightening his grip to resist the urge to open the door and hug his Khushi. "Please leave Khushi" he wished in his heart.
Suddenly the banging on the door stopped followed by a large thud made by the contact of her body to the floor.
Arnav immediately flung open the door to find her lifeless body on the floor. He grabbed her ice cold hands and began to rub her pale palms. "Khushi please wake up". He placed his head on her bosom to hear a faint heartbeat. Her rosy cheeks had lost their color and so had her lush lips become blue.
He immediately picked her up and rushed her towards the door not moving his gaze off her face for a second.
The night grew into morning; the doctors had informed Khushi's parents who were arriving on the next flight.
Khushi's condition had severely deterioted her entire body had begun to fail. Her blood pressure continued to fell during the night.
Arnav had spent the entire night sitting next to Khushi. He felt responsible for her condition. There was not a single doubt in his mind that he madly and irrevocably loved her. He also knew for a fact that he won't let anything happen to her.
The footsteps of the doctors huddling into the room hurled him back to reality.
He knew what they had to do. He knew that this was the last time he will ever see her. He hovered over her head and placed a gentle yet longing kiss on her forehead as a lone tear finally evaded his eyes.
"I am sorry Khushi" he said breaking the contact between their skin.
Days grew into weeks as Khushi's parents waited for her to open her eyes. Her transplant was a success but the procedure had taken its toll on her already fragile condition. No one was allowed to meet her as her immune system had severely been compromised. It was after an entire month that she was finally allowed a visitor.
It was Khushi's parents dressed in sterile gloves who walked into the room holding each other's hand.
As her mother, Tina walked in she felt she would collapse to the floor seeing the state of her daughter but her husband held her by the shoulders. She was swathed in intravenous lines. Her eye socket had become deep and shadowed. Her mother placed her hand on her head caressing her hair. After few minutes Khushi lifted her eyelids. Their mother could no longer hold it in and she slumped on the floor next to the bed.
"Mera Baccha..." she began to weep.
"I am ok mom" Khushi spoke in a parched slow tone.
Her eyes began to search the room.
"How is Arnav?" she interrogated
Her mother wiped her tears and looked towards her father. Her father immediately jumped realizing Tina's confusion.
"He is alright dear. We all just want you to recover and come home."
"Where is he?" she pushed further unsatisfied with her father's response. "Can I see him?"
"Baby off course you can but the doctor's have advises that you are not allowed visitors until you feel better."
Another month passed by and it was finally time for her to return home. She stood by the door anticipating to finally meet Arnav. She wanted to see him and clarify that she did not love Arjun, it was him she loved.
She was sure he would come to pick her up. However it was her dad that came. She didn't question him much and was assured that he must be at home. Joy filled her eyes as the car pulled up in their driveway. She immediately flung open the door and rushed inside the house where her mother stood. But she looked around for Arnav not finding him in site she rushed up the stairs as her parents hurried after her in concern, "Baby please be careful"
She ran up to his room and pushed open the door taking in the draft that carried the smell of his cologne. But all she found was emptiness, Arnav was nowhere in sight. She stepped inside to see that his luggage was no longer there. She turned around to face her parents
"Where is he?" she demanded feeling a bulge in her throat.
"Baby come sit we will talk about this" her mother tried to reason with her moving towards her.
"WHERE IS HE MOM?" Khushi erupted in anger as tears flooded her face.
She fell to her knees at the same spot where she had passed out two months ago.
"He is gone Khushi" her father finally broke the silence
