Arjun Malik and Arnav Singh Raizada are cousins.

Arjun's father Mr. Arun Malik and Arnav's father Mr. Amar Malik were brothers.

Mr. Amar was the eldest and Mr. Arun the youngest. In between they had a sister called Vasundhara who was married in the Raizada household. Mr. Amar Malik was married to Avantika Raizada.

Later Arun married Jyoti Maheswari, daughter of a diamond merchant.

And few years later Arjun and Arnav took birth. They were almost the same age. Arnav was elder to Arjun by few months.

Everything was well and fine and these two brothers and their sons were attached to each other in all aspects until a fateful day came.

Amar and Arun often went to Delhi by road. This time also they went. Arun was on the driving seat unlike Amar this time and luck was not good this time. Both of them died. Amar was spot dead in the car accident but Arun was alive though severely injured, on the way to hospital he expired.

The police later informed that the car had over speeded and hit the truck leading to a fatal accident. Since it was Arun who drove the car, all the blame was his. Due to his rash driving he killed himself and his brother.

This was just the start. Things worsen after their fathers' funeral rituals. Very naturally Arnav blamed his Arun uncle. But Arjun couldn't take it and he picked up a fruit knife and attacked Arnav. None was hurt because of their widow mothers' intervention. Since that day all happiness were gone. During their college days they even fought over the same girl and they were in verge of killing each other. Finally both of their mothers' decided to keep their sons away from each other. Later when they will mature they might be less aggressive and they planned something in hope to unite them. Their mothers were not wrong completely.

The mothers planned to keep them away. Since Arnav was the one from whom everything instigated, it was decided to keep Arnav away from the household. Arnav was adopted by his aunt(bua) Vasundhara Raizada and he started living in the Raizada Mansion. Arjun remained with his mother and aunt. Arnav was called back in Sheesh Mahal (the place where Maliks live) on his 23rd birthday. Their mothers' after celebrating his birthday gave him a piece of news which was like falling of an atom bomb was better. Arjun too reacted. Both were business partners and shareholders of their fathers' company. Till date these women had taken the responsibility and now they want to give to them. Both of them had an equal half.

They were bound to follow because of a certain clause. If they are not interested to continue the business with each other and to terminate, cease or change their hold on shares or/and partnership they have to sell the Sheesh Mahal first and they can divide the entire property then. But, to sell the Sheesh Mahal, both of them need their wife's consent. This last line made both the men furious. Both of them didn't believe in marriages or commitments.

So breaking the professional bond was not possible for them until they get married. And moreover their weakest point was same. Sheesh Mahal. None of them would sell it off under any circumstances.
