Chapter 3

He was on his way down to the study and all of a sudden he felt a light breeze coming in, it felt nice and refreshing, he walked into the study and there she was standing, the girl in a green salwar she looked beautiful, he had never seen anything like her, her beauty was divine there was something about her that attracted him towards her,

As he walked in her innocent eyes followed his footsteps, and rested when he sat down on the chair opposite to him, her heart thumped in a rhythm, that was audible only to her, what was this rhythm, and why was her heart thumping when she saw him, there was a short moment of silence which soon broke when arnav asked

Arnav: so u are khushi

Khushi: yes sir, I am khushi kumari gupta and I am here because I want to talk to you about the land u have bought in laxmi nagar

Arnav: oh I see, and what about it

Khushi: well u see sir, the land belongs to us, we have a house there, and we have been staying there for years now, if u brake the house and make a factory then me and my family will have no place to go

Arnav: and that's my problem because (he said rudely)

Khushi: (took a deep breath and remained calm and then said) sir please try 2 understand please we have been staying there our whole lives, where will we go

Arnav: there are lots of places in delhi find yourself a new house whats the big deal, u have 12 days in hand I am sure u will find a place to stay

Khushi: its not the question of finding a place to stay its about not wanting to move, we are connected to the house,

Arnav: (raised his eye brow and said sarcastically) I am sorry I don't follow

Khushi: look I don't expect u to understand why we don't want to move, all I am trying to tell u is that build ur factory else where

Arnav: that's our of the question, why should compromise I have bought the land from the owner and he had no qualms with it,

Khushi: that shukla didn't ask us before selling the land (she said firmly)

Arnav: (raised his voice) that's not my problem this is between u and him, I have given u 12 days to evacuate the place

Khsuhi: why can't u understand , u rich people think u own the whole world and can do anything u want how can u be so heartless (she screamed)

Arnav: listen khushi kumara gupta I don't care what u think, by u screaming and shouting things aren't going 2 changes so just deal with it

Khushi was about to tell him off when they heard a knock on the door, aarti came inside and ran to arnav, she was wearing a pink ballet costume and was looking sad, as she walked to him she said in a baby voice

Aarti: mama I hurt my finger (she said crying and showed her finger to arnav)

Arnav who was in a foul mood had no patients to deal with her and yelled

Arnav: (shouting) CAN U NOT SEE THAT I AM WORKING WHAT IS WRONG WITH U !!!!

Little aarti started to cry more seeing her mama's angry face, khushi who was standing there, yelled back at him

Khushi: how can u be so stone cold, and shout at such a cute child (she screamed, then she called aarti towards her and knelt down and said) is your finger hurting sweaty

Aarti looked confused at her ad scared, she was just crying away

Khushi hugged her by giving her love, aarti kept quiet and then khushi said

Khushi: hi my name is khushi whats your name

Aarti: (sobbed while talking) my' name is aarti

Khushi: wow that's a pretty name, so aarti why are u crying

Aarti was about to answer when she saw her nani and parnani on the door, they came in and asked in a worried tone

Ratna: what's going on chottey

Arnav: ma how many times have I told these children not to disturb me while I am working?

Nani: she is just a child chottey

Khushi who wasn't bothered of what was happening concentrated on the child and then said

Khushi: this is just a small hurt, no need to cry u can put a bandage on it and it will disappear (she said lovingly)

Aarti: it will go like magic (she said in a fascinated tone)

Arnav who was watching all this said in anger

Arnav: what the hell do u think you're doing

Khushi: cant u see, the poor girl is crying, I am trying to cheer her up

Arnav: that's not your' (he was interrupted by his mother who put her hand out to stop him)

Arnav ratna and nani watched as khushi spoke to aarti and calmed her down, both nani and ratna were impressed by it, ratna was happy to see aarti open up to her easily and an idea popped in her mind, and she took nani and arnav on the side of the room and then said

Ratna: amma this girl is very nice

Nani: yes I agree she is look at how she is taking care of aarti

Arnav: she is putting a bandage on her finger whats the big deal (he said stating the fact)

Nani: chottey did u not see how she took her in lovingly did u not see how she made aarti stop crying

Ratna: amma I have an idea, why don't we hire this girl to take care of the children, I think she is a nice girl and she looks traditional as well, she will take good care of them

Arnav: (shocked) What the!!

Nani: I think that's a great idea, ratna betiya is right

Arnav: no way, nani ma no way, she cannot take care of the children

Ratna: why chottey look at her, she I perfect she will love them and take care of them

Arnav: but ma we don't even know anything about her

Ratna: chottey what is there to know she seems like a simple girl

Arnav: but still I don't trust her

Ratna: chottey please for my sake let the girl come and take care of the children, she can come for a few hours everyday

Nani: chottey think of it the children will not trouble u and will stay out of your hair

Arnav took a deep breath and thought, nani did have a point they would not bother him the whole day or may be forever its perfect, but why should she come only for a few hours she should live her full time ,as their governess, its perfect it's the best way to have the kids out of the way, he decided to also do a back ground check as well for safety sake, he wouldn't trust her just like that and so he said

Arnav: fine may be you are right she is good for the kids, but why should she come here for a few hours she should stay here full time,

Nani: full time but chottey don't u think she will say no, a single girl like this is our house

Arnav: oh please nani she is not a guest she is getting paid to stay here, she can live here like their governess

Ratna: ok chottey let her stay here like a governors

Arnav nodded and then went to khushi who was with aarti and then said

Arnav: I want to hire u

Khushi looked up confused and said

Khushi: for what

Arnav: your good with kids, I want to hire u to take care of the kids in my house, there are 3 of them and they need a governess, I am willing to pay u thirty thousand for it

Khushi: (looked at him and said) what are the timings?

Arnav: its full time, u will stay here in our house and take care of them

Khushi: (shocked) no way, I won't I can't, my buaji won't allow me

Ratna: that's ok betiya can u come for a few hours

Khushi: auntyji actually I have to ask my buaji,

Arnav: no u have to stay here and take care of them

Khushi: how can u just force me like this u don't own me

Arnav: ur right I don't, but I own the land, (he said smirking)

Khushi: (scrunched her eyes and said) what re u trying 2 imply

Arnav: I will make a deal with u, stay back here and take care of the children and in return I won't brake ur house ur family can stay on the land

Khushi was in a big fix they desperately needed the place to stay and if he was agreeing to let them stay then that's just good, but then on the other hand staying with them will buaji allow her to do that, the salary she was getting was good, thirty thousand rupees was a lot of money and in so much money she could contribute to the family income so she took a deep breath and said

Khushi: fine I will agree, but my family stays

Arnav: I assure u of that, they can stay in the house as so long as u are here

Khushi nodded and said

Khushi: but I need to go back home and inform my parents and pick my clothes,

Arnav: fine (saying this he left the study)

Aarti: (in a cute voice) khushi didi are u going 2 be staying with us

Khushi: (smiled and then said) yes I am,

Aarti: (excited) I will show u my room

Khushi: yes sweaty off course, in some time I will see ur room, but now I have to go home to tell my buaji

Ratna: khushi betiya can I come with u, I understand ur buaji will not allow u so may be if I come and talk to her she will listen

Khushi: thank u auntyji for understanding

Ratna smiled at her and then she and khushi left to go to laxmi nagar

Chapter 4

They reached Laxmi Nagar, Buaji was sitting at the door with her head on her hand looking depressed when she saw a big car pull over she was confused, she saw khushi come out of it with a woman around garima's age she got up and said

Buaji: hai re nand Kishore sanka devi what are u doing and who is this??

Khushi came ad stood next to buaji and ratna came and folded her hands and then said Namaste buaji responded back and then said

Buaji: who are u ??

Ratna: I am ratna arnav's mother, can I speak to u for a second

Buaji: yes please do come in

They went in, buaji called garima and shashi and payal out, and then khushi brought the tea and some water for ratna and buaji said

Buaji: (folded her hands and said) please don't brake this house we have lived here for a long time, my husband has put in all his hard work and made this a house and it is his last mark before he died

Ratna: (said in a loving tone) please I understand your daughter has explained to me about it, I am here because I have a favor to ask of u

Shashi: yes please tell us

Ratna: my son has made a deal with ur daughter

Garima: (looked and khushi and said) what deal

Ratna: she has agreed to come and stay in our house and my son has told her in return he will not break the house

Every one was shocked and Buaji said

Buaji: stay in your house but why what's happening khushi??

Khushi: buaji don't get angry please listen to us, they have 3 children and in their house and they want me to come and take care of them he has agreed to pay me a sum of 30,000

Buaji: hai re nand Kishore its ok you can go and take care of them but how can u stay in their house, we can not allow that (she looked at ratna and then said) sorry we cannot accept this offer we are small people and a single girl like this staying in some one's house is not the values we teach our children

Garima: yes jiji u are right we cannot do this an alone girl staying like this in an unknown house (she said worriedly)

Ratna: Please try to understand my son says that this will be good for the children, they are my daughters children, she died due to cancer and they are a bit depressed they need some one to take care of them, they need some one to remove them out of this depression, I saw your daughter and I like her values and she traditional and loving ways, the youngest child aarti really is fond of her and they just met, please it's a request

Buaji: I understand, our sanka devi loves children but'.

Ratna: I promise I will personally make sure nothing will happen, I promise she is purely staying only for the children, and she is at our house she will be treated like family u have my word, please see if u don't agree then my son will brake your house

Buaji: (looked confused but then she said) sanka devi why did you do this , u should have asked me

Khushi: buaji I had no time please try 2 understand with this salary we can run the house and also our house wont brake we can stay here for ever

Garima: but are u going to be ok staying so far u have never done that before

Khushi: (put her hand on her amma's and then said) I know but I promise I will be fine

Shashi: I think u should go

They all turned to shashi who was silent for a while and then shashi broke it by saying

Shashi: jiji garima let her go, its not for the money its for the good cause she is going for, our child is getting a chance to perform a good deed in life then why should we stop her

Garima: but ji how can we just send her

Payal: (came and put her hand on her shoulder and then said) our khushi can take care of herself I know it she is a good girl and smart too, amma babuji is right we should let her go

Buaji heard what payal said and nodded as well and then garima reluctantly nodded, Khushi smiled and hugged buaji happily and went o pack her clothes while payal followed her, ratna smiled and then buaji said

Buaji: she is our sanka devi she is a little mad, but she is nice at heart, she is our daughter and we love her a lot, please make sure she is taken care off, I am only allowing her because of your word

Ratna: don't worry I understand I know what its like , ur daughter is safe

She said bye to everyone they had an emotional moment payal hugged her sister, and rantna told them that when ever they like they can come and visist, buaji made a deal with ratna that payal will come and visit her every weekend in the evening, ratna was more than happy, finally saying her last good bye's she left

As they entered Rm, Khushi was introduced to everyone in the house, she bowed down to nani and touched her feet and then said nameste to mamiji, who was not so happy and a bit arrogant but khushi didn't mind, she said hello to akash and then an excited aarti came down and was jumping around she said

Aarti: ur back your back, yeah, come in (she dragged khushi)

Khushi came in and ratna said

Ratna: aarti btiya let her come in at least

Aarti: yes nani off coarse let her, and I will show her my room first

Ratna and khushi smiled, as aarti took her to her, room, after seeing aarti's room, she called the other 2 children anika and anuj to meet khushi, the two children walked in and ratna said

Ratna: anika and anuj, this is khushi your governess

Annika looked up at her and then said to her nani

Annika: great so now instead of mama we are going to be taken care by her (she said sulking)

Anuj: do u have a boy friend (he asked playfully)

Ratna: please children give her a chance she is a nice girl she..

Khushi stopped her and then said

Khushi: i am not here to do ur mama's job, he is your mama and he love u three a lot, I am here because your nani told me to come she said that u three are very nice and I want to be your friend, (she told Annika, then she looked at anuj and said playfully) no sweetie I don't have a boy friend,

Aarti jumped and anuj smiled he excepted her to get angry but she seemed ok, Annika the oldest just looked at her sulking, ratna was impressed already,

Chapter 5

Ratna: please come I will show u your room

Khushi followed, as she walked into a huge room which was next to the children's rooms, she looked around the walls were painted purple and it had a huge bed and a cupboard, with an attached bathroom and then ratna asked

Ratna: I hoe it is big enough for u

Khushi: (in shock) big enough, auntiji this is huge, are sure its ok I stay here

Ratna: (laughed and then said) yes its absolutely fine, by the way, I know the children can be rude but they are very nice at heart especially Annika she is a gem, it just she has off late gone into a shell because of the death of her mother ,anuj too is nice he is a prankster but he is very nice and aarti I think is fond of u

Khushi: don't worry auntyji I understand, I too lost my parents when I was young, my amma and babuji adopted me and my buaji takes god care of me, they just need love and they will be fine, I promise

Ratna: I never knew u were adopted and they aren't your real parents (she said in a shock)

Khushi: (sad) yes I am adopted my parents died in a car crash and that's why my mausi adopted me, and took care of me, I am so thankful to devi maya that they took me in and took such good care of me

Ratna smiled and hugged her khushi was taken by surprise

Ratna: khushi don't feel alone, I know this environment is new for you but know this I will be there to guide you like your mother

Khushi: thank u so much aunty for the love

Ratna smiled at her, then she left khushi to do her unpacking, meanwhile arnav was sitting inside his room and was working on his laptop as usual, he was so busy with his work, khushi had just finished unpacking, she thought it would be wise for her to inform that khadoos arnav that she had come, so she went to his room and knocked on the door, he looked up and she said

Khushi: can I come in please?

Arnav nodded and she came in

Khushi: I have come and I will start with my work rom today I just wanted to inform u about it

Arnav: ok, have u met the children

Khushi: yes aunty just introduced me

Arnav: ok so then from now on these brats are in your care, make sure they go to school on time and come home on time, and then they need to go for some extra classes, from now on the yare your responsibility, and unless it is something important do not disturb me

Khushi: arnavji I will take care of tem don't worry

Arnav: ok, and remember only call me if its something important

She nodded and then went away to the children who were sitting in the room with sullen faces she walked in and said

Khushi: hello children what are u doing

Aarti: I am playing with my doll khushi didi (she said playfully)

Khushi kneeled down and smiled

Khushi: wow aarti, that is a pretty doll, u know when I was little I had a doll she was not as pretty as this but she was my favourite

Aarti: wow didi, that's nice

Anuj came bouncing with his ball while he dribbled it and spoke to her and said

Anuj: so khushi didi u are going to stay here with us

Khsuhi: yes I am, and I am going to take care of u all

Anuj was dribbling the ball and suddenly he screamed

Anuj: didi catch (and he threw the ball back at her)

Khushi was lost with the sudden throw but she managed to catch it, and then anuj said

Anuj: not bad didi and Aarti laughed,

Meanwhile anika was on her phone when khushi came and sat next to her and then she said

Khsuhi: hi Annika what are u doing

Annika: look I know you're here to take care of us, but its best u stay away from me I wont come in your way and you don't come in mine (she got up and walked off)

And then anuj said

Anuj: Annika didi you're just upset that you cant go to the party in school and that guy thinks your ugly (he said teasingly)

Annika: (shouted back) shut up anuj, how many times have I told u to stay out of my diary

Khushi: stop fighting, anuj don't talk to your sister like that, and Annika what ball and why aren't u going

Anika: I am not going cuz of arnav mama, who refuses to let me go, ugh that man is so annoying, and besides even if he allows I have nothing to wear its so last minute

Anuj: (teasingly) and ur not pretty

Khushi: anuj don't say that

Aart: (while combing her dolls hair) ya didi is pretty

Aanika: its no use he wont allow me to go

She went out sulking, khushi got up and followed her but as she came outside annika's room she saw it was locked, so she decided to go to arnav again

As she walked in she saw him on the phone, she knocked on the door and came in

Arnav: your back so early, I thought u could handle it, please don't tell me your quitting (he said in a rude voice)

Khushi: oh no arnavji I am here to stay don't worry, I will manage, right now I am here for something else, why aren't you allowing Annika to go to her school party

Arnav: what the

Khushi: what the, that's what u have to say

Arnav: (looking at his file) that's none of your concern (he shouted back)

Khushi: (screamed) arnavji everything as far as the children are concerned is my problem, Annika is very angry that u are not letting her go,

Arnav: listen, its been barely a day u are here, so stop it, if she doesn't go its not the end of the world

Khushi: I take my job very seriously, she isn't happy with this and it is my job to make sure that she is fine, and what is your problem why aren't u letting her go

Arnav: because she is too young to be going to such parties and its ending late at night

Khushi: honestly arnavji the party is inside school her teachers and friends will be around how more safe will it be, and if u are worried about it being late then fine I will assure you that she will be home soon, I will personally bring her back at 11 pm

Arnav: (looked at her and then said) fine khushi kumari gupta if u are personally going to bring her back then she can go but remember if she is even 1 minute late ur head is on the line I am a man of my word

Khushi: and I am a woman of my word she will be fine I promise (she said confidently)
