Chapter 11She felt much better staying away from home, from him and immensing herself in work, keeping away from the problems.
No she wasn't avoiding it, was only in need of a break.
Khushi finished off filling in the data which could have easily been done on Monday and gathered her things and herself.
She had to go back eventually and her tummy growled with hunger, as her brain yelled at her for declining the dinner. She had to at that time.
~~~
She entered the apartment smelling food and immediately her mouth started watering. She walked straight to the kitchen to see Arnav pouring something from the pot.
His apology, self accusation for the kiss, asking for lunch or dinner and upon declining, he cooked at home...wonder from scratch or box...shut up, this what I was talking about. He is a confused nut case who confuses everyone around him as well. What the hell was this, thoughts started forming in her head.
"Don't think, just don't think, blank your mind Khushi" she muttered to herself.
"Hey" she took cautious steps into the kitchen.
"Oh hey! You're home" he smiled at her as he took plates out of the cupboard.
"Yeah just now. Umm what are you doing?"
"Getting dinner ready. You said you will be tired to go out so I thought why not at home" his smile grew wider.
Khushi didn't like his smile. So far he never smiled so brightly, ever.
Why was he so happy.
"Oh that's nice of you but you shouldn't have."
"Yeah I know, but I wanted to cook for us tonight so I did."
"Ah okay. What did you make?" she bent slightly sideways to take a peek, her expression not believing what he just said.
"Spicy Thai crab soup and Coconut curried shrimp" he said with great confidence.
What the heck, now that couldn't be from box...
"No its not, I cooked it all from scratch" he answered her thoughts.
Okay this seriously is not good.
"You don't need to worry, I promise its good. You will love it" he chuckled.
Khushi looked at him surprised, how was he reading her thoughts.
"Your face Khushi, it has your thoughts written all over it" he pointed a knife at her and then continued to cut slices of a long french break.
She tried to make her expression neutral but couldn't.
"Why don't you keep your things down and come sit. I will have everything up in a minute" he said while garnishing the soup.
Not knowing what to make of this, she did what he asked her to do.
He followed her at the table with the bowls of soup and placed one in front of her and the sat down with the other before him.
He stared at her expectantly, waiting for her to taste it. When she didn't, he nudged the spoon, telling her to take a sip.
He picked up the spoon, took some liquid and brought it up to her lips "Khushi drink it, I am sure you will like it."
Realizing he was feeding her, Khushi grabbed hold of the spoon and fed herself.
Again, she was surprised.
"I told you didn't, I?" he grinned cockily at her.
She couldn't help returning the grin "its delicious!"
Soon forgetting the boundaries she had promised herself to keep, she chattered away without a pause.
She got up and told him she would take care of the clean up, as it would only be fair.
"Oh there is no dessert by the way. I am not really fond of sweet and never bothered to try anything at home."
She laughed "that's fine."
"Where did you learn to cook so good anyways?" she asked him with curiosity.
"Here. I like to do things for myself, by myself and this is the only place I can. I would never get a chance at home, prolly once or twice so far I requested di to let me cook. I am quite spoilt you see."
They made their way into the living area and lay on the sofa stuffed and drowsy.
"You have a sister" she stated.
"Mhmm, she is two years older than me and more of a mother than sister" he affectionately chuckled.
"Brothers?"
"Nope its just us two. I have a cousin though who lives with us."
"Pare-"
"Dead."
"They passed away when i was 15. We have been staying with nani and mamaji since then."
"I am sorry"
She sat up and saw his cold face.
Before she could ask more or console him for the loss, asked her about her family.
Khushi for the next twenty minutes happily told everything about her mom, dad and sister.
He stared at her expressing her love for each of them, sadness hidden in her eyes behind the cheery smile she had on.
Sitting up, he caught her hand and pulled her to him.
"Khushi I am really sorry. I know hurt you and I swear it was unintentionally" he whispered on her face intently.
"Its alright Arnav, whatever happened is over now. Its all fine" she said smiling, but the pain was still there inside.
"No whatever happened is not over Khushi. I don't know why I said that...I was so just so m-m...at you with K-ka...I like you Khushi" he finished.
"Huh?" something was wrong with her senses today.
"I-I know we don't know each other so well but the short span we have spent together has been one of my hard and happy times" he explained further.
She stared at him with her mouth forming an O.
He moved closer and in a deep husky voice said, "and I know somewhere you like me too."
"A-arnav, I uh I am n.."
"Don't deny it Khushi, I think we both spoke volumes when we..."
She pulled away from him "I umm gotta wake up early tomorrow, need to get sleep" she made up a crappy excuse, her voice crackling and ran to her room.
Arnav figured, she was still hurt. No way was she going to easily give in to him or put in her foot for any kind of relationship anytime soon.
He had to take it real slow if he wanted anything at all to happen with her.
He didn't know how or when but he was sure he would have her.
