4.Are We Back ??

Siddhant had been to her room for like ten times since morning, but she wouldn't wake up. Riddhima had a very hectic week and today, being a Sunday she decided to sleep and rest. Siddhant was apparently getting bored. He sat near the TV and started surfing channels. The door bell rang, Siddhant lazily got up and dragged himself towards the door.

He opened the door and was surprised to see the guest, rather guests. They were Riddhima 's friends from that day. He wasn't really sure what to do. He just invited them in. Siddhant was not a very extrovert person. He usually remained to himself. He just said a quick "Hye!" and shaked hands with Armaan and Rahul. He made them sit on the couch, he was about to turn the Tv off, "Ahh, just leave it as it is. This is my favourite movie." Muskaan said. "Wow!! Riddhima ki bhi.." Sid said. "I knoww." Muskaan added. After an awkaward exchange of glances, Siddhant went inside the kitchen to get them juices and some snacks.

Meanwhile, the three of them talked in whispers. "Does he live here?" Rahul asked. "I think so." Armaan just blankly replied. He did not like the idea. Even though Sid appeared to be a sensible guy, Armaan couldn't come to terms with him being soo close to her. "Where the hell is Riddhima." Muskaan asked a little louder. Hearing her voice, Siddhant came running with the trays. "Careful" Armaan offered to help. "Thanks buddy !!" Sid had liked Armaan from the first time they met. "Uhhmm, Riddhima is still sleeping. This week was quite hectic. I have been to her room a lot of times. Madam, uth hi nahi rahi hai.." he said. Armaan just liked the "her room " part.

"Its okay, may be we should come some other time" Armaan got up. "Noo, not at all. Just wait, i will get her. She has to come. You guys have come here to meet her. How can you goo?" Sid immediately climbed up the stairs. "Armaan, even though i feel really sad that Riddhima didn't tell us about uncle..I am here. I hope this doesn't get messed up." Rahul said. "I know, It is heart breaking to know that he is no more. I remember, idhar beth ke hi, he used to guide us with our maths problem. He was just like a father figure to all of us. I sooo miss him." Muskaan shed a little tear. "I know guys. Riddhima ke baare me socho. She was soo close to him and aunty?" Armaan said. "She must have shattered. Woh uncle ke bina ek second nahi reh pati thi." Muskaan said. "Riddhima ne hum sab ko apne aap se itna door kar lia.." Rahul said.

Riddhima was shocked when Siddhant told her about the three of them. She knew why were they here. It was difficult to not let your emotions over power you when the people in question are soo close to you. She decided to not act or pretend. If, they can forget the past and come all the way here to just make sure she is fine, even she has to give herself and them a chance. She immediately freshened up and ran downstairs.

Muskaan got up and embraced her in a warm hug, followed by Rahul. Armaan just remained sitting and stared at the Tee she was wearing. Riddhima was taken aback by the sudden affection. She saw Armaan staring at her and remembered how the Tee she wore was a gift he had given her. She wore the tee practically everyday.Armaan looked around the house. He realized how nothing had changed . The entire house was just the same. Coming, to think of it..Riddhima was also just the same. Then why was she soo cold? "Wrong, she isn't cold today." he wondered. He could see the warmth in her eyes. The more he thought, the more confusing things got.

Riddhima just signalled everybody to sit and sat opposite Armaan. "Hye Riddhima!!" he said. She just smiled back. Siddhant came in and offered the snacks to each one of them. Armaan every now and then glanced at Riddhima and vice versa. No body spoke a single word. Siddhant got up to give the friends some privacy. Riddhima just stopped him.

"Riddhima, Woh uncle ke bare me pata chala" Rahul initiated the conversation. Riddhima stiffened up. "Kya hua tha?" Muskaan asked. Muskaan came forward to hold her hand. Riddhima was amazed at the kind of love these guys had for her even after so much had happen. She held on to Muskaan and sniffed a bit. "Papa ko cancer tha. Lung cancer." Riddhima whispered in a barely audible voice. Siddhant repeated..."Lung cancer." Armaan just closed his eyes. "Aunty kaisi hai?" Armaan asked. Armaan was very close to Riddhima 's mother."She is fine. Unhe pata tha ki he has to go forever. She had mentally prepared her self for everything." she said. "tumhe nahi pata tha?" Armaan further asked. "Nahi, mujhe bus last ke five months me pta chala." she replied. "Riddhima, how have you been coping up with all this?"Muskaan asked. Muskaan exactly knew how Riddhima was. She couldn't take such a news so easily. "Just coping.." she replied. Riddhima all this while didn't raise her eyes even once. She was staring at the ground looking at nothing in particular. She still trembled ,just remembering the time when she got to know about her father's condition.

"Tumhe bataya kyun nahi?" Rahul asked. All eyes were now glued to Riddhima. Even Siddhant didn't know the reason. "Mene mauka hi nahi diaa."she said and immediately changed the topic.."Woh.. mummy kal a rahi hai. She would love to meet all of you.". Siddhant was hoping for this response. He knew she wouldn't tell any body the reason. Armaan, Rahul and Muskaan were puzzled, but didn't probe her further. "Even we would. Its been so long." Armaan said. "Riddhima tum kahaan thi itne saal?" Rahul asked. "Tune mujhe bhi nahi bataya. Maine kahaan kahaan nahi dhunda tujhe. Next day uncle aunty bhi Shimla shift ho gaye. koi contact nahi..."Muskaan said.

"Guys, I appreciate ki tum sab bhula ke yahan aye. Obviously, Papa ke baare me sun ke tumhe mere lie bura laga hoga . I am very sorry for ditching each one of you, especially Armaan at the most important moments of your lives but me tumhare kissi bhi question ka answer nahi de sakti." Riddhima said and lowered her eyes. "Kya kaha tumne?" Muskaan asked. "Muskaan, its not important ki me har baat ka answer karuu" Riddhima said. "Tumhe lagta hai ki hume tumhare lie bura laga. Tumhare papa the woh?" Muskaan said. "Hum yahaan, aaj tumhare papa ke bare me nahi puchne aye. Hum Mr Shashank Gupta ke bare me puchne aye hai. Jo humari life me ek father figure the. We owe him a lot. He has always guided us through all the rough patches." Rahul said. "Mera woh matlab nahi tha" Riddhima said. "Tumhara yehi matlab tha.Riddhima its not easy for us to break off ties with special people so easy. Hum tumhari tarah nahi hai.We respect and love him just the same. tumh chalii gayi. Hum yahi the. Tumne sab relations khatam kare, humne nahi" Muskaan was glad, she could speak all this soo easily. She was crying by now. "Muskaan, Riddhima ka yeh matlab nahi tha. woh hume nahi batana cha rahi, koi reason hoga." Armaan said.

"Armaan.."Muskaan was shocked. "Tu aaj bhi iski side le raha hai. Isne sabse zyada hurt tujhe kiya hai. Hum sab jante the, yeh bhi janti thi ki tu uss din isse kya bolne wala tha. Tab bhi tu keh rha tha ki koi reason hoga. Aaj bhi tu keh rha he koi reason hai. Kya reason ho sakta hai ki Riddhima hum sab ko chod k chali jae." Rahul said. "Ab wapis ayi hai toh aise behave kar rahi hai jaise hum kuch hai hi nahi. Riddhima tune ek baar bhi nahi socha, hum kaise rahenge tere bina. We have practically lived together for more than a decade. Its not easy to forget all of those moments." Muskaan added.

Siddanth was taken a back by everything he heard. Riddhima mentioned how they were all so close, he didn't know this close. He didn't know how Riddhima had 'ditched' them. He was surprised by what Rahul said. Were Armaan and Riddhima romantically involved? All the questions were bugging him. He knew he wouldn't get the answers soo easily. He remained quite.

Riddhima was bewildered. All these years, she kept on thinking about her miseries. How life was soo cruel to her. She knew what she left behind and how it would affect her best friends. Not even once, she thought that it would be soo worse. She soo wished to turn back time and rectify all the mistakes she had done three years ago. One single decision had changed soo much. She was crying, hysterically by now. She just fell down on the floor on her knees.

"Does it hurt? Bura lag rha hai?" Muskaan asked her. "hume bhi itna hi bura laga tha. Hum chaar ghante wait karte rahe teri. Tera phone dial kar kar ke pagal ho gyae. Landline bhi nahi uthaya kisi ne. Uncle aunty ne kaha, unhe nahi pata tu kaha hai. Next day woh bhi chale gaye." Armaan spoke. For the first time, he vent out his feelings. "It was soo painful to just keep checking the phone every other second. Waiting for your call." he further added. Rahul just held him by his shoulder.

"Riddhima, I am not upset at you over anything. Like, i said. I am sure there must be something grave. But its a pity to know that we couldn't be a part of it. Its okay, tum nahi batana chahti..completely fine. But kabhi na kabhi, i would like to hear your side of the story." Armaan said. Armaan's statement was just like a silver lining Riddhima was looking out for.

"Muskaan, Rahul , Armaan, Siddhanth" she adressed everybody. "I know, all of you have a lot of questions. I have done a lot of things unreasonable. I have not been the friend you guys were to me. But trust me, it was not easy. I wish i could just go back to time and rectify my mistakes..i can not. But look at me, How much have I lost, i can't even complain. I am soo sorry for hurting you people.I wish me tumhe bta pati kii kya hua, kyu hua. But it is all soo messed up. It was very shameful of me, to say the least. What I did was very immature. But it was what felt right at that time. I just hope ki tum log abhi ke lie bhula paoge yeh sab. I promise, i will tell you everything once I myself come to terms with it." She was tired and it was visible.

Muskaan's rage was taken over by concern for her friend. Muskaan could see how miserable Riddhima was. She couldn't help but engulf her in a hug. Rahul too cound'nt see his friend like that. He joined in. Even though, they couldn't reason out with themselves as to why Riddhima did what she did.They tried to let their hurt go just for her. Riddhima was now smiling through tears. This kind of warmth was the first time for her in these years. She held them tightly. Armaan like always understood Riddhima perfectly.He never expected anything from anybody, not even his closest friends. He was ready to give her a chance. But deep down, he knew things will never be the same again. Overall, the ice deep within was melting but the scars still remained.

"Lunch??"Riddhima asked. "For sure?" Rahul and Muskaan said. "Don't tell me you have started cooking!!" Armaan was amazed. "Oh, noo not at all. Siddhant hai na..He cooks amazing food. Yummy," Riddhima made a baby face. Sid was shocked to see this side of her. She had never been too free. She was always restricted, her thoughts, her actions, her words.He just ran to the kitchen to prepare some yummy food as Riddhima likes it. Riddhima was happy with the beginning of this new phase but she could clearly see the awkwardness written on their faces. The grudges hadn't vanished. How could they??
