Chapter 14:
Footlose was finally here. Everyone in St. Louis was ready for it, the teachers, the students, and of course the contestants.
"Bhai do you have the backstage passes ready?" Taani asked Swayam in a hurry trying to make sure that everything was set.
"Haan yaar Taani this is the third time you've asked." Swayam said annoyed.
"Sorry Bhai." Taani said blushing with a small smile.
"Why are you so tensed?" Swayam asked Taani sitting her down on the stairs as the others were getting everything ready to go.
"Bhai, it's just what if I mess up and the team suffers for it?" Taani asked feeling nervous since the morning.
Swayam smiled and put his arm around his nervous sister, "Taani we're all in this together. We have faith in you but you need to have faith in yourself and you do I've seen it in your dance. You believe in Krishnaji right just believe in him believe that your Krishnaji will make everything okay."
Taani smiled and hugged Swayam and gave her a huge smile, "Thanks Bhai."
"Yeah thanks Swayam for bringing her smile back to her face." Rey said smiling standing against the stairs.
"I'll leave you guys to it." Swayam said shuddering at the thought of hearing TaaRey's sweet talks, "It'll be okay Taani tumhara bhai tumhare saath hamesha hai." Swayam whispered to her as he hugged her one last time. Taani smiled at him and hugged him tighter, glad that fate gave her a brother like Swayam. She smiled as she watched him walk away thanking god that she had him in her life.
"I've been looking for that smile since this morning." Rey said sitting next to her smiling at her smiling face.
"Me too." Taani admitted, no matter what Taani liked smiling, it always made her feel happy. She took one look at Rey and smiled, he always made her happy. "Come on we have a competition to win." Taani said getting up and Rey and her made their way to the van.
At Footlose teams were getting ready to perform. The first performance was called on stage and the Louians all were watching from the TVs backstage.
"Wow, they are good." Rini said.
"Yeah they are." Nil agreed.
"Guys we can do this." Sharon said sensing their nervousness. "We have rehearsed, we have given our hearts to this one event, and you'll see the satisfaction we'll receive from just dancing on stage will be greater then any award we can get." She said motivating them.
Taani heard clapping from behind and turned around to see other teams clapping for Sharon's speech. "Wow nice speech it shows why we're really here for our passion of dance." A boy from another team said.
Sharon smiled and nodded at them. "Team Louians you're up." the stage manager said. The entire time looked at each other and huddled and chanted, "dil dosti dance" as they entered the stage. And liked that the team went off dancing not caring about the world just enjoying what they love most, dance. They showed that dance was the most important thing in their life. When the finished their dance all they could hear was the applause of the audience and the look of approval on the judges faces. The team bowed all together and walked off the stage.
"We did it!" Taani said smiling widely.
"Our dance, I can't believe that we finally danced as official Louians." Rey added feeling ecstatic. Taani smiled and hugged him as the rest of the gang exchanged hugs. "Guys Swayam and Sharon's dance is on." Rey said looking at the screen as Swayam and Sharon did a flawless pasa doble dance.
"They are amazing." Taani said amazed at their performance.
"Taani Rey you are next." the stage manager came out and said after all the performances were done. After getting dressed for their performance Taani smiled at Rey and took his hand as they went out to stage. Taani was wearing the same red kathak suit she wore when she first danced at St. Louis. Deciding to contrast Rey was wearing white.
They went onto stage and put in their music CD, Rey's idea, to use the CD with the music Taani had from jotpur when he first saw her dancing, when he fell in love with her dance style.
They started with kathak matching each other, challenging each other, complimenting each other. As the music changed to hip hop so did their style as they did the style Rey was most comfortable with. With that they went back to their original style kathak impressing the judges. Finally the music changed to contemporary and TaaRey danced as one. Lastly, the music changed back to kathak and TaaRey finished dancing ending in a pose.
Applause erupted from the crowd as they appreciated the last performance of the night. TaaRey bowed and left the stage with smiles on their faces and their friends congratulated and praised them.
Once the judges finished recording all the scores they started their awards. Swaron and Taarey were standing all next to each other knowing that only one couple would win for the couple dance.
"Third place for the couple dance goes to Xavier College, Maria and Anthony for hip hop." The host said as everyone clapped for the third place winners.
"Second place goes to Gina College, Arjun and Arohi (just for you sreeja 😆) for their salsa." The host said as the smiles dropped off of Swaron and Taarey's face.
"Don't worry all of us are winners." Taani said with a smile. "No matter what our college won."
"And in first place, the couple that brings the trophy home, well looks like there is something different here. It seems that two couples won, Swayam and Sharon for pasa doble and Taani and Rey for their kathak! The trophy goes to St. Louis College." Swaron and Taarey excitedly made their way on stage collecting their trophies with huge smiles on their faces as their team mates and the crowd applauded their earned victory.
"Now to announce the team that has won this competition." The host said as all the teams backstage held their breaths. "Why don't we do something different I'd like to call on stage the three top teams, Xaviers, Gina, and Louians." the host said making the Louians scream on top of their lungs and they rushed on stage. The team held hands and supported each other's fast paced hearts. Taani looked at Rey and he blinked back in assurance.
"Now why doesn't the leader of each gang tell us what this trophy means to them." the host said passing the mike to Xavier's.
"It means that our hard work in the past year was successful." the leader of Xavier's said getting an applause.
"It means that our talent is appreciated." Gina's leader said.
Finally the mike came to Rey. "Honestly, this trophy can't mean much to us. For us dancing on this platform is a big thing. We Louians know how much trouble we had to go through to be able to dance here today, from being banned in school, to bringing it back to school. So today is not just about winning a trophy for us, the real prize is being able to dance here today, in front of everyone, so we can portray our talent and our love for dance." Rey said earning a huge applause from the audience as his team nodded in agreement.
"Nice answers everyone, and the winner is." The host said, "LOUIANS!!" the host yelled as the louians cheered and screamed knowing that finally their hard work was rewarded. After a year of that horrible VP and Shivam trying to sabotage their dance, they were still here and they emerged as winners of the competition. Smiling they accepted their trophy and brought it back to their college as a reminder of the fact that St. Louis college was filled with talent and passion and hard work.
