CHAPTER 1
Arnav Singh Raizada was angry. That was an understatement- it would probably be more accurate to say that he was boiling mad. His company was suffering inexplicable losses, and time was running out with major campaigns around the corner. After exploring every possible avenue, he had to grit his teeth and take his loan proposal to his eccentric uncle N.K. aka Nand Kishore. The resulting conversation was imprinted on his brain, and he had to lock himself in his office to ensure that he did not kill the next hapless person who came in front of him. Recalling the conversation in the morning made his head hurt and he wished he could throttle his mad uncle.
"Have you lost it N.K.?" bellowed Arnav. "One asks for collateral against a loan, not a goddamn marriage!"
N.K. smiled at Arnav and continued puffing his rose scented cigar, further infuriating Arnav. He calmly looked at his nephew, wondering how his jovial, eccentric but lovable sister gave birth to such a stiff, dry man. Must be the effect of the Raizada genes from his father's side, thought N.K. drily. Arnav was a rock, a pillar of strength but the boy needed to loosen up!
N.K. drawled in his Australian accent, "Arnav my boy, you need to think rationally. What I am offering you is a deal of a lifetime- the loan you need with no interest, and the chance of having a beautiful marriage like your parents." N.K.'s eyes misted at the mention of his sister and her husband. Arnav's reaction was so swift that one would miss almost definitely miss it. Arnav's eyes twinkled for less than a second before regaining the coldness ASR was famous for. "What my parents had was a rare accident, which I have no hope or desire to recapture. What I do want is a bloody loan so that I can continue my business the way I planned."
N.K. looked at his nephew before saying, "You know my condition Arnav. Khushi is my godchild but she is too god damned stubborn to take my help. I promised her parents that I would take care of her but the girl is just too full of self respect and independence to let me pay for her education and..." N.K. stopped uncomfortably but Arnav was too incensed to notice. He snorted, "So you think this paragon of virtues that you have described will marry me for money?"
N.K. smiled at him shrewdly, "Now a good businessman like you should know how to present a deal in such a way that the opposite party has no choice but to accept. So do you agree?" "No I haven't agreed N.K., but as you just pointed it out, a good businessman like me needs to know the chances of success before committing to a project" snapped Arnav, knowing that his crazy uncle had him in a corner.
N.K. looked at him sharply, "Khushi is not a project Arnav; she is very dear to me. What I want for both of you is to find happiness in each other, and I believe you can find it together." Making his way to leave, he paused and looked at a scowling Arnav. Ruffling his hair because he knew how much his nephew hated it, N.K. added jovially, "I have mailed Khushi's details to you, contact her and set the ball rolling my boy!" Thumping Arnav on the back, N.K. left the office whistling. Now if only Arnav can convince Khushi, sighed N.K. His dream would come true.
Arnav's conversation with his uncle had taken place in the morning, and the evening did not present him with any alternative solution. Time was running out. He closed his eyes in defeat. It was time to meet Khushi Kumari Gupta.
