Leaving you behind Part 13

It had been 3 weeks since Khushi's accident and today she would be getting discharged, over these few weeks everyone was pampering and taking care of Khushi, there was only one person who had stayed a little distant and that was Arnav.

Ever since the day of the accident and after their conversation, Arnav decided it was best to let Khushi recover completely before giving her any sort of stress, Khushi's health meant the most to him' though he was missing Khushi and wanted to be near her, he had to stop himself for her sake, he just couldn't lose her.

Shashi was at the reception filling in the discharge form when he noticed Arnav coming towards him; he was a little surprised to see him. After so many weeks he decided to come today.

Shashi: Arnav, where have you been? After the accident day you didn't once come to meet Khushi' Sab teekh hai na beta ?

Arnav looked down unsure of what to say to Shashi, he couldn't possibly tell him the actual reason behind not coming.

Arnav: Actually uncle I've been really busy with college.

Shashi could see from Arnavs face that he was lying' he refused to believe that Arnav, the same Arnav that was panicking like hell when they found out Khushi had met an accident now prioritized college over his dear friend. Shashi remembered back to the day of the accident, he had gone to attend the call and then on the way he met with the doctor who gave him a list of medicines, so he had gone to get them and when he returned Arnav had gone and Khushi had a teary face' Now thinking about it he felt that there was surely something more than friendship going on between these two.

Shashi put his hand on Arnav shoulder and sat him down on a seat and sat next to him' and then faced towards him to question further.

Shashi: Look Arnav, I know you are a responsible and mature guy, you know where your priorities are' and don't tell me Khushi is not one of them, so tell me truthfully' you don't have to worry, I am like your father aren't I ?

Arnav looked at Shashi a little teary eyed when he said the word 'father', for a minute he really did feel like his father was sitting in front of him.

Arnav: Uncle' can I ask you something?

Shashi looked at Arnav a little unsure but nodded his head none the less.

Arnav: Why doesn't Khushi let anyone come close to her?

Shashi was taken aback by Arnavs question, he didn't quite understand what Arnav meant by this.

Shashi: Matlab?

Arnav was now definitely regretting saying what he said, but he knew that the only person he could find out about Khushi was from her father.

Arnav: What I mean is why is Khushi so distant with people?' even though she Anjali and my friend she still does not share anything with us, it's like there is something holding her back.

Shashi was now absolutely sure that Arnav and Khushi had feelings for one another, but he also knew why Khushi would never let anyone come close to her, she was still holding on to the past.

Shashi stood up and faced away from arnav so that his back was towards him.

Shashi: We had a son, who Khushi was very attached, he was Khushi's life, she would be around him 24/7, we all loved him, but if there was someone who was the most closest to him was Khushi' however god had other things in mind, he took our son and Khushi's one and only brother away from us' he had become seriously ill and was not able to survive as he became very weak' when he passed away Khushi had started to close down, and become very distant from everyone' when we finally got her out of that state she had cried and said that it was all her fault, she was only 8 and was very innocent and didn't know the actual reason behind his death, but as she grew up she had somehow kept that thought in her mind that she was the reason behind it, and so whenever she feels she is coming close to someone she fears that she may cause harm to them' we found this out when we took her to the psychiatrist when we felt that she was closing down' and now that you two are coming close' and don't lie that it is nothing like this' now that you two are getting close she is again distancing herself.

Arnav was shocked hearing what Khushi had to go through at such a young age' she had thought it was her fault, was this why she thought she would give him nothing but pain, was this why she had lied to him that she did not love him?

Arnav: Uncle' I' I don't know what to say' I am very sorry about your son and I really cannot believe that Khushi had to go through all this' I'm truly feel bad for her.

Shashi: Arnav' only you can bring her out of this state.

Arnav: Me? Uncle how can I'

Shashi: She loves you, I know it' all these days when you had not come she had her eyes fixed towards the door almost as if waiting for someone to come, she has become very quiet and I am sure the reason is because you were not there.

Arnav looked down a little embarrassed that Khushi's father knew that the two had feelings for each other.
