Epi-5
A growing irritation was creeping inside her head towards her one particular houseguest.
So what if he is an NRI?Shouldn't he show some Indian values and ethics when he is staying in India?I bet Smar uncle would have tried his best to put some sense into the thick head of that arrogant brat.
At first she didn't the way he greeted her family members with just one handshake. Whenever she used to forget to touch elders' feet, she always got an angry warning from her parents lecturing her about how it is an in decency not show them respect. And now, when that imp didn't show any respect, her parents seemed to be absolutely fine with it.
First di got mesmerized by that rude pretty face and now it looks like my parents are possessed by that ominous soul too.Great!
'At least,Vikrant is a real decent guy.'muskaan sighed thinking about the tanned skinned calm and quiet man.Though it had been only a couple of hours since they have been met, there was something very trustworthy and brotherly about him.
"Muski! Are you still with me?"Simran asked loud enough to breake her sister's muse.
A startled, annoyed and embarrassed Muskaan demanded
"Di you know I hate nicknames...What happened? My eardrums are not congenitally defective like yours, you know."
"That was a really poor joke! You didn't give me a choice other than yelling at you.I can't believe I was rambling my monologue for last ten minutes when you didn't heard a even single word!" Simi accused in exasperation.
"I should have saved my energy for my honeymoon night rather than wasting my precious advice about anger management."
"C'mon di...don't start your marriage crap again...not today.I'm already in a foul mood. And why do I need anger management lesson anyway?"Muskaan inquired rolling her eyes indicating how bored she was of her sister's useless rant.
"Well like you said...you are in a foul mood and I have got a bad news for you..."Simi said cautiously.
"Bad news?Shouldn't I be upset rather than angry?"she asked confused.
"Umm...I think anger is the only emotion you express your feelings associated with that person."Simran tried to give her a hint.
"It's that brat Avyukt again...isn't he?"Muskaan asked, anger visible on her large dark eyes.
"Yup...he got your room."She disclosed in a quick breath expecting her little sister's obvious outburst.
It took five seconds to sink those words in her head and then muskaan bursted "What?"
She didn't realized her scream was loud enough to reach through the adjacent room which once used to be her and now illegally occupied by the most disgusting houseguest she had ever seen.
*****************************
"Avi,I don't think it was polite for you not to accept the room they arranged for you."Vikrant tried to reason with his stubborn friend.
"Listen Vicky,I don't know about you.But I never share my bed with anyone"Avi explained earning a smirk from his best friend.
"Really?"Vicky taunted.
Realizing what he had said was wrong he attempted to correct himself.
"Okay...only with pretty, hot and sexy girls. And sadly you are not a girl...or are you?"Avyukt replied smartly.
"See,this is why I hate to argue with you.Whenever it ends, either you make me a girl or a gay."Vicky sighed in a frustrated tone.
"Fine!you wanna know why I'm doing this...Then listen...I did not come here on my own will.Dad made me to stay. And I know for a whole month I have to stay in this hell of a dusty village. So, why not give a crazy girl some hard time...It's my only way to entertain myself."Avi said satisfied with self-justification.
"Now I know why you gave up so easily when uncle forced you to come.I should have known you will vent your frustration on these people here.So who is the poor crazy girl you are aiming at?"Vikrant glared at him hopelessly.
"It's not that hard to guess. You remember that schezophrenic girl who was on top of me in that maze field?...what's her name?..."he tried to remember tapping his finger on forehead.
"You mean Muskaan?...she seemed to be a very nice girl to me."Vicky prompted him knowingly.
"Yeah...that girl.This room is...umm...was hers actually,And now it's mine."he declared triumphantly.
"Well...that was some misuse of her parents' pampering towards you."Vikrant said accusingly raising an eyebrow.
"Arghh...wasn't one father enough for me that you have started to give me that 'wise dad' look. You are only six months older than me."Avi whined annoyed at his friend.
"To tell you the truth...the way you keep messing up everything around you,I'll start to have gray hair in no time only worrying about you. It's not easy to have a overgrown kid as my best friend"he retorted back.
"Look who's talking?I'm not the one who nearly cried like a kid while making love with a girl for the first time. What a waste of such a wild chick. It's a shame that my best buddy is still a virgin!"Avyukt stated with a taunting smirk.
"Shut up Avi...that girl was a lunatic and I didn't go there willingly...you dragged me there along with you...and I didn't cried."Vicky defended himself being a bit embarrassed.
"I said you nearly cried Vicky. And that girl was no lunatic...lunatic is what I call Muskaan"he replied thoughtfully.
"She is not lunatic...she is nice..."
And then a raging scream entered their ears that came from the adjacent room.
A dumbfounded Vikrant wondered "What was that?"
"Just a confirmation..."Avyukt shrugged knowingly.
"Confirmation?"he asked looking confused.
"Yup...I told you she is a lunatic...must be having some schezophrenic attack.Don't worry it'll pass in no time."Avi stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
He did not realize the objet of their discussion was standing behind him.
"Of course I have to be the lunatic when a stranger manhandles my parents and breaks into my room.I never shared my bed with anyone...and I don't intend to do it specifically with you.Guests are meant to be in guestrooms and you better stay there."Muskaan stated in a seemingly calm voice pointing her forefinger to the intruder.
"Who wants to share bed with you anyway? This room is all mine as long as I stay here. And speaking of rules, shouldn't guests be treated more politely?"Avi asked pointing at her behaviour.
"Obviously.and that's how I'll behave with Vikrant and Samar uncle when he'll come here. But you are a scar in the name of a decent guest...you're just a pain in the buttock, you know."Muskaan verbalized her philosophy crossing her arms across her chest.
"What did you say?I'm pain in the ...whatever!And what is wrong with me that you don't want me to stay in your room?"Avyukt asked in rising anger.
"Because I don't want mean people in my room.Yes...you are a very mean and ill-mannered man."she snapped glaring at him.
"I get the 'mean' part. But when was I ill-mannered?"Avi asked genuinely curious.
"You are supposed to touch the feet of elders as greetings not shakehand."she replied in a mild surprise.
He was not deliberately being disrespectful. No one taught him the customs actually. But Vikrant knows them so well.
Avi took some time to reassemble his thoughts not to loose in front of the girl.
"Is this some sort of culture in India? And not abiding by it means disrepectful, right?"he asked finally scratching his temple.
"Wow!congratulations! You have a brain."she mocked.
"Well, happy realization day then."he retorted back before turning towards Simran.
"Simi...how old is she?"he asked her pointing at Muskaan.
"Twenty...why sweetie?"Simran asked a little perplexed but amused at the same time.
Muskaan rolled her eyes at the endearment while Avyukt tried hard to hide his blush.
"I'm twenty-one.So, doesn't that make me older than her?"Avi directed his query towards Simran again.
"Of course,it does."she replied with a knowing grin.
"Thanks for helping me,Simi"he flashed his crooked grin towards her and then turning his attention back to Muskaan"So,miss ardent-follower-of-Indian-culture...I might be mean and disrespectful but aren't you the same?"
Muskaan swallowed before whispering a faint question "What do you mean?"knowing very well what did he mean.
She had least expected to be tangled in the web of accusation that was only meant for him.
