Chapter 3

"Mr. Fernandez yours is not the only company that I'm dealing with...I can wait for 10 minutes only, if you do not make it by then, the deal is off..."he said into the phone as he awaited the arrival of Mr. Fernandez

"Jacques call me when Mr. Fernandez arrives..."

"Sir...you...where are you going?" Jacques dared to question him

"I'm going out...I need a beer...maybe walk for a while..."

"Right sir..."

A bottle of beer in his hand, he walked into the park...

While walking, he spotted a little girl, about 5 years old, sitting on a stone bench and crying to her heart's content...she reminded him of someone...but whom? He did not know...pushing that thought aside, he went to enquire about her... "Hi...What is your name?"

"An...*sob*...Anjali...*sob*"the little girl replied in an Indian type of accent...

"You know...my sister's name is also Anjali..."he said with a smile "And she is just like you...always crying..."he looked down at her with a smirk...she had a frown on her forehead and the tears continued flowing...

"Anyways why are you crying?...and where are your parents?"

"Mummy toh office mein hai...aur papa..."and the tears started flowing all over again...

"Kya hua papa ko?"he asked anxiously

"Papa...pata nahi"

"Pata nahi ???"

"Mummy kehti hai ki papa..."

"ANJALI???...ANJALI???...uff o beta I told you na? Do not talk to strangers?"the child silently nodded then she looked up at Arnav and back at the girl who came looking for her...and then back at her feet...

"Sir?...may I help you?..."the girl asked ASR..."Uh...umm...she is an Indian?!!!"he suddenly realized that he had spoken to her in his mother tongue...

"Yeah...why?..."

"Uh...she looks like a French...So I thought that..."he said with a smile

"No no...Actually she has been brought up here by her mother though she was born in India itself... While ma'am is in office...she is my responsibility..."she looked lovingly at the girl who was busy arranging the leaves that lay near her feet then suddenly realizing she extended her hand and said, "Oh...Hi...I'm Priya..." (Priya is extremely talkative, she has been with Khushi, talking care of Anjali since her birth. )

Clasping her hand and giving it a firm jolt he replied "Arnav...it was nice meeting you..."a smile playing on his lips...

"Anjali, aao yeh loh tumhara toy isse khelo", she told Anjali... "In fact she has been raised like a child would be in India...she only speaks in Hindi and has begun learing English..." she tried to explain to Arnav "Ma'am apne roots se bahut zyada judi hui hai...she never wanted to leave India."she blurted out

"Then why did she leave?" Arnav asked...

"She had some personal problems..."she said trying to make up for the little detail she let slip

"Oh! So...she's a single parent...???"

"Yeah...actually she had to leave for that only..."

"Why?"

"It's a long story..."Priya started...but Arnav's phone interrupted her..."Excuse me for a minute...yeah Jacques tell me...Ok I'll be there..."he turned to her... "I guess the story will have to wait...Bye...See you soon..."

"Bye sir..."Priya replied... "Stupid me...Why on earth did I have to go tell him about her???...anyway thank god for the call...otherwise my uncontrollable mouth would spill the beans..."she scolded herself

"Thank you Mr. Fernandez...it was nice doing business with you...I'm looking forward to our project..."saying this he led the Frenchman to the door...

"Jacques get your team ready for this project...Get Started NOW!!!"he roared

On his way back home, all he could think about was the little girl and what Priya was going to tell him...Curse that stupid phone of his...
