Part Eleven: A new day...Khushi was by Arnav's side early that morning as he continued to sleep off his weary pain.
She could see in his face, the innocence and vulnerability that he so fiercely guards! She softened at the the memory of him crying yesterday...there is something in that heart that I always see as stony, something that is vital to my heart too. I need to know, but, knowing Arnav he would not just melt before her again, especially as his raw spots were now some what exposed to her...his apparent arch enemy!Now, she was almost certain what he felt for her was a much tender emotion, just waiting to come to his lips if only he'd be honest with himself...and me...she blushed!
But, Khushi was willing to remove the hard shell surrounding his emotions, slowly when necessary...like now. If she went at him with hammers and tongs, right now, she may never get him to say what was about to be revealed by him ...she needed a little more trust from him...that she would not break his heart! But, she was also dying to get the thing that was blocking him, that one insurmountable barricade that seemed to have come between them over the past couple of days. He had to speak to her...but, definitely at his own pace, she knew this to be the only way! But, she may nudge and pull him to do when she had to...
Arnav awoke abruptly, and seeing Khushi sitting by the bedside in a yellow sari, looking like an angel...he wanted to bury his face in her lap once again...but , this was awkward...he had let his guard down with no proper explanation...and he did not want to give one right now either!
He got up. as if nothing had happened, and went to the washroom! Khushi quickly pulled out his clothes for wearing that day, and lay it on the bed. Then she held out a face towel for him as he came out.
" Thanks," said Arnav, looking away. Khushi followed him to the balcony where he sat sipping a cup of tea, that she had as HP to bring up. She held out the morning news paper for him. although, these seemed like silly wifely things to do when seen on TV, she realised that helping each other in tiny ways, can actually seal a bond. She could wait for him to reciprocate if and when things cleared between them...if and when...
They barely spoke, but she was anxious to broach the topic with him, but worried about him not finishing his tea, and leaving in a huff...that would be a bad start.
" Arnavji, I feel there is a lot that we have hidden in the depths of our hearts and minds...is it asking for too much to share these things with each other...and help us speak the truth , it just might ease our pain?"
Arnav was puzzled how to react to such a sincere and understanding plea on khushi's part.He was unused to looking into his emotions, let alone expressing them in the kind of words khushi did.
He thought and spoke in the only way he knew," Khushi, right now, i am sorry for my behaviour last night. if you expect me to confess something to you, sorry, it is beyond me. I am just able to say this much, your actions from before fooled me into believing our relationship was reaching a new level...but, as usual, I am out of touch when it comes to things of the heart! And I read people very poorly. Or I would have seen the treachery that was taking place right before the eyes of my sister. Enough said, you know very well, the rest. "
" Arnavji, if i only knew in what you believe I was treacherous to you or your sister, I would clear my name...please , if you gave me a chance..."
" Khushi, this is the height of it...you deceive us , and then lie that you don't know how..."
"Believe me, I would not say this if I did not mean it...you know I speak only what is in my heart," Unlike you, she almost added but controlled herself.
" Okay, let's get this straight, your little rooftop rendezvous with my brother in law, the man that fills my sister with stories of his fake devotion...I saw it...I saw it khushi...and I heard you demand him to leave my poor naive sister...how did you have the courage to play this double game with her, and with me..."
" Arnavji, what you saw was not what you believe it to be...didn't you hear me give him fire for fire, did I not curse the man for his cheating such a wife, that he truly does not deserve. look in my eyes Arnavji, can you not see what I feel for you...and what i had been planning to tell you that day...you know, but you deny it..you know but, you have trouble accepting it yourself...if you would only believe me...I could make you see how much...I love..."
Arnav was up and pacing , struggling to let go of the hate...and give way to pure love...
Khushi knew that at this point she had to reveal all that had happened in the past, she knew Arnav was in that place between trust and shock, she had to give it her last go...
She related her first meeting of Shyam, how he won Buaji's heart, the engagement, the revelation later on that it was he that was Anjali Di's elusive husband, and how hard the family had found this , how Khushi had to overlook all this all for her sister Payal's happiness...
She spoke of how Arnav had touched her soul , and had become a part of her...she would not let him go easily, but she had to make sure he would see that all she spoke was true...and spoke his love for her too!
" Arnavji, we can face this together...We can handle this whole Shyam scandal , once the delivery is done...we can do it, please just reach out for me and I am yours..."
Arnav turned and walked slowly towards her, convinced that it was his jealousy and misconception of khushi that had blinded him...Shyam he would come to later,,,when the time was ripe...and now with his beloved Khushi by his side...he had nothing to fear!They would build this one day at a time...
He took her in his arms and crushed her there, smelling the sweetness of her breath against his lips, he devoured her...and khushi got all the answers she wanted hear, in that moment of pure unadultered love and passion...they fell on the bed wrapped in each others arms...everything could wait...for the now the world stood still...as Arnav murmured over and over...as khushi moaned softly...
"I love you my Khushi, I love you...you are mine...only mine...forever..."
And they lived happily ever after...
