Part 5

...when her eyes widened at what she saw!...

Her hands were in between their chests, fisted in fear and also distancing herself from the muscled torso, so she could see the face clearly.

Arnav: What the hell are you doing here?? (gritting his teeth)

He had stepped into the garden and had looked around for any sign of the two, but found nothing but the greens that extended yards away, on either side.

His lungs were feeling heavy, just like it had when he had seen his wretched brother-in-law hugging his Khushi on the terrace, while he took hurried steps from one direction to the other, looking for the jilted...Lovers?

Closing his eyes briefly, he shook his head violently to get the stubborn thoughts out and try and focus on the present situation. Just then, what if she has gone to tell Di?..thought Arnav, opening his eyes instantly. No, she went out the poolside stairs... How do I know if she took those stairs and not went outside the room's door? Of course you know! The room's door was still locked, you Ass!...thought Arnav, twitching his lips again, as he turned around, and closed his eyes to think. But unconsciously he had unlocked it and opened it to check his corridor for any sign of Khushi. Well, in this pace it was impossible for him to think, though he was damn quick in thinking and easing out of matters that did not hold importance or which he did not wish to face. But ever since Khushi...ever since he realised his feelings for Khushi, and when it came to Khushi and only her, his thinking would fly out the window like birds fluttering away from something in fear!

Man!...thought Arnav, running his hand through his hair.

*Clink...Clink*

His eyes snapped open at that instant. He couldn't have mistaken. That was... Khushi!..thought Arnav, as he turned to look for the source of the clinking of bangles.
Without losing a second, as anger flared up inside him, he reached out for her, clapped her mouth shut, lest she would scream instinctively and raise an alarm and turned her to see pure shock written all over her face, as her eyes widened.

What she saw, was what she now dreaded. Yeh humein akela kyun nahi chhodte? [Why can't he just leave me alone?] thought Khushi.

Khushi: (struggling to breath as his hand had blocked her nostrils) Mmph! (wriggle out of his hold)

Arnav: (tightening his hold) Tum yahaan kya kar rahi ho? Voh bhi iss waqt? Tumhe... Tum bolti kyun nahi ho? [What are you doing here? And that to at this time? You...Why aren't you saying something?] (jerking her)

Khushi: (looking down at his hands and back up) Mmph! (trying to open her mouth in his grasp)

Arnav, understanding his own foolishness, instantly loosened his hold, but refused to even acknowledge his own mistake.

Khushi: (breathing in deeply to fill in her lungs with sufficient amount of air, then looking at him) Aise muh band karke rakhenge toh kaise bolenge hum? [How can I speak if you've shut my mouth like this?]

Arnav: (taking a step forward in a jerk scaring Khushi, who jumped at the spot) Mere sawaal ka jawaab do! [Just answer me!]

Khushi: (sighing stubbornly) Nahi denge hum! [No, I won't!]

Arnav: (closing his eyes briefly) Kyun? Koi mahurat chaahiye kya? [Why? Do you want any auspicious time?] (bitingly)

Khushi: Nahi! Kyunki hum aapke sawaal ka jawaab dena zaroori nahi samjhte!! [No! Because I don't think that answering you is important!] (before turning to attend her unattended dupatta)

Arnav: (grabbing her hand and turning her) Tum mujhe hi mere baatein suna rahi ho? [Repeating what I, myself said to you, eh?] (growling)

Khushi: (getting her hand up to his grip on her arm) Kyun? Buraa laga? Ab pata chala aap jo kehte hain, voh dusre logon ko kaise lagta hoga sunne mein! [Why? Felt bad? Now do you know how others feel when they hear you say that to them!] (jerking his hand away)

Arnav: You...(realising that his hand had been jerked away by her, so grabbing her again and pulling her towards the mansion)

Khushi: Arre! (on being pulled) Humaara... Humaara dupatta... [My... My dupatta...] (struggling against his grip and force and pulling herself back to the spot with all her might, but keeping in note that the dupatta shouldn't tear)

Looking back at her and then, following her line vision, grumbling, he stepped closer and reached out for her dupatta and without even thinking, pulled it so hard that ripped off the metal and tore a big hole in the net-like dupatta. All Khushi could do was just stand rooted there, with a gaping mouth, as the situation settled down in her head.

Khushi: (on being pulled again,as she tried to keep up with his pace, with her torn dupatta in her hand) Haw...Aapne...Aapne..humaara... Humaara dupatta... Phaad daala?! Humaara dupatta phaad daala? [Haw...You..my... my dupatta... tore it?! You tore my dupatta?] (jerking off her hand from his grip once again, startling him from his angry trance) Arnav ji! Yeh aapne kyun kiya?
[Arnav ji! Why did you do this?]
----------------
What was that? thought Shyam. He narrowed his eyes to see something red and blue in a distance moving, as the leaves of the trees barred his vision. He stepped closer to look at it, curious to know what or... Who was there!

*Clink...Clink*

There again! But it seemed to be fading away. He stepped closer and his hands shielding his eyes from the leaves and making way for him through the dark path.
He tried to keep up with the pace, following a path parallely and looking at the source again and again to not lose sight of it. Just it struck, as the face of someone came to his vision. Khushi?...thought Shyam, peering in closer. Khushi! And...There was someone else too. Because it looked like Khushi was talking to someone, though he couldn't hear a thing! Saale Saheb!...thought Shyam, with growing jealousy. But what are they doing out here? What's better than to ask them myself?...smirking, while half of his mind was still burning like acid, as all the night's events crashed back to him, as he stepping out of hiding, as it seemed and heading towards them.
--------------------

Shyam: Arre! Saale saheb? [Brother-in-law?] (pretending to be surprised) Aap yahaan? [You here?] (looking and then, back) Itni raat ko? [So late at night?]

Right when Arnav turned to Khushi and was about to give her a piece of his mind, he froze right there as his ears registered the voice that he loathed the most in his life. His eyes widened slightly as he thought about Shyam's presence here in the garden, so late at night! Did he hear us talking?...questioned Arnav to himself as he turned abruptly in Shyam's direction.

Khushi was in shock too and looked away at the instant when Shyam looked at her, making Shyam burn again and twitch his upper lip in anger.

Shyam: (controlling his anger) Kya hua? Itni raat gaye aap dono yahaan? [What happened? You two here so late at night?] (his eyes widening in pretend surprise)

Arnav: (relaxing his face features as he replied coolly) Haan... Bas thhoda tehelne aaye thhe! [Yeah... Just came for a stroll!] (turning to look at Khushi and then, back)

Shyam: (anger seething at the statement) Oh! (was all he could manage)

Arnav: (directing towards him) Lekin aap bataaiye! Aap itni raat ko ghar ke bahar kya kar rahein hain? [But you tell me! What are you doing out of the house so late at night?] (his eyes slightly narrowing in suspicion as he relaxed his fists)

Shyam: (who was looking at Khushi, instantly turning to Arnav) Hum...Hum bas bahar ki hawaa khaane aaye thhe! [I...I just came out to get some fresh air!] (smiling his sweet smile)

Khushi was the silent one in the three. She looked everywhere and even at Arnav, but not at Shyam. She could feel his disgusting eyes laid on her, before she heard him reply to Arnav's question.

This was irritating Shyam. Khushi was not at all looking him in the eye, but looking everywhere!

Shyam: (his mind brightening up with an idea) Chaliye na! Ab aap dono bhi yahaan hain, toh saath mein hawaa ka mazaa lete hain! [Come on! Now even you two are here, so why we don't we all enjoy the fresh air!]

Arnav: (not at all interested and suddenly) Di room mein hogi aur aap unko aise hi
chhodke aa gaye? Aisi haalat mein? [Di will be in the room and you left her alone? In this condition?]

Arnav resented saying that, because he did not want the lecher anywhere near his sister and Khushi, but he had to or he would keep annoying him further if he stayed back in the garden. And he had already decided to go back to his room.

Shyam: (sighing dramatically) Woh kya hain na Saal Saheb... Jo aap dono ne kiya voh kisiko bhi pasand nahi aaya! [It's like this Brother-in-law... Nobody liked what you two did!] (his head nodding at the two)

Khushi looked up at that statement to find Shyam glimpsing at her and back at Arnav.

Shyam: (sighing again) Aur aap jaante hain ki aapki Di ko bahut chot lagi hain...jis tareeke se aapne bartaav kiya...Achcha nahi thha. Aur hum jaante hain ki unhe abhi akela chhodenge toh voh thhodi shaant ho jaayegi and thhande dimaag se soch paayegi... Iss liye hum baahar aa gaye! [And you know that your Di is very hurt...by the way you behaved...It wasn't good. And I know that if I leave her alone for now, she may calm down and can think with a cool mind... Hence, I came out!] (shaking his head to give the effect)

Arnav: Hmm...(in no mood to say anything else) Night Sh-- Jeeja ji!! (his right hand grasping hold of Khushi's free hand startling her)

Arnav looked back at her with a tender look, pulling her nearer.

Arnav: Chale? [Shall we?] (softly)

Khushi: (looking down at his hand and then, back) Haan... [Yes...] (in a weak voice)

As he waited for her reply though he did not intend to, he turned a bit to see Shyam's face twitching menacingly and fumes emanating from his ears. He smiled slightly at the priceless expression of his dear Jeeja ji. This was going to be fun!...jerking his head slightly as he heard Khushi's reply, as if to tell Shyam that he could do nothing...Nothing now!

A glorious smirk adorned his lips, as he pulled Khushi with him back indoors.
Khushi turned a bit to see Shyam fuming and then, suddenly pleading to her. She turned away and started walking with Arnav comfortably, making Shyam writhe in anger again at his loss!!
------------------------
Right after reaching the room, he bolted his door and turned to walk to his bed.

Arnav: whirling her around to face him, still holding her hand tightly) Tum vahaan kya kar rahi thhi? [What were you doing out there?] (growling)

Khushi: (furrowing her eyebrows and jerking away her hand) Aapse matlab! [None of your business!] (turning away to her left from him)

Arnav: (instantly grabbing her arm with his left hand before she could do anything) Don't you walk away when am speaking to you! (bringing her closer and glaring down at her)

"Agar hum chal nahi sakte, toh bhaag toh sakte hain na!"

["If I can't walk away, at least I can run!"]

Just as he had said the last line, his mind was refreshed with a memory of Khushi running away from him in fear. A slow smile crept on his face, remembering how he had been furious at her antics and she had run away even before he could say anything.

Khushi was also reminiscing the same memory, resulting in a huge goofy grin on her face, on her own stupidity.

The scene changed and came to a stop near the big mirror, where Khushi was standing with her back to it, facing Arnav.
"Aap humse kuch baat karna chaahte thhe..."
["You wanted to talk to me..."]
While he just kept on advancing towards her, till her was near her.
Suddenly the scene changed and a thrash sound echoed across the room. He was standing there, still reeling in the effect of the slap with his neck craned to his right.

In reality, his body trembled with rage as his smile disappeared and his grip on her tightened, bringing her closer, when he heard a wince.

Khushi's grin instantly vanished as she saw three emotions fleet across his face - Happiness, admiration, love... Love?....and then, Rage! She felt her muscles tense up and get crushed underneath his strong hold as it tightened. She balled her right hand into a fist to counter the effect of his hold and but to no avail, thus making her wince in pain.

Arnav: (glaring down) Tumhaari itni himmat ki tum mujhe...Arnav Singh Raizada ko thhappad maara? Main tumhe iska jawaab jaldi dunga!! [You dared to slap me...Arnav Singh Raizada? You'll get an answer soon!!] (gritting his teeth)
Bahut jald!! [Very soon!!]

Khushi furrowed her eyebrows as tears stung her eyes. She looked down at his hold on her arm and saw something read and swollen and then, back up. Wait... she looked back down at his hand and realised that he was hurt.

Arnav's eyes followed her line of vision as it registered her motion. Realisation struck him hard and now he could feel the pain stinging his hand. His grip loosened as he lifted his hand slightly to see the wound.

She could see a piece of glass still stuck in between his knuckles. She wondered...Inko dard nahi hota kya? Itna bada sheeshe ke tukda unke haath mein hain, phir bhi? Kaise insaan hain yeh? Kabhi kabhi toh shuk hota hain ki yeh insaan hi hain ya kuch aur!
[Doesn't he feel any pain? Such a huge piece of glass is in his hand, then too? What kind of a human is he? Sometimes I suspect if he is even a human or something else!]

Her hands instantly shot up to hold his hand tenderly, carefully touching his knuckles so she wouldn't hurt him.

Khushi: Aapko chot lagi hain! [You're hurt!] (looking up at him and then back to his wound)

She located the piece of glass and her fingers reached out to pull it out. But before that, she paused to see how it was embedded and looked tentaively at him to see any sign of protest. getting the green signal, she held his hand tenderly and let her fingers do the work. Her fingers by mistake pressed the swollen part, resulting in a 'hiss' from him.

She paused to look at him and saw that he had closed his eyes while his other fist loosened slowly. She got back to work, pulled out the glass and threw it away. Just when she got it out, she heard him groan in pain, with his fist balling up and eyes scrunching. To ease it, she blew on the wound and took a step towards the washroom, mentally making a note to wash the wound, when she felt his hand slip away from her loose hold in a jerk.

Khushi: (turning to him) Aapko chot lagi hain, Arnav ji! [You're hurt, Arnav ji!] (reaching out for his hand)

Arnav: (keeping his hand away from her reach) Toh... [So...] (blankly) I don't care!

Khushi: (confused) Par... aapko...chot... [But... you're...hurt...] (trying to reach again)

Arnav: (cutting in) Tumhe kyun farak pad raha hain? Tumhaare chhoone se achcha mujhe chot lagna behtar lagega! [Why does it concern you? I would prefer to get hurt, than let you touch me!] (pointing to her accusingly)

Khushi: (jaw tightening) Theeke! [Fine then!] (breathing deeply to control her temper at such an accusation) Bhaad mein jaaye aap, bhaad mein jaaye aapki yeh chot! [You and your wound can go to HELL!] (turning away in a huff and stepping out to the balcony)

Arnav: Ab kahaan jaa rahi ho? [Where are you going now?]

Khushi: (turning a bit to answer him back) Kahin nahi! Hum yahi... [Nowhere! I'm..] (suddenly coming to a stop)

She heard some crushing and kinkling sound beneath her feet. She looked down only to see shattered glass down near the pool, some in big pieces and some in small. Her eyes followed the trail of glass back to the sliding door to see it shattered in the middle.

Thankfully, there was another sliding door behind it, so the glass pieces had not fallen inside the room. But what was that? She saw drops of dried blood streaked on the broken glass pieces. Her eyes followed the length to down below the door, on the floor droplets of red on the shattered pieces. The trail extended to the adjacent side of the pool and then to the stairs. Her eyes widened as it trailed the length and she instantly realised that he had done this. Toh inhe aise chot lagi!... [So that's how he got hurt!...] thought Khushi. He had done this before coming out to the garden to find her, and hadn't even realised it.

Apne gusse ki wajah se!...
[Only because of his anger!...] thought Khushi, as she turned with a look, half of worry and half of anger at his stupidity. She saw him look at her, and instantly rearranged her expressions from worried to unaffected.

Was that care I saw?...
thought Arnav, as he furrowed his eyebrows and saw that the expression vanished as it had come and was replaced by and unaffected look.

She turned away in a huff, so to stop giving him any ideas, only to plop on the seat facing the door, on which she had seen him sitting everyday working on his laptop, busy as a Bee.
