Hospital

Nupur on the reclining bed , mayank next to her waiting for the doctor

"tum teek ho?"

" ek aur baar poocha na tho tum teek nahin rahoge, mujhe darr lagrahaan hain mayank"

a new doctor came in and started looking thro her file saying umm, umm a few times. And started the scanning

"ab dard hain?"

"nahin. Kya baat hain?"

"aapke pehle scan ka report mein kuch tha?"

"haan, " nupur replied while mayank shook his head

"bachha tha. aap is baar ki boliye na, pechle ki kyun poochrahin hain?" she retorted back

"nupur!" mayank made shut up faces at her.

The doctor stared at her and then looked at the screen, and finally after what seemed like ages smiled.

"koi problem nahin hain. dono bachhe perfectly fine hain." and turning the screen towards them showed them.

"kya?" "kya?" "dono " "matlab?"

and they stared at the screen . this time they could clearly make out the small face , few fingers and legs moving and just as the baby turned, another face appeared raising its hand. Mayank stared at the two moving figures feeling his heart contract with a tightness that he hadn't thought possible. he gripped nupurs hand and felt her hand tighten the grip in return. They had twins?! all the fear that they had had while coming to the hospital vanished as soon as they saw the fingers!

The doctor moved the screen away and said, "careful rehna, aapne kuch zyaada stress liya hoga.

" doctor, yeh doosra kahaan se aagaya? Pichli baar tho... "

"Kal subah aake aapke regular doctor se milena"

"doctor dono matlab?" mayank asked for confirmation

"twins hain. Aur appointmant miss mat karna ab se careful raho. Bleeding nahin hona chahiye..."

" waise ladke hi haina?" nupur cut the advises short

The doctor stared at her again and mayank," nupur! Sorry doctor. Humein nahin jaanaa hain." and stopping nupur," wo legal nahin hain"

" mayank bachha mera hain , yeh bhi nahin poochsakthi ki ladka hain ya nahin. Ismein kanoon kya karega" he glared at her . Nupur rolled her eyes at him and the doctor

As she got down from the bed , she asked ," waise mujhe laga ki andher se kuch horahaan tha, jab dard nahin hota hain tab bhi. Wo..."

"its okay," doctor smiled," wo aapke bacche ka movements hain. abhi fifth month hogaya hain tho aap pehchaan paaogi . agar usmein kuch changes aaye tho..."

"wo hamara baby tha! matlab babies! Aur mujhe laga ki kuch gadbad hain! matlab mera connection hain bachhe ke saath! " and putting her hands around mayank gave him a tight hug and to complete the picture kissed him," mayank usne mujhe laat maara!!" gleefully

The doctor stared again and mayank gave an apologetic look though he looked still dazed.

"twins" "Judwaaa"

And both of them held each other laughing. Nupur who was sitting on the bed leaning on the pillows moved close and placing her head on mayanks lap stretched her legs.

"mayank mujhe lagtha hain ki hamaari doctor ne hume jaan bhoojke nahin bataya ki judwaa hain,kyunki jab delivery hoga, tab wo ek le sakthe hain aur hume pata nahin chalega. humhe doctor badalna chahiye. " she announced

Mayank smiled, bent and kissed her on the side of the forehead," aise ideas tumhe aathe kahaan se hain! But nupur twins! Matlab double responsibility"

"matlab double khushi"

"jab dono baahar aayenge aur tum unke school ke admissions ke time pe bolo double khushi."

"offo mayank paida tho hone do! School ke liye bohot time hain abhi. Kitne chote chote the na?" she said remembering the scan

"paida hote hi dono ke diapers badalthe badalthe thak jaaogi na tab bolo double khushi!"

"main akeli kyun karoongi? Tum ek ko sambhalo aur main doosre ko"

"tho kamaayega kaun?"

"mayank tum phir se..."

"nupur lagtha hain mujhe wo doosra kaam..."

"nahin" and she got up balancing on the elbow said," nahin mayank please. tum chaho tho mera karcha jo bhi hain wo kam kardo. Phir se nahin. Main tumhe itna miss..."

"okay. " and closed her mouth with his hand ,"waise nupur yeh hamara secret hain, kisiko mat batana ...maa ko bhi nahin, gunjan ko bhi nahin."

Nupur got up completely and moved her free hair to one side , her hand still on his ," kya?mayank aisa mat karo, mujse yeh nahin hoga. Main itni badi baat chupaa nahin sakthi sabse "

"jab teen saal tak sabse alag..." mayank began without thinking and stopped. Nupur removed her hand from his , hurt and sat back . mayank pulled her hand hands back in his and pulling her closer apologetically continued," sorry nupur. Mera matlab yeh tha ki tum chaho tho kuch bhi karsakthi ho. nupur..."

She didn't reply but didn't resist when he pulled her into his arms ,he rocked her quietly and kissed her hair hoping his stupid comment would nt spoil the perfect day that it had been. Nupur on her part closed her eyes and her head on his chest , let the sudden bitterness that filled her heart settle down.

"mayank, dekho jab se bachhe ke baare mein pata chalaa hain tab se kuch bhi galat khayal mere dil mein aaya nahin aur abhi abhi jo...ek minute mein itne saare kadwaahat..."

" please nupur sorry. bas mooh se nikal gaya. aaj ke baad main kabhi bhi..."

"chodo mayank," she changed the topic," par ab yeh batao," she lifted her face up to face his own, her eyes holding his , her hand cupping one of his cheeks ," ismein chupaanewaali kaunsi baat hain?"

"nahin, par phir bhi ..." He insisted , " mujhe bas zyada attention nahin chahiye , zyaada attention milega tho tumhe zyaada tiredness bhi hogi. Bas mere baat maanlo ek baar" he was apprehensive and he didnt know why. Maybe he needs time still, he always needs time for the simple stuff aur jo bhi mushkil hota hain wo aaram se karlega!

she sighed and sitting straight their hands still entwined nodded.

he smiled," thanks" and pushed all her hair to one side

her eyebrows went up, " thanks? Waah mayank sharma teen din mein do baar ! waise mujhe isse kya milega?" she asked saucily

"kya chahiye Mrs Sharma ko? Jaan tak haazir hain" he replied jokingly but as soon as the words were out of his mouth his face changed assuming a tensed expression.

nupur whos face mirrored his expressions recovered almost in an instant and pretending to ignore his apprehension, answered lightly , " tumhaari jaan tho tumhaare paas hain hi nhain mayank sharma jo tum usse kisiko bhi desakhoo. wo tho meri mutthi mein hain! mujhe bas tumhaara ek waada chahiye " he followed her lead in ignoring the awakward moment and raised his eyebrows," ki tum hamare bachon ke maa ko hamesha pyaar karoge , tab bhi jab wo boodi aur moti hojaayegi " she said mock seriously

he laughed ," okay par tum.."

" main nahin bataaongi. tumhaare liye kuch bhi"

he smiled more widely showing his dimples.she pulled his cheeks ," hey bhagwaan mere bachhon ko bhi yeh dimples de dena" she appealed to god and suddenly held her tummy

" mayank!", she pulled his hand and placed it on her tummy where the babies moved," pata chala? Lagtha hain unhe bhi dimples chahiye!" she giggled feeling the kick and recognising it for what it was.

Mayank felt the movement through the nightdress that she wore and felt strange. Was it real? The black and white thing that he saw in the scan was actually real. It was moving and he could feel it. He was responsible for these , they were his babies! and two of them! What was he going to do with them? He felt another kick and found himself waiting for the next one. it didn't come .

Looking up at nupur who was giggling and who didn't seem to ve understood the sudden realisation that had struck him, he hugged her. The warmth of delight , of bliss conveyed itself to her as she hugged him back happily though of a different nature.
