He stared at her in bewilderment..letting her every word sink in. "khushi,please stop crying, i will answer you ."
He knew he had to.For her.For himself. He wouldn't search for an escape this time.
" Sheesh mahal, yes.. our sheesh mahal.It was my heaven . And why shouldn't it be? The happiest family of this world resided in there. i lived with the people i loved the most..my ma,pa, and di."
The mention of that place brought back old memories to both of them .She couldnt help herself think of that fateful night. The images of that night flashed before her eyes.' She was falling in his arms...He was humiliating her..those fire filled eyes.. the pulling of the string from her back.. the clatter of the falling pearls on the ground..the humiliation".
Arnav sensed khushi was lost somewhere.She must b thinking of what passed between them at sheesh mahal.
"I'm sorry khushi for what happened on that evening. I'm really sorry.I treated u in a way -i dont know why-wish it never-..." he stammered. Guilt and happiness makes a person go out of words.This time it was guilt.
Khushi looked into his eyes and saw only pain reflecting in them.
"I have forgiven u for it long time back. On the day u apologised to jiji for being d reason for her broken marriage. i really did."

"Jeeja- i mean shyam claimed to love di. i would c him in the garden everyday pluck fresh flowers and stand beneath her balcony hoping to catch a glimpse of her. I loved gardening since childhood. On sundays dad would accompany me in helping me plant new trees and i would help jeeju with gathering the most beautiful flowers . Di loved him too. I thought him to b the nicest person i had ever met . Never knowing i would b so wrong."
" It was di's marriage day. there was nothing but joy in our house. The day had come when my di wuld b going so far away from us. I never wanted her to. just a few minutes were left when the wedding procession to start. Could nything go wrong? But then it did. A gunshot was heard. "
He stopped as the noise echoed in his ears. Khushi felt her heart beat rising high. slowly, she put her hand on his shoulder. he needed that support.
" i saw maa running wildly on the upper floor. When i reached there i-i saw my dad dying.. His blood soaked body lay on the floor. He was dead khushi. He was gone." Khushi knew what it was like to lose the ones u have loved the most.She let him speak."
"My maa bent over his body, trying to bring him to life.. Just then her weak heart succumbed to what lay in front of her eyes. She couldn't c my father die. She was gone too. And they both left us forever."
The tear trickled down his cheek for the first time since their funeral day. Khushi weeped alongwith him . There were no words of sympathy ,no words to console. They both were lonely and only they could wipe away the loneliness from each other's life.
" My father was killed by his close business partner. He had wanted to own his wealth.The case was closed as suicide . Money caused the death. His will was forged by my uncle. I had loved him so much as a kid. He was respected in our family.And what did he do? Money changed him. We were left penniless. He showed us the door. " He remembered how anjali begged him to let them stay. To give them the love he had given when they were children. " shyam married her despite our condition. he helped di recover from that haunted past. A reason i had to believe in his love for di".
So this had turned him so cold towards the world. He continued to speak outporing every emotion he had held deep inside.
" That was the day i vowed to come back and own sheesh mahal with my money. That was the day i realised marriages never last. My parents had vowed to stay forever together, the vow was broken. he left her before. Why had god inflicted this upon us? That was d day i knew' the world was more cruel than kind'."
"Arnav, i know u have reasons to believe that world is cruel but a time has to come when u have to let all of it go." she tried to make him understand. She herself was somewhere stuck with her childhood loss of her parents.
" i cant khushi.. its embedded in me. Mayb someday-" he paused and then continued " i will try.. the way u have overcome it.. i wish i could b strong like u"
"I'm with u" she smiled at him.
"That's how i had changed so much. Money was the only thing i saw people live for until i met u khushi. Tell me one thing.."
"what?" she asked instantly..
" I hurt u so much .. brought tears in your eyes innumerable times, den why couldn't you bring yourself to hate me?"
she didn't know how to answer him. For a second she closed his eyes. ALL the times he had apologised to her.. all the times he had unknowingly supported her and her family...all the times she had seen all the good inside him shown brightly.. and anjali whom he could never hurt.. and if he did.. he made up for it..thats wahat made her love him..
" i knew u never meant to hurt nyone. your anger was your shield arnav. It was my heart that always said that he never wanted to hurt u and was right. u always said sorry from ur heart."
"Thank you.. " He slowly slid his arm around her waist." I'm with u khushi and im sorry for all the times i've hurt u.. i swear to myself i would never let it happen again. Thank u again for bringing my family closer to me. Nani has given me the best gift of asking me to marry you.Dont blame yourself for anything.All that has happened is part of something which v would never understand. We will always b together, in all times."
He smiled again dat night knowing in his heart he needed khushi.He would never lose her no matter what.And she asked for nothing more.
Together they saw the breaking dawn . the sunlight slowly making its way through the darkness.
