Riddhima was still cursing at the guy who got her late as she bumped into someone. "Sorry". " Its ok. Btw Hi I'm Atul! First day of internship?" " Hi! I'm Riddhima, yes first day of internship!", she shook his hand. They walked to the nurse station together. "So where are you from, I mean where did you attend medical school?" he asked her. " I went to medical school in Bangalore, but live here in mumbai, what about you?" "I went to medical school in Delhi, I'm from there itself, took a break after that to take care of Dad and then decided to start my career again" He said with a smile. "I took a year off too, to do some personal work, looks like we're gonna be the oldest in our batch" He laughed at that." Yup, I'm probably older than some of the senior doctors, but what use is that, there' gonna boss me around anyway" Riddhima smiled.
They reported to the nurse station, where Armaan was looking at his file. Once everyone filed, he assigned everyone duties and went away. Riddhima thought about appologising for being late. He seemed to care a lot about rules and it'd be best not to start off on a bad note, since he is her senior. So she went to his cabin and knocked on his door. "May I come in Sir?" Armaan answered yes, without looking up. "Sir.." she started and looked at her. His eyes narrowed at looking at the irregular intern. "Yes Dr. Gupta what is it?" He asked indifferently. " Sir, I wanted to apologize for being late in the morning. I just want to tell you that I'm really sorry, I'm dedicated to being a good doctor and I want to promise you that it won't happen again." He stared at her indifferently and sighed. "I'm not going to say its okay Dr. Gupta, but since you do claim to be dedicated to your work, I will give you another chance. But I don't want to see this repeated again." " Yes Sir." With that she left.
She sighed as she walked to the general ward, where her duty was assigned. He was such a strict person, always buried in his files. I'm sure dada(her papa) would love him if he sees him, he's a complete clone of his hardworking stature, except younger and probably better looking as well. She sighed as he reminded her of her dad. She walked around the hospital which she knew too well. Riddhima finished her first day of work and headed home.
"Armaan" Rahul knocked on Armaan's door. "Ya Rahul, do you need something?". Rahul sighed as he looked at his younger brother answering him without looking from his file. He was such a boring workaholic who had the potential to be fun around if he tried. He remembered how fun Armaan used to be when he was younger, his pranks, his jokes, his incorrigible plans. Somewhere down the lane, he lost his brother, as he moved to Delhi for Medical school, he became completely indulged into work. "Yes, Armaan as a matter of fact I do! I need my jerk of a younger brother to help me pick up my sister who is going to land in Mumbai in another half an hour from the airport. Let me know if you find him, cause I don't have my car with me and I really need to go to the airport." Armaan looked up, "Rahul..I have a surgery scheduled tomorrow, its complicating I need to concentrate, take my car if you need to, I need to read these again". "Armaan, you've been studying this for the past three hours, I say your prepared, go home and read, Nikki's coming after a year, and you need to be there, zyaada bhav math kaa chalo!" And he dragged armaan from there ignoring his protests. They picked Nikki up and had dinner enjoying the company of their family. Billy was at his usual best, cracking jokes that no one ever understood, while his kids just shaked their heads at him. "Hey kids, I'm sure you've never heard of this one, why did the man throw his watch out the window?" He paused for a bit,and when no one answered he replied, "Because he wanted to see time fly, haha hahaha." Nikki and Rahul, just shook their heads. "Maybe I should throw my watch too, at times when I want to fast forwards your jokes." Rahul mumbled. " I heard that sunny boy!" Billy answered. "Oh common Dad! Give me a break please", he pleaded with his hands. "Kalb hi, apne board of directors ke sath yahi joke maara, I mean kya sochenge who log? Ki you find them boring and you want time to fly by? Thoda tho sochiye!" "Sonny boy, who log understood everything!okay!" They finished their dinner and headed off to bed, while Rahul and Billy continue to talk about things. Nikki overheard them and joined their conversation as well. And Armaan who was oblivious to things as usual, read his files and slept off.
Riddhima was calling the florist to arrange flowers for her nani's birthday when she heard a crashing sound from upstairs. She rushed upstairs along with Juno and Parso Ram, their hometaker. She was shattered to see the sight in front of her. Nani was lying on the floor unconscious, with a broken glass in her bleeding glass. "Nani!" she exclaimed!, she quickly checked her pulse, and saw that her pulse was low. Juno and everyone called for the ambulance while Nani was rushed there. Riddhima was shocked beyond her wits, she loved her nani dearly and was heartbroken at the sight of her nani.
Meanwhile Armaan was paged right as he reached upstairs. He rished to the hospital without answering anyone. Armaan and his team operated on Nani. She had a massive stroke and needed to be operated immediately. Once the operation was completed successfully, Armaan came out to see his father's best friend Rohan waiting outside with a worried look. "Armaan, maa kaisi hain?" "Sir, aap? Woh apki maa hain, she's fine sir, mssive attack aaya the, but ab stable hain." And with that Rohan and Shashank rished to meet their mother, while Anjali and Padma followed. Riddhima stood there unmoved, tears flowing from her eyes. Armaan saw Riddhima leaning on the wall with a tear ridden face. Something about that strung his heart somehow, he didn't know why but he started walking towards her. "Dr. Gupta, aap yaha?" Riddhima opened her eyes and realized Armaan operated on her nani. "Dr. Armaan, meri nani kaisi hain? Is she ok? She was fine in the morning, was always in good health, I don't know how this.." And she broke off sobbing again. Armaan's heart twitched at this sight. For some unknown reason, he felt the need to console her, wipe these tears off. But that was a territory he did not want to step into. He told her her Nani was fine and told her not to worry and left hoping she stops crying soon. Riddhima rushed to see her nani. "Nani! Aap kaise hain, nani main tho bahut daar gaya tha!" And she started crying again. "Aree pagli! Main theek hoon ab. Chinta math karo!" Padma rubbed Riddhima's head lovingly and assured her "Beta, nani bilkul theek hogayi hain. Don't worry she will be fine! Now you're my big girl right? So stop crying." She wiped Riddhima's tears. Shashank held her hand, "You're my big brave wolf remember, nani's fine beta don't worry" She laughed at that. Rohan just stood there with a pained expression at his mother. Shashank saw this and nudged his brother, "you can cry if you want to, human beings normally cry if something hurts them. But I guess you don't need to anymore, Armaan's a pretty good surgeon, nani is fine" Rohan just looked at him and ignored him. He told nani to take care of herself and left. Shashank sighed, he knew his brother cared for his family a lot, but just became stone hearted and unexpressive since the death of his wife. He looked at Riddhima who was a daughter to him, who had been deprived of the ove she deserved even though he tried his best to fill in that spot. He just hoped someday, she would live a life without having any voids in love.
