She talked to Jiji everyday but never asked her the one question she had always desired to know; how was Arnavji?

I found this especially moving.
One feels the emotion in your writing.

I'm sorry again for a late update' this time it wasn't because I was lazy though. The stupid internet got disconnected because of a freak accident and the repairing took a week. Losing my marbles because of boredom since last sat. I haven't read all the PMs sent to me, so all those who PMed me, I'm sorry, will read and comment soon.

So, here is another update.

These 2 songs are running in a a loop in my head since a long time. Listen to them.

Part 13

The Killers - Reasons Unknown

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1dSkEHQCQU

Kuch kam roshan hai roshani,

Kuch kam gili hai barishae,

Kuch kam leherati hai hava,

Kuch kam hai dil mein khwaishein,

Tham sa gaya hai...

Yeh waqt aese tere liye hi...

Thera ho jaise.

I pack my case, I check my face,

I look a little older, I look a little bit colder.

One deep breath, One big step,

I move a little bit closer,

For reasons unknown...

Their worlds had shrunk so suddenly, that it had become a hard task to adjust, one did brilliantly in comparison to the other, but none was a winner. They remained incomplete without the other.

Each km that flew beneath the tires, his anticipation grew, his heart knew that its beats would reunite with its rhythm, in a clich, its better half.

Khushi was restless as her hands made imperfect spheres of ladoos, each tossed with carelessness into the container. Her heart though felt oddly light, like a new breath of life made its existence easier.

Anjali was anxious of her decision as she drew steadily closer to the end of her journey. She was repentant but apologizing was different. She had not done it in a long time, and her actions would require more than an apology. What had passed in the past six months was more than just a chapter of her life, she had evolved. From the always dependent house wife, asking for support from not just her husband but also her brother, she had become independent. She had made one of the hardest decisions of her life with a blink of the eye - She had let go of her family, distanced from her brother, irked her family and become a business woman leaving the pleasures of her home.

Akash was happy and unhappy if that could be felt together. He was happy to start a family and upset because of his brother. What they were doing now was supposed to have occurred much earlier, he felt. Khushi deserved an apology, she needed to be happy and Bhai was her happiness. He had guessed a long time back, but he could do nothing because of Anjali's resilient nature.

He wished his brother to return to his former self, but as much as Payal and he tried, it never worked. His balm was Khushi and he would make sure they were united. Today would he a new dawn.

I know if destiny's kind,

I got the rest on my mind,

But my heart they don't beat the way it used to,

And my eyes,

They don't see you no more.

Arnav read the signpost as the car halted at the toll booth,

"Welcome to Lucknow"

A smile crept onto his face, so close, he thought. Finally he would find peace. He looked up into the sky to the dimmed stars unseen in the sun's light.

Khushi's hands worked furiously over the kadhai, making jalebis, for relief and a customer. She would take precisely 30 minutes to wrap up and the same time, Jiji would return.

Anjali played with her fingers, twisting and untwisting, nervous, as she stood outside the Gupta house. Payal and Akash were happy, taking their first steps towards home. They had reached early making no halts in between and starting early.

Anjali took a deep breath and moved towards the door, it had been a while since she had stood in a social circuit, and she plastered a familiar smile and waited. This one was for Arnav.

Madhumati opened the door to find Akash, Payal and too her dismay, Anjali standing on the door step. She would gladly share her views but later, today they would behave, for Khushi. It had been a while since they had seen a real smile light her face, it worried them, but when Aloo - Puri's didnt work, nothing else would.

Phool meheke nahi,

kuch gumzum sai hai,

Jaise roothe hue

Kuch yeh tumse hai,

Khusbue dhal gaye,

Saath tum aab jo nahi.

He fought the weariness that threatened to engulf him, fighting against his drooping eye lids, as he reached the corner of her lane. No not now, just a little further, he thought, willing himself to stay conscious. He rested his head on the cold window pane, trying to ease the throbbing in his head.

His eyes closed and he drifted into another land.

A scared driver walked into the shop while Khushi was popping the final jalebi into her mouth, intending to close early.

"Mithai... Vo saaheb... Sugar ki bimaari..."

Her reaction was instantaneous; she jumped out of the shop and moved behind the driver, jalebi in hand. "Sugar ki bimaari" phrase always set her heart racing, after her first error in judgment.

She saw the same Fortuner, she had been thrown out of so many times, the owner sprawled in the back seat, smiling in his dreams and her heart stopped beating.

"Arnavji" alarm in every syllable.

She tried to push the jalebi down his pursued lips, but the effort was futile and so she tried to shake him out of the stupor and when nothing worked she rushed him to the hospital.

He was with Khushi, in the most beautiful place in the world. A river moving in its course, gurgling over the rough terrain, a wooden bridge over the river and at the other end stood Khushi. The river reflected the moon light and the countless stars illuminating the sky. He extended his hand, willing her to take it, as she moved forward. She graced her hand in his and he entwined his fingers with hers. If felt so real, so substantial, "Khushi" he murmured.

She felt him clutch her hand and his lips murmur her name as they rushed him into intensive care and her heart thudded. Her heart twisted and as his hand was pulled away from hers, she felt incomplete, like a part of her was lost. She begged to Devi Mayya to spare his life.

Her phone rang fifteen minutes later, while the doctors were still examining him.

"Jiji" was all she managed to say before she broke down completely, tears flew down her face, awaiting a final blow to her heart and life.

She was in pain was an understatement, never had she imagined the strong and khadoos, wall of a man crumbled like this. He was broken, and in pain and the thought made every cell in her body ache, to relieve it, if not to relieve it, to share it with him.

He still said her name like a caress, after all that had passed; it broke her strength, than renewing it. His subconscious recognition of her, the protective way in which he had held her hand, pained her, for the thought of it being a last.

She told Payal where they were and the phone disconnected.

And my lips they don't kiss,

Don't kiss the way they used to,

And my eyes don't recognize you no more,

For reasons unknown...

Tham sa gaya hai aise,

Tere liye hi...

Thera ho jaise...
