Pt. 3
~Arnav's subconscious thoughts~
In a very far off distance, in complete darkness, Arnav heard the voice of an elderly woman, a voice he thought that was silenced forever, his mother's. Wondering what she was trying to tell him, he mentally cried out to her.
"Arnav" she whispered, as the emptiness carried out her voice, "beta, I'm somewhere very far from you but, know that there is someone very close to you, very dear to you, that loves you as much as I do. Please Arnav, don't try to push her away'don't be afraid to lean on her for support she'll always be there for you, don't try to suppress what you feel for her, it will not do you or her any good. I have to go now but remember your mamma loves you and always wants to see you happy. Accept her love and your love for her, and bring back that happiness in your life, please beta." his mother's voice echoed, slowly disappearing into the empty silence.
Arnav could do nothing but feel the pain, the longing of trying to hold his mother back from leaving him again. He felt nothing but numbness, a cold emptiness, when suddenly delightful warmth seeped into his skin melting away the cold harshness. He felt a gentle squeeze on his hand and knew it was her, Khushi. She came, his heart leapt with joy, she came for me. He heard her angel like voice whisper with so much pain, "Arnav please don't leave me." and in that instant he knew his mother wanted him to know that Khushi loved him dearly, that she would never leave his side, that his happiness lied in hers. He felt water, hot water, on his hand and knew that she was crying. Oh, what he wouldn't do now to get up and wipe away her tears, tell her how much she means to him, but he couldn't.
Was he really slipping away into the darkness? No, he couldn't, he wouldn't, not when he finally found his angel, his reason to live.
Please, let me have another chance, another chance to show my Khushi how much I love her, and to show my mamma that I am happy and will be happy, so she can be, he prayed.
~Back to Reality 4 Hours Later~
"Nurse, did we get any response from the patient?" the doctor asked, as Khushi sat on a chair by Arnav, holding his hand in hers, staring at his lifeless face.
"No Doctor." the nurse replied.
After looking at the reports the nurse provided from numerous tests, the doctor let out a deep sigh.
"Ms. Khushi, I'm sorry to say this but if we do not get any response from Mr. Raizada then'we'll know that he has gone into coma from the brain concussion.
Khushi's eyes snapped up looking at the doctor. She felt as if her life was consumed into total darkness, taking away every dream possible.
"What? No! he's going to wake up right now, you watch!" Khushi said hysterically.
"You're going to wake up right now Arnav, aren't you?" she pleaded to a lifeless Arnav.
"Please, Arnav, please wake up." She cried holding his hand close to her face.
"Ms. Khushi, please try to understand'"
"No, what you need to understand is that, Arnav can't leave me, no he can't do this to me, I'" she said now completely breaking down, "I should've realized that his anger was his was of emoting his love, that the less he said, the more he loved, I should've realized how his presence has changed my life,'I should've realized how much I love him." Khushi whispered to no one in particular, her voice breaking into a silence.
~1 month later~
Author's note: Arnav has gone into coma for the past month.
Khushi walked into Arnav's hospital room, automatically bringing a divine aura in the sterile room. The red churidar suit she wore made her skin complexion paler and exemplified the dark sunken eyes but, she wore it because it's Arnav's favorite color. Khushi became what you would call a walking corpse. The only time she would ever talk or try to smile, would be when she was sitting right next to Arnav, telling him how much she has to talk about, how everyone was, and mostly how much she missed him.
It became a ritual for her over the past month, to visit him each day, talk to him, even though he would not respond she knew he was listening.
She walked towards the window and opened the curtains, letting the sunlight penetrate the dark room. Gazing outside at absolutely nothing, she perceived the world as a strange, lonely place; somewhere she didn't belong, not without him.
Anjali went into a state of shock and is now well recovering, and she gave Khushi the responsibility of looking after her chote. Each day before coming, she would pray that this day Arnav would wake up and tell her that she was living a terrible nightmare and in reality he has always been by her. Even as the days progressed, she never stopped praying and believing that her Arnav was going to come back to her. Seeing him lying helpless, each and every time killed her inside. She tried so hard to put a strong front, but seeing him every time would make her break down and cry.
The soft breeze and chirps of birds brought her back from her thoughts, when she felt the lone tears involuntarily run down her delicate cheeks. Khushi wiped them off quickly not wanting to upset herself, then went to change the flowers she put next to his bedside.
Khushi looked at Arnav's peaceful face and couldn't help but smile, he looked like a little boy. At least the wrinkles on his forehead that used to form when he was in deep thought or anger wasn't visible for a while. She let out a soft laugh, but tears immediately stung her eyes as she thought about what she wouldn't give just to even see him like that, awake and alive.
She walked up to give him a kiss on his forehead but stopped herself knowing she had no right to. Instead she sat next to him and caressed his hair.
"Arnav, do you know it's my birthday today, and laad governor isn't even going to wish me." She said playfully. Her smile faltered and she said, "Arnav, Jiji asked me today what I would wish for this year when she clearly knew that I wouldn't tell her but this time I did'I told her that'" she said her voice breaking, "that I would sacrifice all my wishes for this one wish, you returning back to me, back to this world filled with people who love you, that need you." She said softly.
Khushi didn't know if miracles truly existed but from now on she would always believe in them.
As if on cue, God, had listened to her, had decided to fulfill her wishes.
The monitor started to beat irregularly as Arnavs' hands stirred.
Khushi stared in disbelief, not knowing what to do. Then she ran out the room calling the doctor and nurses to come in and check.
The doctors face broke into a smile as he said something Khushi until now dreamed of hearing, "Mr. Raizada is waking up."
