Chapter 97 – Haldi-Mehndi

10^th March 9:00 AM

Geet slid out of her bed later than usual at the instructions of her mom. She draped herself in the yellow saree which Maan had selected for her. It was a very light chiffon saree with white thread work on border. As it was a very simple saree it was light and easy to drape but at the same time it made Geet look very fresh and elegant…..just like morning sunrays. She left her hair open on one side and wore the diamond belly chain Maan had brought for her. She had minimal makeup making her look like a yellow flower.

She blushed thinking about Maan's words – "pili pili meri jaan meri zindagi mein roshni bhar degi"

She was putting combination of white and yellow bangles when her phone beeped. She smiled seeing the message and slid to backyard through the kitchen door.

Their stood her object of entire being clad in white churidaar – kurta. Geet smiled and for no reason just went and hugged him tight. She was feeling incredibly shy and her cheeks were red in color.

Maan made her stand a little apart from himself as he gazed at her intently.

"Bahut sundar lag rahi ho Mishti….bilkul is flower ki tarah" Saying this Maan gave her a yellow lily. It was blooming fully and its long leaves were drooping revealing the dark yellow-brown core.

Maan slid his hand in her hair and placed the flower there taking out the pin from his kurta pocket.

Geet looked at him with all the love as he traced her face with his hand. Finally he bent and brushed her lips with his – "Bas ek din aur Jaan….phir tum humesha humesha ke liye meri ho jaogi…..but how am I suppose to stay away from you for even one day…hmmm"

Geet smiled against his lips – "Yeh ek din ki doori ke baad main humesha aapke paas rahoongi….isliye koi badmaashi nahi Maan….main yeh rasamein nibhana cahti hoon"

Maan just took her lips as an answer and kissed her passionately.

Maan – "You look like light of my life….and I promise I will do whatever you desire….so no Badmaashi….lekin apna khayal rakhna….tum meri jaan ho"

Geet hugged him again not able to face his loving gaze.

Maan –"I won't be able to see you after this so please take lots of photographs…hmmm"

Geet held on to him tight as tears welled up in her eyes - "Maan….pata hai mujhe yakeen hi nahi ho raha ki woh din aa gaya hai….it all feels like a dream…kal ki raat bhi….kisi sapne se kam nahi thi….aur aage ke din soch soch kar lagta hai jaise main ek lamba sa khwaab dekh rahi hoon….sabse haseen khwab"

Maan parted and wiped her tear away – "Main yahi cahta hoon Geet….tumhara koi bhi sapna adhoora na reh jai….mujhse kuch nahi chupana….kyonki main cahta hoon ki har sach sapne jaisa ho aur har sapna sach"

Geet gazed at him and they had intense eye lock. They parted when they heard Raj behind them – "Uhhh…..Uhhh"

Raj was on phone – "Haan mil gaya hai Rishab…yahin par hai….I will send him in 15 minutes"

Raj kept the phone down – "Janaab, ghar par sab dhoond rahe hai aapko for Haldi….and you are having romance here hmmm"

Maan blushed slightly – "Nahin Bade Pa…woh bas…aise hi…Geet se milne aaya tha…main chalta hoon ab"

Saying this Maan started to leave but Raj stopped him– "Koi jaldi nahi hai…tum 15 minutes mein Geet ke saath Haveli aa jao…hum sab jaa rahe hain"

Geet - "Main bhi dad"

Raj – "Haan beta…kangna bandhne ke baad you guys will not be able to meet till tomorrow….so you also come and put haldi on him…after that we will come back to mansion."

Geet blushed slightly at thought of putting Haldi on Maan. Raj chuckled and left them giving them some privacy.

Sometime later, Maan reached Haveli with Geet. Everyone was giggling at their indiscretion. Juhi made Maan sit on a patla (wooden stool) and Annie got bowl with haldi on it. As per rasam, Juhi and Annie put the haldi first on his cheeks. Then Juhi turned and asked Geet to put haldi.

Geet was feeling very shy and just took a little bit on her finger and smeared it on Maan's cheek. Annie smiled – "Yeh kya hai bhabhi….birthday par cake lagaya tha bhul gayi ho….waise lagao na"

Geet blushed as Annie took her hand and pushed it in haldi bowl. Maan's eyes twinkled as she took quite a bit and grazed it across his cheek feeling his stubble on her palm. As her palm reached his lips, Maan placed a very light kiss which only she could feel. Geet shuddered and removed her hand blushing hard.

Then Nisha, Raj, Rishab, Rahul and Pari too did the honors along with other family members. Later Annie came with a kangna in a thaal. Nisha escorted Geet out as bride and groom should not see each other after kangna is tied. Geet looked once back to see him gazing at her with all the love and a new emotion….emotion of intezaar.

Annie tied the kangna tight and then haldi was given to Raj to take it to Mansion.

In a similar fashion, Geet's haldi and kangna was done too but Maan did not come. After haldi, panditji helped Raj in writing a lagan patrika. (Lagan Patrika is a formal invitation sent to groom from bride's side to come on the wedding. After Lagan Patrika is written, bride does not leave her house till she is ready to go to venue of marriage.)

Raj and Rahul then took the lagan patrika to KH and gave it Rishab and Maan.

10^th March 5:00 PM

Whole house reverberated with sounds of dholak as mehndi was finally stirred and prepared. Nisha took the packet from thal which Juhi had given at the time of engagement and added it in the mix as well.

Geet wore orange salwar suit and looked quite hot. She asked Pari to take pictures as she knew Maan will like to see them later.

Geet's hands were adorned till her elbows with intricate design. There was quite an argument where to put Maan's name but Geet said her preference. Though many did not agree but it was her day and she got it the way she wanted.

Then Pari helped her removing her salwar and her legs were adorned as well to middle of calf. Though she had intricate design on her calf but the foot itself had a simple dot in the middle with a line bordering her feet.

It was quite late when her mehndi dried enough for her to check her phone. She smiled seeing missed call and SMS from Maan which read "I won't disturb you jaan but missing you….yeh ek din ka intezaar bhi bahut lamba lag raha hai…..but at the same time I am excited with anticipation of seeing you as my bride….sleep tight Mishti….Love you"

Nisha came with a bowl of lemon and sugar paste and applied it again on her hands and legs. "Ab tu so jaa aur koi jaldi nahin hai kal uthne ki….take ample rest as you won't be able to sleep tomorrow"

Geet slowly drifted into sleep for the last time as an unmarried girl knowing that from tomorrow her love's arm will be always there to embrace her.
