Chapter 33: Back home

I can let myself die,

But I can't see it through you,

I can endure pain,

But not when you feel it too.

Leaving will break me

A broken heart will still beat,

Because while I flee,

There is hope for you.

---------------

PRESENT:

Home.

That is what Geet felt as she walked out into the airport. No matter how much time she spent in London or any other place, this would always be her home. She was born here and she had become who she was here.

She saw the familiar stores, the familiar accent over speaking through the loudspeaker and not to mention the Aussie soaps playing on the televisions. The people here were her people, the place belonged to her and her heart recognised it in that instant.

Maan and Meliara were each on either side of her, chatting away with each other, oblivious to the flight of emotions she was facing.

Geet looked at them, wondering how she was going to make Maan stop following her. It was easy when she had hated him because then she could hurt him. But with the anger gone, she couldn't say anything to his face.

Yet she knew that she wasn't good for him. He deserved so much more than her.

"Mama I want M&Ms!" Meliara started to demand with another one of her trademark pouts. She was usually not demanding but seeing that Maan was here, Mel's clever mind knew that her mother wouldn't put up a big fight.

"Princess, why are you asking your evil mother when your Knight it here." Maan winked at Mel while grabbing her hand to walk her to one of the duty free stores before Geet could protest.

Mel would usually defend her mother, but she decided that it could wait after she got her chocolate. She remembered her manners once Maan handed it to her. "Thanks Knight!"

"Meliara, there will be no more chocolates for today. Remember that!" Geet sternly reminded her. "And offer some to Maan."

"One for Maan and one for Mel." Greedy Mel just gave one to Maan, while keeping the bag to herself. "We are M&Ms! You can be the dumb yellow one and I'll the smart red one!"

Geet couldn't help but snigger at the confused look on Maan's face, who had no idea what Meliara was talking about apart from the fact she had called him dumb. "Princess are you calling me dumb?"

"No!" Mel quickly amended. "But I can't be the dumb one! Mel is smart"

How could Maan argue with logic like that?

He turned to Geet and mumbled, "What have you created?" Geet just shook her head in amusement.

Reaching the immigration counter, they quickly showed their passports. Mel again flashed her toothless smile, garnering grins from otherwise stern immigration officers.

"It's been a while since you've been here." The guy said to Geet as he looked through her passport. "Welcome home."

Yes, I am back home.

----------------------------

Geet tried to grab a taxi, ready to go to the Landon hotel where she had a room booked. She tried to ignore Maan, who was standing next to her. But Mel on the other had no reason to ignore him.

"Mama, everyone here talks like you!" Mel said in amazement. Growing up in London she had always found her mother's Australian accent amusing. Even Maan spoke like Mel (British accent) but here it seemed everyone was like her mother. "Why?"

"Honey this is where your mom grew up and everyone here has what we call an Aussie accent." Maan explained.

"What's an ak-scent?" Mel asked in confusion.

Before Maan could go on to explain, Geet had hailed a taxi. He quickly grabbed their suitcases, putting it in the trunk.

"What are you doing Maan?" Geet asked in a tired but confused voice. "Why are you putting your stuff in this taxi?"

"Because I am going with you." He explained as if she was brain dead.

"No you are not. I have a booking for the Landon and it's for only one room." She retorted.

"Correction, you had a booking for the Landon. I cancelled it and now we are going to the Windle." He gave a confident smirk.

Geet spluttered in anger. "How? What?"

"Well I own both the hotels, so it was quite easy." He smoothly took her carry on from her hand and put it in the car. "Also I have a soft spot for the Windle. It was the place where I experienced bliss." He came closer to her, till they were scant inches apart. "And I know you love that place as well." He murmured to her.

Geet closed her eyes, willing the images of their first night to disappear. But he and the images were both persistent. She could feel his fingers grazing her hand, the gentle touch causing tremors through her body.

"Don't you remember Geet?" He whispered against her ear.

Geet's eyes flung open, realising that his lips where just a breath away from his. She saw the storm of passion in his eyes and almost involuntarily she started to close the distance.

"Are you telling a secret to Mom?" Mel's voice cut across them. "I want to hear the secret as well!"

Maan, the shameless man couldn't help but chuckle at Mel's innocent questions. She reminded him of Geet, with her blunt and open manner. "Yes Geet, tell Mel the secret."

Geet glared at Maan, wanting to strangle him for putting her in an awkward situation. But luckily she was saved by the taxi driver who told them to get into the cab instead of standing outside.

However Maan could hear her mumble about shameless men.

-----------------------------------------

Virender Singh Khurana was fuming as he sat on his table in his office. IT wasn't Khurana Enterprise, but still it was his company. It was late in the evening, with most of the staff having left the building already but Virender was too busy with his thoughts of revenge and anger.

At the moment he was angry because his mother had called and told him that his presence was no longer required, because Dev's wedding to Naintara had been cancelled. While Virender couldn't care less about his son, it was a missed opportunity for finding out what was happening with Maan.

He also needed to know who was behind his attack in the hotel room. Nothing had shocked him more because Virender was not a man used to being attacked, and that too by women.

I'll destroy those who threaten me!

But these thoughts were interrupted by the electricity suddenly going out. A sense of Deja vu hit him as he recalled the hotel scene. He stood up ready to leave the room but was pushed back down onto his seat.

"Hi there Virender." Sanji cackled in glee. "Aren't you delighted to meet us again?" She was sitting on his table with her stiletto heels pressed right against his throat.

"How dare you break into my office!" He screamed.

"Oh what a sulk!" Aash's cynical voice cut across. "Stupid fool, I can break into your house, room or office anytime I want." She gave a light slap on his face. "Aren't you all excited in anticipation? Anytime or anyplace, when you least expect it, I'll be there." The threat caused shivers down his spine.

"Please, the old man is probably getting off on this." Amru sounded disgusted.

"You sick bas***d." Sanji said in amusement but her shoe pressed harder against his throat to choke him. "Let's see how purple your face can go."

"The perv is doing it with his secretory." Amru announced while looking through his folders. "You really do have a thing for young women. But I am more surprised that you can still get it up." She taunted.

"What do we have here." Aash was delighted in her usual detached manner. In her hand she held Virender's personal diary."It seems like someone was sloppy enough to write down all the details of his little adventures. Tsk tsk, rookie mistake."

"Well our job here is done then." Amru announced.

"But we will be back." Aash whispered into his ear. She started to tie his hands to the chair while Amru tied his legs.

"Done."

"Bye." Sanji gleefully told him before grinding her stiletto against his crotch, not caring an inch that Virender screamed out in pain. "Enjoy."

And like that they left.

It took over an hour for someone to come and untie Virender. He was enraged by what had happened but more so he was fearful. None of the CCTV cameras showed the women coming in or getting out. Neither did anyone report seeing them. It was almost as if they were phantoms coming at will.

The main issue was that he had no idea what they wanted from him for if he did he could have bargained with them or threatened them. Instead he was left with their taunts and threats.

Who sent them after me?

================

Vicky was delighted as he held Virender's diary. His devils had done their magic and had managed to get him what he needed. Slowly he was building up his weapons against his father and then it would be possible to annihilate the despicable man.

IT was time for step two of the plan, as his brother had told him to do, so it was time for help from his angel instead.

"Hello, Detective Angie speaking." She sounded epitome of professionalism.

"Hey Angie, it's Vicky."

Vicky had known Angie for a while now. She had helped him to get out of few scrapes in the past and was his ally outside of his darker dealings. While she didn't know the extent of his job, she had a basic understanding that he worked outside the law at moments.

But Vicky's respect for her came from the fact that she was incorruptible. Just like his devils, she had her own past that made her what she was today.

It always amused him that instead of him protecting these women, they were the ones who aided him. Yet Vicky had never underestimated women like his father had.

"Vicky!" Angie sounded happy but as always was suspicious. "What did you do now? Do I need to bail you out?"

"Always assuming the worst." He chuckled but then became serious. "This is about my father."

Angie knew only knew small details about Virender but what she knew hadn't left a good impression. So going back into her detective mode, she attuned to the seriousness of Vicky's call. "I am all ears."

--------------------------------

Geet had a bittersweet smile on her face as she stood in the foyer of Windle. It is impossible not to remember that day while standing here. This is the place where I took the step that changed my life but also where it all ended.

Taking a deep breath, she turned around to give Maan a piece of her mind and convince him to reconfirm their booking for Landon.

"Vicky make sure to keep me updated at all times." Maan demanded over the phone. "I want to make sure that everything goes according to plan." With that he cut the call.

Geet was surprised as well as curious to what Maan was talking about. "What happened?" She asked in concern.

"Nothing." He pasted a smile on his face, which wasn't difficult considering that she was with him. "Let's go to our suite."

"What do you mean our suite?" Geet asked with suspicion. She didn't like the smirk on Maan's face.

"Honey I mean exactly that. It's our suite." With no further ado, he took her hand and dragged the two to the elevator.

================

It was a beautiful suite, Geet couldn't argue with that. There were three different bedrooms as well as a dining and media room in the centre. It was decadent in its glamour; the chandelier glinted light off every corner of the room, the carpet was lush under her feet and the furniture looked too grand to use. As a surgeon Geet was well off and rich, but Maan was in another league. The disparity hit her at this moment.

Mel was delighted. This trip was turning out to be a great adventure for her. "It's so pretty." She squealed.

Laughing at her exuberance, Maan decided to give her a tour. He started with one of the bedrooms. It was done in tones of white and cream, creating a peaceful vibe. It was the sort of room that wasn't suited for hotels, for it was so personal.

"This is your Mum's room." Maan explained to Mel. Geet tried to tell herself that she was glad that he had made sure she had her own room. It wouldn't do to have Mel question them about where everyone is sleeping.

He then took them to another room, done in black and white. It was masculine and dominating, yet Geet knew that it wasn't the master bedroom, for he had given it to her.

The next room was Mel's. Maan was waiting for Mel's reaction. "This darling is your room."

It was a gorgeous girl's room, perfect for Mel who fell in love with it. "Is this mine?" She jumped in excitement.

"Yes, it's yours." Maan picked her up and hugged her.

"I love you Knight!" Mel gave a sloppy kiss on Maan's cheek.

And for the first time Maan Singh Khurana blushed. He couldn't explain why he felt so attached to Mel but it was so easy for him to care for her. "And you just tell me what you need. Knight will make sure his princess is happy."

Geet's heart was touched by the bonding between the two. But with the pleasure of seeing two of the most important people in her life connect there was pain in imagining what could have been. The last time she had felt that way it had angered her beyond control but this time her mind was devastated with lost chances.

Geet don't let this carry you away. And don't let Mel get too attached to Maan.

"Mel, say thanks." She sternly told Mel. "We don't take things from others without being grateful and definitely don't ask for things."

Maan was hurt by Geet's words but didn't let it show. "It's quite late. Time to go to sleep."

----------------------------

PAST:

Geet could hear her father's words ring in her ears. She had wanted to help Lily and Rahul, yet she had ended up making the whole situation worse.

"Geet how are you doing?" Lily asked anxiously as she sat next to Geet in the car. She knew that with Geet's preeclampsia, there was a risk for major complications. She started to fire away the important questions. "Do you have a headache? Any shoulder, abdominal or any pain at all?"

"I'..I don't know." Geet gulped.

"Did you take your blood pressure tablet?" Lily demanded.

"I was going to take them later on." Geet mumbled.

"Don't worry, we'll reach the hospital soon." Rahul reassured her. "You just stay calm, you know that stress isn't good for you."

Geet clasped onto Lily's hand as she started to feel nauseous. "I am sorry." She mumbled. She didn't even know what she was sorry for, but she felt the need to apologise.

"Don't be idiotic." Lily reprimanded. "Listen to Rahul and don't stress."

"Yes Geetu, we are here with you." He comforted her. "We love-"

But those were the last words he said before out of nowhere a truck came and hit their car.

--------------------------------

PRESENT:

"BHAI!" Geet woke up screaming. Her heart was racing as that devastating moment played in her mind.

She could visualise her brothers lifeless eyes. Lily's bloody but anxious eyes. The pain in her tummy.

"Geet!" Maan was there next to her in her bed. "It's okay, it was just a dream."

If only it was just a dream. She thought through her grief. "No, it isn't just a dream. It's my reality."

But Maan wasn't going to let her drown in her sorrow. He clasped her right against him, so that she was lying over him. "But it isn't your present reality. You are here at the moment Geet, in this room."

"My baby, I lost our baby Iman." Geet murmured. Maan noticed that there were no tears in her eyes. The cold and lost look in them showed him that her grief was beyond tears or dramatics. It was so deep that it almost couldn't be expressed in words or signs.

"Our baby is in a better place." HE reassured her even through his own pain. "HE will never experience anymore pain."

"IT's all my fault." She closed her eyes in pain.

"No it isn't!" Maan vehemently argued. "Of all people you are not to blame."

Realising where she was and that he was with her, Geet suddenly pulled away from Maan. "What are you doing in this room? Why aren't you in your own one?" She demanded.

"Where else would I be, if not with my Belle?" He brushed his hands across her face before grasping her nape to bring her closer. "Who else would I be with, if not you?"

And then he let his lips consume her.

So this is basically the third segment of the story...and will be much quicker. The first was Iman and Belle's story, second was Geet's anger and now the reconcilliation.
