A Maaneet Tale
Reliving Memories
Muskaan ran into the bedroom after coming back from school, dragging me along with her. She was so desperate to read the next part of the story, she did her homework in the car.
"Dear, aren't you hungry? I'll make you din --"
Muskaan: "No. Story first. It's Saturday tomorrow. So we have lots of time!" she said and sat down on a chair.
I remained standing, fiddling with my dubatta.
Muskaan: "Mummy!" she exclaimed, eager for me to just sit down and start reading already.
When I didn't respond to her, she got up and forcefully sat me down before sitting down herself. She crossed her legs and made herself comfortable.
I stared blankly at the diary in my hands.
Muskaan: "Start, mummy" she said
After a few seconds of staring at my diary, I finally spoke.
"May... Maybe this 'story' is too mature for you" I said
Muskaan: "I don't care. I want to know about Daddy" she said and crossed her arms, indicating that this discussion was over and I had to start reading.
"Okay, would you like some juice or chocolates?" I asked, trying to change the subject so she could focus on her favourite things which were obviously juice and chocolates.
My attempt to change the subject failed.
Muskaan shook her head and opened the diary for me, turning to the page where the bookmark was placed. She pointed to the page, urging me to start reading.

And then I fell into someone's arms.
I seemed to black out, but what seemed like a few seconds later my vision slowly returned. I looked up to a face that appeared blurry at first, but turned clear after blinking a few times.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice being solid, and firm with a hint of worry in it.
I was in the man's arms and for some reason, I wanted to just close my eyes and fall asleep in them.
The extremely handsome man slowly lead me to a bench and we both sat down. He held a bottle of water up to my mouth, and realizing my extremely dry throat I started to drink, gulping down more than half the water.
After that, was when I realized I had done a terrible mistake.
I drank water, and he broke my fast.
My heart instantly started pounding and thousands of questions had started to buzz through my mind like a train fast on a railway track.
He broke my fast, what does this mean? Normally a married woman would break her fast like that. Does this mean anything? Is my fast actually broken? Have I committed a sin?
"Baabaji!" I exclaimed and threw my hands to my head, feeling extremely guilty.
"What?" the guy said who was sitting beside me. I was feeling so guilty, angry, and upset I didn't even bother to look at the guy who saved me, properly.
"Y-You broke my fast. I was fasting! How can you do this? Oh my Goodness" I pulled slightly on my hair and started fiddling with my dubatta.
"So your saying you didn't want me to save you?" his voice which was full of worry turned to sharp anger.
"No, I mean yes! I mean no but, I mean YES. UGH!" I said and then took a deep breath, thinking of the words that I should say properly this time.
"I meant I wanted to be saved but I didn't want you to break my fast. This is utterly wrong. What you've just done" I exclaimed
"So? I don't believe in this fasting crap either. Whatever, if you can't thank me for saving you then I'm leaving" he said and stood up.
I stood up along with him and clenched my teeth. I wanted to see this person's face but the guy's face was obscured since his back was facing me.
"Doesn't mean that I don't believe in fasting" I answered back.
After a few seconds of silence, the guy slowly turned around. Anger fully evident on his face. His jaw was clenched tightly, but I couldn't help but admit he was unbelievably sexy.
I gulped, and took a step back away from him.
"Do you even have the slightest clue of who I am?!" he yelled, attracting the attention of other woman who were here to attend the veneration. I could feel my cheeks go red.
Everybody whispered and murmered, pointing at me or looking at me in disgust. I hadn't done anything wrong had I?
"How dare you back answer me? How..." he said between clenched teeth, taking a step closer to me. I took a step back.
"How... How am I meant to know who you are? Do you think your God or something?" I said confidently. The people around us gasped in shock.
"Prince. Maan. Singh. Khurana. Get that name clear in your thick head" he said
I stared at him in utter shock and disbelief.
Maan: "What? Cat got your tongue now?" he said and smirked
Well to be completely honest, he DID look like a prince. And being honest again, he was utterly, shockingly, and stunningly gorgeous.
Especially when he was angry.
And that killer smirk nearly melted me on the spot.
Even the women around me sighed dreamily.
"Well thanks, PRINCE" I spat and grabbed my platter and headed further towards the temple, wishing at the same time I hadn't turned so red. Wishing he hadn't saved me. Wishing he hadn't embarrassed me in front of so many people. And wishing he wasn't so unbelievably hot.

Obviously, I cut out some sentences and words like "gorgeous" and "killer smirk" and "melted me on the spot" and "unbelievably hot". You know? Because my daughter was only six years old and I didn't want her knowing these things.
Muskaan: "Wow, that was interesting. Keep going!" she urged
"Dinner first. I promise you a chapter, after"
Precap: "What are YOU doing here?!" said Maan and Geet in unison.
