A Maaneet Tale

Accused

06 August 2004

The next morning, I woke up by someone calling my name.

"Geet!!" the person said in irritation and I opened my eyes, my vision blurry for a second. I blinked twice and focused on the person's face.

Maan.

Instantly, I jolted up in bed and stood up. I glanced at the time and realized it was 8:30am.

Maan: "I've been calling you out for the past 10 minutes. For a second I thought you were dead" he said sarcastically

I put a hand to my neck and quickly grabbed my dubatta which was somehow on the floor. Maan coughed and looked away.

"Sorry... I didn't realize I slept in" I looked down at my feet and scolded myself in my head and wished I wasn't so irresponsible. Maan had to go to office, and I also had to make breakfast.

I looked back up at Maan and his gaze had softened and for a second I thought he was going to apologize but Maan being the Prince and all returns back to his trance.

Maan: "Make toast and egg for breakfast and make Sophia her low calorie cereal. I also want black coffee with breakfast." he said and I nodded like an obediant child.

Maan walked off.

Quickly, I freshed up and ran to the kitchen. The Queen stared at me in horror as I ran past her. I quickly said sorry as I ran past.

I got out the toaster and bread and popped the bread in the toaster. Then I got a pan and cracked some eggs and at the same time I grabbed a bowl and searched for Sophia's 'low calorie' cereal. Multitasking, I put in her cereal in the bowl and then threw some milk in, flipping the egg over with my other hand and within' minutes, everything was ready.

I put in the toast, eggs, and Sophia's bowl of cereal in a tray and jogged my way over to the dining room; being careful not to spill anything. I set the breakfast down on the table.

The Royals' looked at me in surprise.

Queen: "That was... Quick" she said

King: "Very quick" he agreed

Sophia wrinkled her nose.

Maan: "You forgot my --"

"Black Coffee. I'll be back in a jiffy" I said and ran off to the kitchen. I made the coffee, and carried it to the dining room carefully.

"I wonder how Maan drinks this bitter coffee" I wondered in my head as I set it down in front of Maan. He was just about to take a sip when his phone rang. He looked at the Caller ID and stood up.

Maan: "Send the coffee in my room" he ordered and excused himself before marching upstairs to his bedroom. I was about to follow him when the Queen called out for me.

Queen: "Dear, could you make me some tea?" she asked

"Sure thing" I said and wondered what to do first. Give Maan his coffee or make the Queen tea?

I'll make the Queen tea. I did not want to displease her.

So I ran off to the kitchen and started to make tea. 7 minutes later, I carried the tea to the living room where the Queen was sat.

Queen: "Thank you"

"Your welcome, Your Majesty" I said politely and then ran off to the dining table to retrieve the coffee.

It wasn't that cold, thankfully. So I took the coffee to Maan's room, only to find he wasn't there.

I sighed.

"Maan" I called out and looked around the room while setting the mug on the table.

I turned around to search for him only to bump right into his solid, hard chest. Somehow, I lost my footing and I knew I was going to fall. I closed my eyes tight and prepared for pain.

Except there was no pain.

His warm hand was around my waist, that kept me from falling. His eyes. His so, beautiful; brown eyes felt like they were piercing right through my soul. He had me hypnotized. I had to look back into them.

God, he was gorgeous.

But then I saw his jaw clench together. He took me by my shoulders and steadied me on my feet, pulling me slightly away from him.

Maan: "I asked for coffee ten minutes ago" his eyes returned back to his normal, angry ones.

"Sorry. It's still hot"

Maan: "Damn right you're hot" he mumbled

I was taken aback.

"Excuse me?" I stepped slightly backwards and looked around myself conciously. Did he really just say what I think he said?

Maan: "I said, damn right it better be hot" he said clearly this time, staring at me as if I was stupid.

"Oh, okay" I said, disappointed. I must be imagining things.

Maan: "What did you think I said?" he asked, a smirk slowly forming on his lips. He took a step closer to me.

"N-Nothing. Coffee?" I said sweetly, holding the warm mug in my hands in front of him.

Maan's smirk almost turned to a genuine smile. Almost.

But it went away just as quick as it came.

Maan: "Thank you, finally" he said and quickly gulped the coffee down before fixing his tie. He left without saying goodbye.

Gardening was next.

I stepped out in the huge garden which could fit 100 hotel rooms in. There was a humangous pool, and lots of greenery and beautiful flowers. Doves flew around me as I walked around with my gardening scissors and my shovel; wondering where to start first.

Finally, I chose a spot to start with and was about to start when I heard voices. It was coming from a distance.

Quietly, I walked closer to where the voice was coming from. What I heard shocked me.

Sophia: "... And then i'm going to take over the palace. Have my lap filled with millions of money, and be the Princess. After that, i'll just leave Maan and come to you, sweetheart" she cooed. I froze.

"You better" came out a deep voice.

Sophia: "Of course I will, Dev" she said

His name was Dev.

My heart was thudding loudly, and I didn't know what to do. Maan did not be deserved to be treated this way. No matter how angry, strict, annoying he was; No matter how much of a Dusht Dhanav, he didn't deserve this. Nobody did.

I was going to tell him as soon as he came home.

Dev: "I should go now, before somebody see's us" he said and I quickly and quietly hid behind a bushy plant.
