Part 9:

Shilpa Sharma looked at him confused and thought if she had given that impression by her words and answered, "Shaadi mein nahi jaana hai...woh Nupur ke Bauji, uski shaadi karna chahte hain...woh ussi liye Morena wapas gayi hai" she said casually as she was busy putting neatly ironed clothes in hangers.

Mayank felt something which can by no means be termed good at all. He replied rather coldly, "Oh okay...toh woh Mumbai sirf kuch hi dino ke liye aayi thi...waise bhi yahaan akele rehna uske bas ki baat nahi hai"

Shilpa Sharma looked at him as if he was offending her and replied, "Usse yeh shaadi nahi karni hai...bas uske Bauji...khair bahut parehsan lag rahi thi"

Mayank felt bad for her, with some ray of hope now he asked, "Matlab forced marriage?"

Shilpa Sharma said thoughtfully, "Shayad...kya pata?"

Mayank now generalised his words, "Yeh toh bura hai...hamare yahaan ke rural areas kabhi nahi sudharne wale...koi kuch karna chahe...aage badhna chahe toh usse rokne ke 1000 reasons hote hain..." he spoke in a little anger.

Shilpa Sharma affirmed his words, "I agree Beta, I hope uski problem solve ho jaaye...kissi tarah ke bandhan mein rehne wali ladki nahi lagti woh...I am sure woh kuch na kuch toh karegi hi sab theek karne ke liye"

Mayank hoped her words to come true and knew something wrong was brewing in him.

Shilpa Sharma was busy cutting vegetables after she had attended Nupur's call again today and laughed a bit at Nupur's tactics when Mayank came from office and inquired about the interesting joke which made his Ma laugh so.

Shilpa Sharma replied looking at him, "Kuch nahi Beta...woh Nupur...ek dum filmy hai...aaj woh karke aayi hai Mumbai wapas...kya bataaun "and again shaked her head laughing.

Mayank laughed along with her and asked, "Kyun ab aisa kya kar diya usne?...woh wapas aa gayi?" he almost smiled wide which amazed Shilpa Sharma a little as she noticed it feeling strange.

Mayank immediaately asked not at all unhappily but astounded, "Yahaan?"

Shilpa Sharma replied inspite of noticing his reaction, "Haan...yahaan...ab tum usse aur apne strict behaviour se pareshaan mat karna...agar tumhe chahiye toh tum apne room mein jaa kar koi achchi si book padh lena...waise hi woh pareshan ho kar aayi hai...besides yeh baatein office mein sabko bataana bhi theek nahi naa...10 logon ki 10 thinking hoti hai, isliye maine usse yahin bula liya..."

Mayank stayed quiet without replying. It was as if he was asked to leave in Nupur's presence and he didn't exactly want to do that. He scolded himself for thinking about her so. Okay he liked her a little...Fine he liked her a little more than little...but that doesn't mean he was supposed to be so unlike him and be interested in this gossiping of hers. Alright, it wasn't gossip but her life...but that still didn't mean that he was supposed to know every detail of her personal life. As his Ma said, 10 people meant 10 ways of thinking. He didn't want to judge her private life either, but somehow knew that Nupur had it in her to make things interesting and so he was - interested. He patiently waited for her to come by, he couldn't help that.

The bell rang and Mayank headed towards his room with an expression which said, "he-was-asked-to-do-it-with-no-other-option".

Nupur came in and hugged Shilpa Sharma with a wide smile on her face and said, "Aunty kaisi ho aap?" her voice was so loud and clear that Mayank could hear every word she spoke excitedly. Looking around she asked, "Mayank...kahaan hai...kya usne office walon ko abhi tak darra kar office chalu rakha hai?" and laughed at her own joke.

Mayank was startled to hear about him in her very next sentence. Fine he liked her and maybe had had a what all called an infactuation for her, but hadn't it already been so long they had not even met or talked or even seen each other that he must have been over all this now already. Wasn't that what happened with normal people, of course he was normal enough to feel all the attraction and excitement for someone. The only difference in his case was that it had happened to him for the very first time and he already disliked its complexities.

Shilpa Sharma replied plainly, "Nahi beta, woh ghar par hi hai...bas apne kamre mein koi book padh raha hai."

Nupur was so excited today that if she would have come across him, she would have even hugged him. He was a distinct personality for her but she had sensed it that he was a good guy with all the prudence to have the rarest cold attitude to all.
When she had been to her home town, she had missed the life that she was leading her, the independant one. The problems and then overcoming them, the control on her own life, the people here who were all so individualistic, and beautiful like her tenants, her colleagues i.e., her new friends in her office, the deadlines of time and work, the hawkers over here, likeliness of sales and shopping around almost always, even Mayank, who was her ultimate saviour everytime she got stuck.

She sensed he would not have wanted her home again just like the first time he didn't like it. She wondered then how had he managed once to share a smile with her the other day and still despised her presence.

Ignoring the thoughts about him which brought an unwanted feeling with it, she replied back, "Achcha"

Shilpa Sharma dragged her to sit on the couch and sat across from her on the adjacent one and asked, "Achcha woh sab chodo...aur ab mujhe baaki sab batao...detail mein...aur haan yeh bhi batana kay tum sahi thi ya tumhare Bauji...sach sach" with a strict look on her face and Nupur got the clue where did Mayank's strictness come from after all.

She took a glass of water, pouring in it from a jug placed on the table top and started with her own story...
