Part 3
Dadi came and saw Geet in the room. She was looking at their wedding album.
Geet: "Yeh kya ho gaya Maan? Kyun kiya aapne aisa Babaji? Hum to hamari duniya main khush the na? To phir achanak aisa? Main aur yeh dooriyaan nahi bardaasht kar sakti. Nahi reh sakti geet aapke bagair. Agar yahi mer isaza hai to main mar jaoongi."
As soon as she said that; she was slapped by Dadima.
Dadima: "Yeh kya keh rahi hai aap? Aapko andaza bhi hai aap kya keh rahi thi? Aisa mat kijye hamare saath geet bete. Pehle hi Babaji ne humse Maan ko cheen liya hai; aur aap aisi baatein kar rahin hai. Aap jaanti hai na aap hamari beti hai. Mana ki aapko iss waqt bahut takleef hai par aapni Dadima ke khatir aise anap shanap baateing mat kijiye."
Saying this Dadima collapsed at her feet. She was loosing her senses. She was in pain at the loss she had suffered; and the potential loss she had seen.
Geet understood that her one sentence has left Dadima in deep pain; misery and unknown amount of hurt.
She helped Dadima get up and led her to the bed. She made her sleep and covered her with a blanket. She sat next to her; gently caressing Dadima's forehead.
Geet: "Dadima mujhe maaf kijiye. Par ab mujhse yeh doori nahi bardasht hoti. Main jaanti hoon ki aapko meri aur mujhe aapki zaroorat hai. Aur main vaada karti hoon ki main aisa koi kadam nahi uthaongi jise aapko takleef ho. Ab aap thoda aaram kijiyega. Waise bhi peechle kuch dinon se aapne aapna khyaal nahi rakha hai. Sirf meri chinta karti hai aap? Aur agar aapne abhi aaram nahi kiya to main keh deti hoon main chali jaoongi."
Geet said with a naughtiness in her eyes. She was actually trying to threaten Dadima.
Dadima: "Nahi hum aaram kar rahe hai."
The love Geet had for Dadima; was visible as Dadima was soon in deep slumber.
Geet went out in the outhouse. It was her Maayka. It was her house. Though she lived in Khurana mansion; she belonged here. Her love journey had started from this house. She remembered their first fight. The first time she had made paranthas for him. The first time he had tied the Dori of her dress. The first time when he came here as the Groom. And she was his Dulhan. And then their wedding. Their journey was worth the pain and anguish both went through. The trials and tribulations both underwent to be with each other till death does them apart.
Every time she felt low; she came here. Many instances were their even after marriage that Geet came here. She could actually keep herself in outside the situation and analyze it. This house would give her strength. This house gave her courage; gave her optimism. After all it was her Maayka.
She sat their looking at their wedding photos; the album copy which is always kept in her room. She had made Maan run to the shop the very second night of wedding to get another copy. How frustrated was Maan? But he kept her promise. And she admired him all the more because of the fact that he always managed to surprise her. In her life never ever kept her wishes; her happiness above theirs; but it was Maan who did that. Maan was the one person who mattered the most to her. And for him it was as if the world began with Geet and ended on her. Geet was the only person he loved the most! She remembered him saying;
Maan: "Geet meri zindagi main sirf do hi auratien hai jo maine rakhti hai. Tum aur Dadima. Agar dadima meri kamzori hai; Geet to tum merin taakad ho. Aur agar ek din mujhe kuch ho jaata hai to tum mujhse vaada karna ki tum Dadima ka khyaal rakhogi. Mera vaada yaad rakhogi na Geet?"
Geet had nodded at his simple request. How can she not take care of Dadima. She was more than a mother in law. She was Geet's mother. She was the woman who accepted Geet in the Khurana Khaadaan.
While she was still looking at the photo; she came across the Haldi photo. She recalled Maan sneaking into her room and she had hit him thinking he was a thief. How much had they bickered and then he had applied the Haldi. She was in tears. The one man whom she considered family; doesn't memorize her. He doesn't even know that I am his wife.
And then she suddenly felt someone tugging her arm and it was Maan who was standing in front of her. A thick lump was formed in her throat.
Maan : "Geet yeh sab kya hain? Tum meri biwin nahin ho sakti. Maan Singh Khurana aise hi kisi ladki ke saath shaadi nahi kar sakta. Bolo Geet kiske kehne par kiya tumne yeh sab? Kaun hain jo tumse yeh karwa raha hai."
"Main aise bahut ladkiyon ko jaanta hoon jo paiso ke liya kuch bhi kar sakti hai. Par tum to shaadi shuda hokar bhi? Kyun apmaan kar rahi ho apne suhaag ka?"
Geet was left in tears because of his accusations. I did everything for money? How can you be so ruthless Maan? How can you forget Geet?
Geet: "Bas kijiye Maan Singh Khurana; jabse aaye ho tabse main kuch nahin keh rahi hoon iska matlab yeh nahi ki aap kuch bhi bole. Aur ek aur baat aapne khud hi aapke suhaag ka aapmaan kiya hai. Mere suhaag ka aapmaan kiya hai. Aur mere suhaag aap khud hai. Aap pyaar karte hai mujhse. Apni zindagi se bhi jyaada. Agni ko saakshi maankar saat phere liye hain humne. Yeh aapke naam ka mangalsutra aur sindoor hai. Aur aap mujhe keh rahe hai ki aap mujhe jaante nahi hai?"
"Agar aapki yaadaasht chali gayi to ismain mera kya kasoor hai. Itne dinon tak aapki har ek kadvi baat sahi hai yeh jaante huye ki aap mujhe bhool gaye hai Maan. Par ab aur nahi. Maine apne Babaji se vaada kiya tha; vachan khaya tha shaadi ke waqt ki main apne pati ka saath marte dum tak doongi. Par ab lagta hai ki mujhe mera vaada todan padega."
Saying this she was about to fall due to the exhaustion and she landed in Maan's arms. He didn't know why but he couldn't see her in pain now. After what she had said he lifted her and placed her on the bed.
He had to clear the confusion. He had lost his memory. He had been married and the woman he must thank; he had said spiteful words to her. He had accused his wife of infidelity.
He had to go and confront Dadima.
Dadima was pacing up and down in the bedroom as she had saw Maan follow Geet in the outhouse. She didn't want to confront her grandson. So she waited as she knew both only needed each other's company now.
Maan: "Dadima. Dadima. Kaha hai aap? Mujhe aapse bahut zaroori baat karni hai."
As he said that he spotted her in her room. She called him inside.
Dadima: "Kya baat hain Maan bete? Aap itna halla kyun macha rahe hai?"
Maan: "Dadima. Aaj main aapse kuch sawaal puchna chahta hoon. Aapko meri kasam; aap mujhe sab kuch sach sach batayengi."
"Kya Geet meri patni hai? Kya main sach main geet se bahut pyaar karta hoon? Kya geet ne meri jaan ise pehle bhi bachayi hai? Kya geet ko aap pasand karti hai? Boliye na Dadima?"
Dadima: "Haan Maan bete Geet aapki patni hai. Agni ko saakshi maankar saat phere liye hai aapne unke saath. Vachan khaaye hai. Zindagi bhar saath dene ka faisla kiya hai. Geet hume bahut pasand hai Maan bete."
"Geet to aapka saaya hai. Agar aaj aap hamare paas hai; sahi salamat to sirf Geet ki wajaha se. Aur aap humse poonch rahe hai ki Geet aapse pyaar karti hai?"
Dadima narrated their entire story from their first meeting in Hoshiyaarpur till date. She even told him about what Dev did with Geet. She also told him about his baby's loss. How shattered Geet was? Because for her; her baby mattered the most. Dadima told him about they had parted ways only to unite. Maan you were blessed by destiny to have geet in your life. Maan destiny bought you together but the world tore you apart.
Maan was in tears and was deeply in pain. He hurted and insulted the one woman whom he considered his life. He accused her of betraying her husband's love. How could he stoop so low? He fell to his knees crying inconsolably. He didn't know what to do? Dadima came and sat besides him. maan hugges her tight. He knew he had to set things right. He got up and told dadima what had he said to geet.
Maan: "Dadima mujhe geet ke paas jaana hai. Maine use bahut kuch keh diya jo nahin kehna chahiye tha. Main jaa raha hoon."
As maan was walking away; Dadima stopped him. she removed her Khandaani bangles and gave it to maan.
Dadima: "Jab geet aapko maaf karegi to mere taraf se unhe pehna dena."
Maan: "Bilkul Dadima. Main pehna doonga."
Dadima: "Ek aur baat batana chahte hain hum aapko. Jis din Geet ko pata chala ki aapki unhe bhool gaye hai; unka jawaab tha Geet ki zindagi ka faisla toh ussi din hogaya tha jis din woh Maan ki dulhan baani thi ussi din saab kuch tai hogaya tha; Geet suhagan baanke iss ghaar mein aayi hai; aur suhagan baankar hi jayegi."
Maan's joy knew no bounds. He just kissed and hugged her and left to make amends!
