Part 6
~Present~

There were times in Geet's life when she had thought that her love had been enough to build a future on. But sometimes one forgets that the heart which holds this love can be shattered into a billion little pieces, leaving no place for any love. Broken hearts were like broken pieces of mirror which could never be put together but unlike mirrors, broken hearts made no noise. They just leave behind pain, a lot of pain and grief. She pushed the painful memories aside as she looked at the soon to be bride in front of her and tried to concentrate on the present. Sam was in love with Arjun. Her friend Arjun. Arjun had been the one who had helped Pinky and Geet in the initial days of their struggle and for him to bestow such faith on her company to manage his wedding filled her heart with gratitude and worry. She didn't want to disappoint Arjun. She couldn't let her past effect her present.

"Are you sure about the date? New Year's Eve wedding doesn't give us a lot of time to plan everything on a large scale" Geet spoke as she opened her laptop.

"Geet, I really don't care. I am not into all the frills and everything. I just want to marry the man I love. I don't care if there is no lavish wedding. It doesn't matter to me. Just do whatever you feel comfortable with." Sam assured her as she took a seat across the table.

Maan had taken a seat on the large chair in her room and made himself comfortable as he picked up one of her albums and looked through the photos inside. Geet tried to keep her focus on Sam ignoring him which was becoming difficult as the minutes went by.

Not able to hold herself any longer, Geet asked "Sam why did you bring Maan along?" She hadn't meant it to be so harsh but she couldn't keep the bitterness out of her voice. Maan's ears perked up as soon as he heard his name. He looked up from the album but Geet had already averted her gaze and was looking intently at Sam who explained how her mom couldn't make it and Arjun was stuck at an out of city meeting. So she had asked Maan to accompany her. She apologized again as she knew nothing about Maan and Geet's history. Geet waved a hand at her apology and lied "It's not a big deal"

Maan kept a keen eye on Geet's reaction to Sam's conversation. She had sent a quick glance his way which she averted quickly. She hadn't spared him one single long glance, not one. Ever since he walked through the door of her office, she had done nothing but ignore him. Just like she had been doing for the past 2 years.

His presence doesn't bother me.. It's not a big deal.

Her words rang in his mind. He was a nobody to her. The person he had been looking for so long, the one he had loved with all his heart, sat a few feet away from him but wouldn't spare a few minutes for him. He meant nothing to her. His dreams meant nothing to her. All she was concerned about was her own life. She hadn't given him a second chance or regretted over her harsh decision. His pathetic life, suddenly seemed too worthless to live. As anger increased ten folds at the thought, he flipped pages of the photo album to keep himself occupied. How much ever he was mad at her, he couldn't help but be proud of her. Her designs were unique and praise worthy. He wished he could tell her that. Tell her how proud he was of her. She had come a long way. But he wouldn't. He didn't want to. He was brought out of his thoughts when Pinky came in with coffee. His heart flipped as Pinky's voice loomed in his ears "Geet, teri black coffee with one spoon sugar"

Instantly their eyes met across the room and the whole room stood still. The pain, the anguish, the torment, the suffering, he could see all. For the first time since he had come face to face with her after so long, he could also see the love she hid so well. He sat still as he read her face. Even from afar he noticed her hand shaking a bit as she took in each trembling breathe. Geet noticed the vein on the side of his forehead throbbing, his jaws clenched, his eyes boring into hers. He looked like a predator ready to go for the kill. Understanding his gaze, Geet's inside churned. Pain embedded itself a little deeper, slashing at her heart mercilessly. Did it have to be so difficult? Heat flamed at her cheeks at his stare but she held on to her cool faade. And then suddenly her face went blank as her breathing steadied and her tremors in her hand stopped. With much effort on her part, she averted her eyes and focused on the task at hand. It was a mistake to look at those eyes. A huge mistake!!

She wasn't unapproachable as she pretended to be. He might not have an affect on her but his anger still irritated her. What did she think? He would scoop her in his arms and kiss her fears away? Did she forget what she had done? She had killed their love with her bare hands. She had killed their future. She had'he seethed. But he also knew that this was not the Geet he had loved all his life. The real Geet hid somewhere behind the mask she put up for the world. He wondered how long it had taken her to perfect that indifferent mask she showed to everyone around. He wanted to see the Geet behind that mask once before he broke all ties with her. He needed answers and he wasn't going anywhere until he got them.

~Flashback~

She was all ready to leave the house when her mother's voice halted her steps midway.

"Geet puttar, jaati jaati yeh kheer leti ja. Maan ko bahut pasand hai." Her mother called out to her. She cringed as the implication of the words dawned upon her. Maan!!! He was there with Daadima. She was not going there. She couldn't face him. Not after her silly act yesterday. She had always acted foolishly in front of him and he had always blasted her. But they weren't kids anymore, she was almost 18. She shouldn't have acted like that. She knew Daadima would side with her, but she wasn't ready for Maan's wrath. All her childhood, he had scolded her and she had taken it meekly. He had once been a stranger, whom she had gotten to like and befriend. But who was he now? The guy whose car she ruined a day earlier or her childhood friend? All the memories were bitter sweet. She had thought they had finally started to build a polite friendship when all of a sudden Maan and his family left Hoshiarpur leaving Daadima behind. The older lady was her solace, his house had become her house and she never stopped visiting Daadima or caring for her. The days she was sick, Geet would stay behind and take care of her. But recently the old lady had gotten worse. Geet didn't know if it was her old age or the grief of staying away from her grandchildren. The thought about Daadima suddenly lifted her spirits. And just because Maan was here, she wasn't going to abandon Daadima. She would go meet her just like her everyday ritual; she just won't come face to face with Mr. Khadoos.

"Maa, Aap khud kyun nahi chali jaati dene. Aur Maan se bhi milna ho jaayega." She tried to get out of the situation.

"Maan to kal hi mujhe aa kar mil gaya tha. Tu nahi thi ghar par." Rano replied opening the cupboard looking for a bowl.

Yes, I wasn't home. I was at his house bitching about him to his own daadi in his own house. Oh'this was bad'this was very very bad. She never wanted to go face him in this lifetime.

Rano placed the bowl with the lid on it in her hands. "Chal ab ja aur usko bolna main thodi der mei khana bhijwa rahi hoon."

"Maaa." Geet whined.

"Geet, tu sara din idhar udhar ghoomti rehti hai..ek chota sa kaam nahi kar sakti mera?". Rano scolded as she busied herself in the housework. Great'emotional atyachaar!!!

She walked slowly dragging her feet reluctant to meet him when she spotted Yash.

"Veerji. Veerji..mere pyaare se veerji.

Yash raised an eyebrow, knowing his sister all too well, he asked "Geet kya chahiye?"

"Mujhe kya chahiye hoga? kuch bhi to nahi. Lekin Maan ko chahiye" She presented the bowl in front of him "Yeh kheer. Aap dekar aao usko please."

He very well knew her reasons but still asked. "And why are you not going?"

"Mujhe aur bhi to bahut sara kaam hai. Aap de aao na." determined to dodge the question, she replied.

Yash snickered. "Kal to bada chaku lekar maidaan mei utari hui thi. Aaj kya hua? Dar rahi hai Maan se?"

Geet blew a puff of air as she squared her shoulders and turned around in order to hide her fears."Main aur dar? Huh' main nahi darti kisi se."

"Accha? Theek hai to tu hi ja. Mujhe Meera se kuch kaam hai to main usko milne ja raha hoon."

"Wah wah.. yeh achcha hai.. Meera meri dost hai lekin usko milne aap jaa rahe hain? Kyun? Aap Maan ko milne jaayiye aur Meera ko milne main chali jaati hoon. Theek hai?" She turned around to face her brother but to her dismay Yash wasn't there anymore. She whined.

Chal Geet, kuch nahi hoga. Chup chaap se ja aur kitchen mei kheer rakh ke aa jaa. Kisi ko pata nahi chalega. Haan, yeh theek hai. Kheer hi to pahunchaani hai, konsa mushkil kaam hai. Babaji raksha karna.

She slowly made her way inside the house. As usual, the front door wasn't locked. Yeh Daadima bhi na. kitni baar kaha hai ki darwaazaa lock karna chahiye. Koi bhi andar aa sakta hai. She looked around for Maan but didn't spot him anywhere. Breathing a sigh of relief, she made her way to the kitchen. She placed the kheer in the fridge and started to move away when a manly voice startled her.

"How long are you planning to avoid me?"

She turned to face the one person she had been hiding since yesterday. Her breathe stuck in her throat. She tried to scan his face, try to read his expressions but they were blank. He was wearing a white t-shirt with faded jeans and his hair was gelled back neatly. He stood towering near the kitchen door making it impossible for her to avoid him.

"Main'eerr" she cleared her throat before she spoke again" main woh'kheer." She closed her eyes trying to formulate a complete sentence.

"Wow. This has to be a first. Aaj to awaaz bhi nahi nikal rahi tumhaari." He smirked, enjoying her agonized and flustered form.

Her eyes clouded in embarrassment. She didn't know what to say or do as she clutched her dupatta and knotted it nervously. He waited for her to say something before he tried to provoke her further. "Seriously Geet, you haven't changed a bit, have you? You still love to barge into other people's houses and talk randomly. But threatening people with knifes. You have made quite a progress, I must say."

Her eyes downcast, she waited for him to complete his ramblings. She knew she had made a mistake but he was been too cruel. Even though she was prepared for this, she didn't know his words would hurt her so much. Pushing the pain aside, she gutted her chin up, "Badle to tum bhi nahi Maan, Wahi khaufnaak aankhein, wahi gussa aur wahi jali kati baatein."

His nostrils flared as his anger went a notch higher. How dare she? He had expected an apology from her for her foolish behavior but she had a big mouth. "GEET---" He growled as he took a threatening step ahead.

"Maan, kya ho raha hai yahan?" Daadima's voice halted him as he glared at Geet, who seemed to return his glare with as much anger she could muster.

"Geet, Aap kab aaye beta?" Savitri Devi enquired.

She took her eyes off Maan's towering figure and looked at Savitri Devi. In her chirpy voice, as if nothing had happened, she replied "Main Maan ke liye kheer laayi thi." She walked towards Savitri Devi and cast a sideways glance at her, "Maa ne bheji hai. Maan ko pasand hai na? isliye" she moved forward putting her arms around Daadima's shoulders.

"Aaj aapki tabiyat kaisi hai?" she walked with her leaving Maan standing in the kitchen lost in his thoughts.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Maan, Yeh sab kya hai? Aap Geet par itna gussa kyun hain?" Savitri Devi tried talking to her grandson over lunch.

Exasperated, Maan looked at her "Daadima, aap sab jaanti hain phir bhi yeh pooch rahi hai?"

"Sab jaante hain, tabhi to pooch rahe hain" She spoke in a solemn voice, "You need to be gentle with her. Try talking to her, It was all a misunderstanding."

"But---"

"No, I want you to go talk to her. She is a very good girl. She is like my granddaughter, I won't tolerate you arguing with her" Savitri Devi put her foot down.

Maan groaned as he promised to go meet her later in the evening and try to make up.

So that was why he was standing at the Handa entrance in the pretext of talking to Yash, when he saw a young girl around 14-15yrs of age trying to pick up the broken pieces of porcelain vase. The girl had crouched down as she wept, her fingers quickly picking up the shattered ruins. Geet came running from one of the rooms and bent down to help her, picking up the pieces. They both halted as they heard a manly voice. Brij appeared, his face filled with fury, staring down at the ruined valuable vase.

"Kitni baar kaha hai dekh ke chala kar." he took a step towards the younger girl.

Geet leapt to her feet "It wasn't her fault. It was me"

Meeting her uncle's gaze, Geet lied through her teeth. She knew the truth wouldn't help so she lied shamelessly. "I was in a hurry and I bumped into her. It wasn't her fault"

Maan stood there as the drama unfolded in front of his eyes. She had taken the blame on her for something she hadn't done. He held his breath and so did Geet as she waited for her uncle to say something. There was silence as Geet stood between Brij and the crying girl. Her face was expressionless and her eyes were fixed on the ground. There was a swift movement and then a ringing sound of a slap. Geet didn't even flinch as her cheek turned scarlet red from the hit.

Maan hadn't even realized that he had moved. His entry threw Brij off guard. Seeing Geet get smacked had angered him. His hands turned to fists as his knuckles turned white. He didn't dare to look at Geet or her reddened cheek, lest he might just strangle Brij.

"Maan..Tu yahan?" Brij put on a farce quickly as he greeted him. From the corner of his eye, he saw Geet rush out dragging along with her the young girl.

Trying to keep his anger in check, he spoke "I came to see Yash" Brij directed him to his room and Maan quickly walked away. He hated to spend a single second in the company of that ruthless man. Something Yash said the earlier day had him thinking. After what he had seen today, he couldn't blame Yash if he didn't want to leave Geet alone here. He wouldn't either. He needed to think of something and fast.

~Present~

Having done with making a few major decisions, Sam was ready to bid adieu to Geet but Maan wasn't. His heart and soul were stuck there. He needed to talk to her alone. He walked Sam to the parking lot and sighed as he sat behind the wheel. He looked at the building and closed his eyes. He was leaving without getting some answers. He couldn't bring himself to start the engine and go away. Not when he had just found her. Maybe he needed to give her some time, some space. He knew where she was. He could always come back tomorrow and talk to her. But could he wait any longer? Hadn't he waited long enough? The number of questions and confusion kept increasing.

"Go talk to her" Sam spoke as she looked at him. His eyes flew open in shock. "I don't know why you never told me you were married before but I am guessing you still love her."

"No I don't" He spoke too quickly making Sam raise her eyebrows at him.

"Really? You could have fooled me"

"Sam, I'" he started to speak when Sam stopped him.

"Whatever you have to say, say it to Geet."

"No, That's okay. I will drop you home first" he turned the engine on.

"Maan, don't worry about me. I think there is still something between you two, I could feel it and I am seldom wrong." She turned the ignition off and took out the keys. "Now Go"

Geet heaved a sigh of relief as she gathered all the albums and files. She was drained, physically and emotionally. She needed rest, her bed and fast. She wondered at the way Maan looked at her with questions in his eyes that she didn't understand. Why had destiny brought him here after so long? Just when she was finally trying to forget him. As if!!! A little voice in her head taunted her. She remembered the smoldering look of his eyes when he saw her. It had been so intense that her legs had turned to jello, Thank heavens she was sitting!! It was pathetic how his one look still made her heart hammer violently in her chest. And then this sudden meeting? Was it meant to give a closure to their relationship? Maybe they were meant to put the past behind them and move on with their lives. She remembered how hard it was for her when she thought Maan had moved on. She sighed and looked out the window. The pain would never go away but did it really have to hurt so much? She blinked her eyes rapidly trying to keep her tears at bay when a pair of strong hands crept up her eyes from behind; she placed her hands on top. She instantly recognized the touch and her face broke into a small smile.

You know we have been thinking about this for the past few days( we as in me, Sonia, Aashu and Eshu). That we sometimes update on the same day and PMing becomes tiresome due to our busy schedules. Plus the PM list is almost the same.

So to make our work easier..(actually that's a lie..aashu n sonia are soo gonna dump this on me and get off scott free!! Lolz😆)😉😉

Anyways to make our work easier, we have created a common ID for PMs.

KaminisKult

Please do add this to your buddy list if you require a PM for our updates.

AASH- Shackles of Love

SONIA- Ripped Apart and Kaliren

JIA- Dreams and Rishtey

Plus any other OS/FF we come up with!

Thanks a bunch.😳😳

We will try to add a few people, but it will get difficult to add all. So please bear with us and add this ID.

This is the second last time we are using our respective IDs for PMs.

From next to next update onwards, we will PM only from KaminisKult id!

So just add the below ID to ur Buddy list
