It had been a week since Geet talked to him. If her constant gibberish was annoying, her silence was equally painful. It was irking him that she avoided him, in school, at his home when she came to meet his grandmother and during their playtime. That day after he refused to play with her and left her in the middle, they had found Geet sleeping behind a bush; apparently she had waited for Maan to come find her and then dozed off. Everyone was relaxed to see her safe and sound, however, Brij had not taken the whole thing lightly. Maan had always heard it from Yash that he was strict with her, but when Brij had jolted her from sleep and scolded her, Maan had actually felt guilty. It was the first time, he repented his behavior with little Geet.
"Dimaag to theek hai na tera Geet? Kal se tera ghar se baahar khelna band..Samajh gayi?" Brij roared.
She was punished for something he had done. If he had just played with her, like she wanted, none of this would have happened. She had said ten minutes. He couldn't spare ten measly minutes of his life for her? She didn't look up to see him in the eye but her silence spoke volumes. He waited for her to look his way so he could mouth an apology but she never did. He knew she was miffed at him when the next day Maan offered to play with her. But she had just walked off ignoring him and somewhere in his heart, something broke.
Nonetheless, Geet's anger was short lived. A few chocolates and one playtime was all she needed to forgive and forget and she was back to her usual chirpy mode teasing Maan and Yash like there was no tomorrow. Maan wondered if he should have just left her alone. He couldn't make his up mind if he liked a sulking Geet or this chirpy one.
He was on his way back from school when he overheard his dad talking on the phone. A frown creased his forehead and instantly his mood went foul.
"Dad? You promised…." He spoke in a hurt tone. "You said one year."
"Maan. I told you till I finish what I have come to do, I will not leave. I thought you were making friends. Don't you like it here son?" Amarnaath Khurana patted his son's back.
Maan gave it a quick thought before he answered his dad. "I do but I like Delhi more. It's boring here" Maan replied.
"How about we have a huge party for your upcoming birthday? It will be fun" His dad tried to cheer the dull boy.
"And invite who? I hardly have any friends here"
Sighing loudly, "Maan, aise nahi bolte. You can invite your whole class. They will like it"
"I don't want a birthday party. I want to go back" stating his opinion he left.
Sighing he made his way back to his room, when Geet was sitting in the living room laughing over a joke with his mom and grandma. He had hardly made it to his room when Geet came knocking in.
How the heck did she move so quickly? Wasn't she downstairs just now? And what does she want now?
"Next week tumhara birthday hai" she had a smile plastered on her face like always. Maan wondered if he had ever seen a frown there, except that one week.
"Tum pooch rahi ho ya bata rahi ho?"
"Kyun? Tumko yaad nahi ki tumhara birthday kab aata hai?" she snickered.
"GEET!!!" he shouted. He took a long breath and calmed himself. "Haan, hai to?"
"Daadima bol rahi thi ki bahut badi party karenge. Tum mujhe zaroor invite karna. Daarji kabhi hamara birthday celebrate nahi karte."
"Tumhe kitni baar bola hai ki woh meri daadi hai..tumhaari nahi" He replied ignoring her request. But boy was he wrong!
"Pata hai.. pata hai…who tumhaari daadi hain, ab bolo na karoge na invite?"
"NO" he roared.
"Kyun? I promise I won't trouble you. Please mujhe bhi party mei aana hai."
"There is not going to be any party Geet" he stood in front of her glaring her down.
Confused she asked meekly "kyun?"
"Because I don't have any friends here, my friends are in Delhi, not here" his irritation simmered.
"Yash Veerji is your friend." She retorted. "Aur main bhi to—" she added after a thought.
"I don't want a party. I hate it here. Dad said we will stay here for a year because of some stupid land issue and I cannot wait to go back to my life. I hate everything here. Everything!!!"
She stood meekly at the door looking at him pouring his frustrations out "Mujhe bhi?" she murmured.
He didn't hear her as he threw his book across the room in anger and turned around ending the discussion from his side. "Just leave"

~Present~
It had been one week since he returned to his homeland and he was already sucked into this. Will his life ever go the way he planned it to?? At this juncture, he had everything he ever wanted, but he didn't have that one person he wanted to share his life with. He had finally succeeded in creating the dream he had seen. They are right when they say you don't get everything in this one life. He got fame and money but he lost her in the way. She had left him and he was enraged. His ego didn't permit him to go pleading to her to take him back. So he waited. He waited for her to come to him. But stubborn as she was, she never did. She had run far away from his life like there was no tomorrow. She had always been good at running and hiding. And he had been trying to find her for the past one and half year. He turned off the shower and wiped his hair and damp body with a towel. Throwing the wet towel on the bed, he picked out a crisp white shirt and denim jeans. She had always liked him in white, he mused. His eyes fell on the towel on the bed and he could hear her voice loud and clear in his mind "kitni baar kaha hai geela towel bed par mat rakha karo"
He closed his eyes in despair. He hated that his mind and heart refused to let go of her. When she had no problems throwing him away like a waste tissue, why did his heart refuse to do that? Maybe because she was the only one who had made a special place in his heart? He hated to think that he had been so blinded by love. He would never allow anyone to rip his heart into shreds again. His heart was off limits. Quickly changing into the clothes, he picked up his mobile that rang for the hundredth time since morning.
"Please tell me you are NOT bailing on me" The voice screeched on the other side.
"For the last time, I am not bailing on you…I will be there in half an hour" he barked into the phone.
"Thanks Maan, Mom couldn't make it and I don't know anybody else here." the female voice chirped.
"Yes you do, you just like to trouble me. I am leaving the house as we speak if it gives you any satisfaction" He locked the door behind him as he made his way towards his car.
Half an hour later he was at Sameera's place to pick her up as promised.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Maan stared at the elegantly scripted letters that spelled out CELEBRATIONS by Geet on the sign in front of the building and barely managed to stifle the curse that rose to his lips. Geet, Was Geet here?? Could there be more than one Geet? He really hoped not. He double-checked the address, hoping that someone had made a mistake. But no, Sameera's little note clearly said this address. What did God have in store for them? He wondered, he had been trying to catch up with her for so long and when finally he is close to her, he didn't know what to do. He took a deep breath and looked over to the passenger seat. He had hardly managed to put the car to a stop when Sameera jumped off the seat before he could go around opening the door for her. She was obviously excited to be here, to meet with the wedding planner and go over details of the New Year's Eve ceremony she had wanted. He followed her up to their destination, wishing he could be anywhere but here. He didn't know if he wanted to face Geet with Sameera. One of the reasons he'd come back to India was to see Geet again, but he hadn't expected it to happen like this. He had tried so hard to find her, but he had been unsuccessful and now when he wasn't ready to face her---- He tried to compose his wildly beating heart and ran a hand over his face to calm himself but nothing worked. A part of him was scared while a part was springing with joy to have finally found her. He was also proud of her; she had achieved what she always dreamt of. But at what cost???. Leaving him deserted!!! She didn't think twice before she slashed his heart mercilessly and went off making a new life for herself. She was doing what she had always dreamt of.
~Flashback~
Annie came running to Maan and Yash in the backyard. She hiccupped as she cried and Maan was instantly on her side. "Annie..what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Bhaai…dekho na Geet kya bol rahi hai" she spoke between her sobs. In the mean time Geet had come to stand in front of the trio.
"Kya kaha Geet tune Annie ko?" Yash looked at Geet who held her head high as if she had done nothing wrong.
"Main to sirf isko yeh bola ki who aapse shaadi nahi kar sakti" She placed her hands on her hips as she answered her brother.
"WHAT?" Maan and Yash roared at the same time.
"Annie?? " Maan looked at his little sister for some answers. Geet's words were a puzzle for him.
Annie told them how they had been watching a movie where the girl got married off and had been crying bitterly. Daadima explained to the curious girls how when a girl gets married she has to leave her parents and family behind and move to her husband's house. Knowing about the facts of marriage, Geet had decided quickly that she would marry Maan and move next door so that she doesn't miss her parents and Yash. But when Annie said the same thing about marrying Yash, Geet had refused.
"Agar yeh mere bhaai se shaadi kar sakti hai to main iske bhaai se shaadi kyun nahi kar sakti?" Annie spoke as Maan rubbed her back and soothed her. He shot a dagger look towards Geet but she looked unaffected.
"Kyunki Yash veerji ki shaadi main apni friend Meera se karwaaungi"
Yash gasped as he looked at her. "Geet!!!" he yelled.
She looked at her brother who looked angry at her but she didn't understand the reason. She had always thought she would always see Meera, but now knowing that if Meera married somebody else she would move away. And Geet couldn't let that happen. So there was a simple solution to that. Get Meera married to her Veerji and problem solved.
"Yeh shaadian karwaane ke kaam tu badi ho kar karna.. abhi ke liye yeh sab rehne de" Yash took her hand, mouthing an apology to Maan and Annie, he dragged her home.
~Present~
With his head pounding, his rage strained on a tight leash, he stopped in front of the door. As he paused with his hand on the knob of the door, his mind was racing; his facial expressions must have revealed his inner turmoil because Sameera stopped to ask, "Maan, kya hua? Is something wrong?"
He smiled at the irony of the situation, no, something wasn't wrong—everything was wrong. This whole situation was wrong and he didn't have a slightest clue how to fix it. But he could hardly explain that to Sameera. Not here. Not now. Not when his mind was a puddle. Not when he himself didn't know what to do. Maybe this wasn't his Geet. But the way his heart thudded, he was sure she was close by. Even though he reminded himself, he hated her for what she did to him; his heart screamed for her.
So he did something he hated.
He lied. "No Sam, of course not," he said, and opened the door for her. Signaling her to step inside he spoke with as much enthusiasm he could muster, "Let's go and make wedding plans"
