KABIR'S HOUSE:

The events of the programme had been decided. They were going to sing two songs; a girl named Rita was going to deliver a speech which would be written by Rohit, another ex-student. Their old school band was in charge of the music. There was to be a solo classical dance, but the event which was easily the best was a couple dance, in which three couples would participate. The partners were decided by chits, and much to Piya's delight, she and Abhay were to dance together. The other two couples were Ruhi and Angad, and T with a boy named Arjun. An area in the middle of the room had been cleared to make the dance floor. It was to be a random sort of couple dance, where each couple could dance according to their choice.

As the music started, Abhay pulled Piya closer to him, and they started to sway with the music, lost in each other. Piya had almost forgotten everything except Abhay when he softly murmured, "Piya?"

"hmm?" said Piya dreamily.

Abhay twirled Piya around and pulled her closer. " Please don't try to find out about me, Piya. Please."

Piya(gazing at him as they moved with the music)- Abhay, I-

Abhay(putting a finger on her lips and making her shiver)- Shh. Don't say anything. Believe me, Piya, U don't want to know.

Piay(now starting to feel angry)- What I want is completely my business, Abhay!

Abhay(pulling her even closer, his breath on her face almost making her senseless)- No, Piya! I- I don't want to- to lose-

Piya(her hands unconsciously tightening on his shoulders)- Lose what, Abhay?

Abhay(frustrated, both at himself and Piya)- Can't U just leave it, Piya? Can't U-

Misha's voice drifted over to them, both annoyed and amused- Oye, u lovebirds!The music has stopped. Or should I drop rose petals on U? It may increase the romantic mood.

The others laughed. Piya, coming out of her own world,blushed scarlet and jumped back from Abhay, realizing how close she had been to him. Her heart was hammering so loudly that she was sure everyone could hear it.

Piya(careful not to make eye-contact with anyone)- Shut up, Mish. We-we didn't hear it stop. Jus-

Misha(grinning)- Oho, my sis. In the wonderland of love-

Kabir(who was not happy at all)- Okay, okay. As soon as the music has been picked up properly, we will start the song. We will modify the music of both the songs slightly, okay? And, Rita U tell us after u have learnt the speech, then u can say it in front of us.

The ones who r not participating can help in decorations. Mish, I need u to stay to help. Piya(glancing briefly at her, and cannot help feeling jealous when he remembers her with Abhay, who is silently standing)- U can stay too if u like.

Piya(smiling,although her ears r still red)- I'd love to help, Kabir, but then nobody will be home. Mom and Dad r returning this evening. I-um- want to cook something for them. So-if u don't mind-

Misha(going over to her and clapping her on the shoulder)- That's my sis. Always responsible. I love u, yaar.(hugs Piya) Don't forget to make my fav dish.

Piya(in a stern voice but with a wink)- Misha! I m making this 4 our parents. A special return-home treat!

Misha(grinning)- Whatever. I know u wont refuse me. And I haven't tasted ur hand-made food for four years! I'll be back home as soon as I can.

Piya(smiling)- Don't worry, Mish. Cya soon. Bye, Kabir!

JAISWAL HOUSE:PIYA'S ROOM

Chiraag leaped into the room through the open window, landing noiselessly on the floor.

So silly of her,not to close the window of an empty house,he thought. He knew this was her room, having observed the house all morning. Moreover, he could smell the vampire smell. It had been outside the house too, but it was stronger here. Dear me,were u sleeping with him last night, Piyali? He thought, a grin creeping into his face. Maithili is going to be so mad. Well, she's going to be mad at me too, if I don't return soon. Shame,I wanted to explore her room- Sighing, he went over to her bed and slid a chit of paper beneath her pillow, so that it was half sticking out. She would spot it quite easily. He looked around the room once, and a look of anticipation spread over his face. I'll meet U soon, Piyali, he whispered. He leaped out of the window and went away.

JUST OUTSIDE DEHRADOON:A DARK CAVE

Maithili paced in the cave, a thoughtful look on her face. Abhayendra's 100^th vampire birthday was nearly three months away. She needed to keep Piya and Abhayendra away from each other. Abhayendra was hers, and hers only. No other woman was going to take him. Hopefully, with her plan, Piya would soon start to hate Abhayendra and stay away from him. She was counting on Abhayendra's protective nature for that. At first, she had decided to kill Chiraag after extracting information from him about Piya. But he was proving to be quite useful. She smiled. Soon, the world will be mine, she thought. Thank u for making me a vampire, my dear husband, my Rigel.

OUTSIDE JAISWAL HOUSE:A LITTLE DISTANCE AWAY.

To his surprise, Jay saw Chiraag emerge from the big house in front of him. He felt a sudden intense fury, and a sudden urge to kill him right then and there.

Jay, calm down and think logically, he said to himself,trying to fight down the hatred rising in him. Don't act foolishly.Stick to ur basic plan. U r going to attack him on a full moon,when u r strongest. Don't act impulsively.

He took deep breaths to let his brain start working properly. He started feeling curious. What had Chiraag been doing in this house?Jay was certain that he did not live her. Then what-?

He approached the house silently. As he neared he, he caught another smell.

Vampires? He thought, shocked and amazed. What is that vampire smell? What was a vampire doing here? Can they live here? No, the scent would be stronger if they lived here.Then-?

He neared the gate of the house and read the name plate there.

JAISWAL HOUSE

Hmm.Jaiswals. The famous businessman, Arnab Jaiswal?Interesting, very interesting. I m sure they r hundred percent humans. Then what was a werewolf and a vampire doing here? I need to know. Jay thought. Yes, this is where I will stay.

OUTSIDE KABIR'S HOUSE

As Piya started walking, Abhay approached her. " Piya? Can I drop u home?"

Piya looked up at him, and her heart skipped a beat as her eyes met his. "S-sure" she managed feebly.

Abhay held the door open for her and she got in. As she was fumbling with her seat-belt, Abhay got into the driver's seat and started the car. Piya started to turn red, as she became aware of his closeness. He drove in silence, as Piya sat beside him, looking out of the window, nervously biting her lower lip. Abhay, on the other had, was fighting the urge to hold her hand, or perhaps, just tuck her hair behind her ears. He shot her a sideways glance , and his lips twitched as he saw her beetroot red face.

"Feeling hot, Piya?" he asked.

"No" said Piya quickly, blushing even more.

Abhay smiled to himself.

The rest of the ride passed in silence.As they reached Piya's home, and Piya began to unbuckle her seat belt, Abhay said "Piya."

Piya turned towards him and let out a weak gasp. Abhay's face was almost touching hers as he bent towards her. "What?" she said, weakly.

"There's something in ur hair." Abhay reached out and touched her hair , and Piya closed her eyes, his touch sending shivers down her spine. "I threw it" said Abhay, and Piya opened her eyes to find him staring at her. "We reached ur home Piya."

"y-yeah" Piya almost fell out of the car in her hurry to get out. He was overpowering her senses. " Thanks for the ride."

"No problem", Abhay started the car again . " Just remember what I said earlier during the dance." He drove away, leaving Piya standing there. I'm sorry, Abhay, she thought. I can't listen to u. I need to find out about u.It's very important for me.

PIYA'S ROOM

Piya entered her room to freshen up before she went to the kitchen to work on her "special treat". As she neared her bed, she spotted a piece of paper sticking out from behind her pillow. She was certain she had not put it there. Curious, she picked it up and opened it. She stared at what was written, and the happy expression from her face disappeared. Her eyes filled with tears…
