FANTASY

CHAPTER-7

Maan stiffened. His heart had skipped a beat when Geet touched his hand so softly. But her words shattered the last ray of hope he had!!! She had never forgiven him. She had agreed to stay back till her recovery and now, she wanted to leave. She wanted to leave him again. The last few days were hell for him, as he was almost on the verge of losing her forever…She had been so weak, so fragile, so ill!!! But atleast he was allowed to stay close to her, atleast he could stare at her when she slept, atleast he could hold her hands and keep her to his side. But she wanted to leave and that would mean snatching the last shred of life from Maan. He looked at her grip on his hand painfully, and then stared at her.

" Lekin tum… abhi puri tarah se…."

" Main thik hoon Maan. I am strong enough to leave now so, I think I will be leaving tomorrow itself. Thank you for everything you have done for me!!

She let go of his hand and lied down on the bed to sleep. He walked out of the room slowly and made his way to the study.

" Woh mujhe chorke chali jayegi kal. Main kya karunga uske baghaar? Mujhe use rokhna chahiye, magar maine use waada kiyatha ke main aisa kuch bhi nahin karunga…Main meri Geet se alag nahin reh sakta!!!"

It was 2am when Geet woke up feeling thirsty. She switched the light on and saw the room empty of Maan. She grabbed her dupatta and walked out. As she passed the study, she saw the lights on and went in. There was a strange feeling of deja-vu when she saw him and softly called out, "Maan!!"

He stood with his back to her, staring out of the window and whispered in a low voice, just for her to hear!

" Geet I am sorry!!!! Mujhe chorke ke mat jao!! Main tumhare bina nahin jee sakta!!"

" Aapne mujhse waada kiya thana Maan, ke ek bar main thik ho jaungi toh jo main chahti hoon wohi hoga!!!"

He whipped around and pulling her close gently, looked deep into her eyes!!

" Geet!! Tum toh aapne Maan ko aachi tarah se janti ho na? Mujhe jab gussa aata hai tab mujhe kuch bhi nahin sujhta. Saahi galat, saach jhooth kuch bhi nahin samaj aata mujhe… mujhse bohut bari galti ho gayii.. maine tum per shak kiya!! Lekin uski itni bari sazaa mat do mujhe Geet please!! Mujhe chor kar mat jao!!! You have no idea, I lived through the last few days only because you were here with me!! Atleast tum mere samne thi, mujhe tumhari zaarorat hai Geet. Main nahin jee paunga tumhare bina. Please Geet!!! Please!!

He stood there holding her in his arms. Her eyes filled with tears as she slowly whispered,"Nahin Maan!!" and looked away from him. He held her for a long time, searching her eyes for mercy, forgiveness…But he saw nothing…He let go of her very slowly. She walked out of the study leaving him alone.. standing there, looking at the only woman he loved the most walk out of his life forever!!!

The next morning, Geet stood infront of the mirror drying her hair, while Maan sat on the couch going through some files. Neither of them had talked about the last night. Geet was lost in her own thoughts, when she saw Maan slip an envelope into the flower vase on the table in front of the couch from the corner of her eyes. Maan saw her look at the envelope from the mirror. He averted his eyes from her, cleared his throat and said, " Woh main office jaa raha hoon."

After he left, Geet went and picked up the envelope. Inside was a letter addressed to her.

GEET,

Last night, after you left the study, I thought about us a lot. I convinced you to stay with me for these days, because I felt a huge part of me burn down to ashes when I saw you like that, lying limp and lifeless in my arms. Isse accha hota ke main mar jata. Main bohut sharminda hoon aur janta hoon ke maine jo tumhare saath kiya, uske baad toh mujhe tumhara paati kehlaneka bhi koi haaq nahin hai. Lekin main jabbhi tumhe dekhta hoon, tum jabbhi mere paas hoti ho, aisa lagta hai ke main saas le raha hu.Tumhare siva mera koi nahin hai Geet. I cant afford to lose you. Mujhme bohut saari kamiya hai, main bohut boring hoon, gussewala hoon, zyada baat nahin karta hoon. Lekin Geet, I can promise you something, Noone can love you as much as I do, and I know you love me even more than that.

Agar tumhe lagta hai, ke tum aapne Maan ko uski saari galti o ke liye maaf karsakti ho, aapne Maan ko uski saari kamiyo ke saath accept karsakti ho toh thik 2 baje mujhe ek missed call de dena. Yehi meri aakhri umeed hai Jaan. Aur agar nahin diya toh… mujhe soch ke bhi darr lagta hai ke uske bad kya hoga!!!

But I will brace myself, because this will be my punishment for not being able to hold on to the most beautiful and precious part of my life.

Main intezaar karunga Geet!!

The tears trickled down, soaking the piece of paper she held tightly in her hands. She glanced at the clock. It was 10am. She put the letter down on the table softly, and walked to the cupboard, gathering the few clothes she had……

The clock seemed to have stopped moving. Or so it seemed to Maan. It was 12pm, and he was sitting in his cabin, staring at his blackberry steadfastly.

" Maan!!! Get a grip. You said 2pm. Start gaping at your phone after 2pm.", he scolded himself mentally.

The hour dragged itself and at about 1:15pm, Adi came in to announce that the blueprints were ready and clients were waiting in the conference room for the final decision!!

Maan grabbed his phone, and walked out reluctantly. Adi's eyes popped out. What HAD happened to Maan sir? He looks so uninterested.

All throughout the meeting, he kept glancing at his phone. It was 1:50pm. Just 10 more minutes and the biggest decision of his life will be made. He felt his heart beating vigorously against his ribs, threatening to burst out of his chest..

" Sir!! SIR!!!!" Adi called, trying to get his elusive attention..

"Huh?? What?? Wait, Adi, why don't you handle it today. I am getting bored, I have to go!!!", Maan left, with his precious phone clutched in his hands and leaving a group of shocked and shaken people behind!!!

" Did he just say he is BORED??"

" What the hell happened to him? Maan sir is never like that!! He has never ever walked out of any business meeting!!!"

" Why did he look so lost? Is is about Geet??", she thought as she sat in the conference room, after witnessing Maan's weird behavior." Why cant I get rid of that b**** Geet!!"

Maan strolled from one end to the other end of his cabin. It was exactly 2pm. He walked desperately glancing at his phone every 2 seconds. " Geet maan toh jayegi naa? Lekin usne abhi tak missed call kyun nahin diya? Mera letter toh parha hoga na usne? She had seen me keep the letter there, she should have read it by now!!! Come on Geet, please give me the missed call!!! Please Jaan!!!"

The seconds changed to minutes. It was 2:45pm and still no missed call. Maan sat on his chair heavily, jumping at any sound from his cell. He stopped all calls and cancelled all meetings, sitting numbly in his cabin waiting willing for his phone to ring…

The minutes changed to hours and it was finally 6pm. The staff were getting ready to leave, get back to their family and loved ones. But Maan sat there leaning on his chair with closed eyes.

Geet chali gayii… usne mujhe maaf nahin kiya… main use rok nahin paya… kho diya maine use, kho diya maine aapni Geet ko…woh mujhe chor kar chali gayi… aab shayed kabhi nahin aayegi. Main use kabhi mil bhi nahin payunga shayed. Meri ek galti ne mujhse sab kuch cheen liya!! Har gaya tu, Maan Singh Khurana Tu har gaya…sab kuch khatam ho gaya... its over!! EVERYTHING IS OVER!!!

great part...cud feel maan's pain, his emotions, his love for geet in that letter...it is written so beautifully...did geet really leave maan and go away?
