A Maaneet Tale

University Part 2

I watched Maan and Geet leave in frustration. My plan was backfiring.

I wanted Maan to leave Geet, not for them to be together.

Gritting my teeth, I slumped down on the sofa. I had to find a way to separate them. Sooner, or later.

Thinking about what to do, an idea finally found its way into my head.

Armaan.

Getting out of the jeep, I waved at Maan and ran up to the gates. Other girls looked at me in envy. I tried not to smile.

As soon as I reached the gates I saw my friends Pinky, Meera, and another smart looking boy who must be Armaan.

Pinky, as usual munching on a packet of crisps ran over to hug me. Meera, who was checking herself out on her compact mirror saw me and gave me a smile.

"Hi" I said shyly to the guy after Pinky finally let go of me

"Hey, you must be Geet" he said and gave me a dazzling smile before looking at me up and down.

I nodded and returned a smile, again feeling shy.

Armaan: "Cool, I'm Armaan. Maan must have told you about me" he said

"Yes, your his cousin" I said

After he introduced himself, Pinky and Meera said they had to separate ways since they had different classes. Meera gave me strict instructions to stay with Armaan at all times. Pinky gave me a packet of crisps and told me to eat them whenever I felt hungry. I laughed and took the packet of crisps, anyway.

It was like love at first sight.

The minute I saw her in that red saree, it was like catching a glimpse of an angel.

So as we walked to the room our lecture was in, I couldn't help but compliment her on her looks.

"You look very beautiful" I said and wish I hadn't said anything

Geet: "Thank you" she said and smiled

Looking at her up and down again, my eyes rested on the Mangalsutra that was resting on her chest. My heart sank when I realized she was married.

She was married to Maan.

So yes, after that I promised myself never to think like that about her again.

We were going to be friends.

And that was it.

I stared at my new assignment blankly.

"I'm going to need help with this" I said after our class to Armaan.

Armaan: "It's ok. I'll help you. Maybe I could come over to your house?" he suggested

"Okay. You know where Maan lives right?" I said

Armaan nodded.

As soon as we arrived outside, I saw Maan's jeep. Maan waved at me.

"I'll see you later. When will you be coming over then?" I asked

Armaan: "I can come tomorrow" he said

"Okay. See you tomorrow then" I said and ran over to Maan's jeep.
