Terrace, Abhay's House
Abhay poured himself some cognac and putting his legs up on the table and resting his head on the sturdy headrest of his red couch, he looked up at the spread of stars , a grim expression on his face. He could sense that he was changing inside and he could almost feel an angry destructive monster inside him wildly restless to get out. He had managed to scoop the truth out of Piya and Zeenia – and now, he needed to get to that ring and that scroll wherever they were. Only Anushka knows where that ring is but even if he cannot get Anushka to do it , his own dreams are leading him to that .
Abhay ( his ice blue eyes darkening )- I just need to concentrate a little more and am sure I can see and find the place where the ring is kept. I should find it myself instead of anyone leading me to it , so that I can be my own master.
Just then, he sees two human shadows looming large over the cemented floor of the terrace and a slow smile comes across his face as he taps his fingers on his glass of cognac.
Abhay ( without looking up )- Piya and Kabir….. ( looks up at them as their figures become clear in the moonlight )…..unwelcome guests or suffocating protective friends? Choose the phrase that you like.
Kabir and Piya look at him as though scrutinizing him as he ushers them to sit opposite him, making a drink for Kabir.
Kabir ( coming to the point)- I am not here to counsel or convince you for anything, Abhay.
Abhay ( smirking as he throws Piya a long look )- Then, why have you brought her along with you? Didn't she tell you about the snake and acid act that I did with her and Zee… ( clears his throat )…. Anushka today?
Piya ( coolly )- I told him and he says what matters if that you didn't hurt either of us.
Abhay ( laying back lazily )- Don't push your luck too hard, Piya. Next time, I might just slice your neck. We are not lovers anymore , and relying on past emotions will mean risking your life.
Piya ( her eyes flaring )- When you will have it in you to slice my neck, we shall see. Giving up on me is your decision and that doesn't mean I feel the same. Besides , I am not here to beg you to fall back in love with me…. ( looks at Kabir )… Kabir wanted to talk to you about something important and I had to come along. Kabir was unsure about how you would react or if you would think that Kabir's visit is awkward.
Abhay ( studies Piya and shrugs his shoulders at Kabir )- What Kabir? After so much stretched out melodrama in my life , you still think that I would find anything odd?
Kabir ( thinks and then gathering his thoughts starts talking )- Fine, Abhay. I am going to make this very very simple and to the point . Tomorrow, the vampire slayers – as in the young clan of Daksh's family is joining college .
Abhay ( puckers his mouth cutely )- Cool! So, you are throwing a Freshers' Party for them, fellow slayer?
Piya( sternly )- Abhay , its not funny at all! They – the vampire slayers are joining the college to keep an eye on you. Daksh, his mom , his siblings and the entourage they have brought with them will be keeping a watch on you all the time.
Abhay ( looks at her anxious and scared face )- Because am turning 666 years old in about 2.5 months? And they think I should be nipped in the bud before I turn the face of evil under that much awaited solar eclipse?
Kabir and Piya exchange glances and then, nod at Abhay unsurely. Abhay puts his legs down and walks up to the parapet , slipping his hands into the pockets of his black pajamas.
Abhay ( looks at the moon )- I saw that one coming. With the kind of destiny that awaits me, the good will want to destroy me and the bad will try to own me. Hmm. Thanks for the heads up ex-friends but to kill me, you have to first find out HOW to kill me. Soon, stakes and charms will stop working on me. Slayers are gunning for me because its their job to keep the line between the human world and the vampire world intact – Daksh is the apparent good army here barring what he did to Pancchi and my Mom.
Kabir ( calmly )- I just came to tell you that you should be alert , Abhay. Daksh's family is the bloodline of the original slayers and even if they cannot kill you, their 'trying to kill you' can be harmful enough.
Abhay turns and looks at Kabir and then, shakes his head with a half smile.
Abhay ( strongly )- You are a slayer as well, Kabir. A powerful one with mutant powers. If I , Abhay Raichand , turn the monster that everyone is fearing , what will you do? What will be your moral duty?
Kabir's lips quiver as Abhay almost shoots him down with his sharp ice blues and Piya looks at Abhay in disbelief.
Piya ( offended )- Has Abheer crept into you or what, Abhay? Kabir is your friend , damn you! Here he has come to warn you because he cares about you and you…
Before Piya can finish her rant on Abhay, Kabir puts a hand on her shoulder , making Abhay clench his fists but maintain a cool and calm face. Piya looks at Kabir in confusion.
Piya ( to Kabir )- WHAT?
Kabir ( looks at Abhay )- My moral duty will be to kill you, Abhay. And I will.
Piya looks at Kabir in shock while Abhay just grins to himself.
Piya ( grabbing Kabir's collar )- ARE YOU NUTS? You will kill Abhay? YOU? You are his friend, and you are supposed to protect him!
Kabir ( trying to calm her down )- Piya, all this has moved beyond emotions and relationships, when will you understand?
Abhay walks upto Kabir and Piya and he takes Piya's hands away from Kabir's collar gently. Her fair gentle hands shiver in his large square ones.
Abhay ( melts a little )- There is no point in standing in the way of an avalanche, Piya. Fate is taking its course and each one of us will ultimately do what we are fated to do. Its simply good versus evil now with a peripheral struggle of the grey in us. Let it be… and hey, stop thinking or worrying about me. I am out of your life and considering that , you should be out of Dehradun.
Piya feels his warmth in the way his hands are holding hers and for her that glimpse of old Abhay is enough.
Piya ( in a shaky voice )- I am not going anywhere, Abhay. Am sticking around till the end and forever.
Abhay ( gets angry and jerks away her hands )- You are insane.
Piya – Maybe . But I love you and there is nothing I can do about it.
Abhay ( grabs Piya by the shoulders and shakes her like a winter leaf )- You don't understand, you deceiving little donkey! Its not about how much I hate you , its about how much I can harm you once the eclipse happens! We are CONNECTED by our blood and that means devastation! ….Gah! I wish I could kill you to stop all this but that friggin' shield won't even let me do that! …( lets her go )… Kabir! Just take this chick out of my sight!
Kabir sees how unsettled and angry Abhay is looking as though he is trying to either stop himself from slapping Piya or else hugging Piya. Kabir takes Piya's hand and walks away.
Kabir ( genuinely )- Please remember what I said, Abhay.
Abhay ( nods and then looks at Piya )- Hmm… and you remember what I said. You are bad news to me and I will be the headline of your life , or maybe even your death. Kabir, you loved her once upon a time, right?
Kabir ( caught off guard and embarrassed while Piya goes all gawky )- Wh-What?
Abhay – Yeah. So, for the sake of her life and that love of yours , the next time, she wants to come and see me, just give her a tight slap across her face!
