"Maan brought the car to a screeching halt in front of JD's school. He couldn't help but grip the wheel in frustration, upset that his calls to the police hadn't yielded quicker results. He was angry that Geet had disappeared when the Kenilworth police were supposed to be patrolling the area around their home, but they were small in numbers and couldn't be there all the time. He also didn't like the response he got from the officers investigating the shooting. He felt that they should have accomplished more in the last two weeks and discovered who the shooter was. However, as that case was recent and still open, both departments would be able to work together and Maan clung to the hope that they would find Geet soon.
Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself, knowing that he needed a clear head if he wasn't going to fall apart. The important thing right now was to get JD home safely. Then he could focus all his energies on finding Geet. He got out of the car and quickly went inside the school, where the administrator directed him to a room where JD was having juice and crackers.
"Uncle, where's GT? How come you forgot me?" came the questions as soon as Maan's presence was noticed. JD was clearly upset and sticking his lower lip out in an angry pout.
"JD, I didn't forget you. I'm here, see?"
JD's brow wrinkled in thought. He asked once again, "Uncle, where's GT? How come she's not with you? Where's GT?"
When Maan didn't answer him, his eyes widened in panic. "What happened? Were's my GT?" he cried.
"I don't know!" shouted Maan in frustration, his voice so loud and sharp that JD started crying.
Maan covered his eyes with his hand, attempting to get a handle on his frayed nerves. If he fell apart now, that wouldn't help Geet, which was his top priority at the moment. He also needed to be strong for his nephew, who was only a child who had already lost his parents and was now facing the loss of his beloved GT.
Bending down to JD's level, Maan placed his hands on his shaking shoulders and said, "JD, it's true that I don't know where Geet is or what happened to her, but I'm going to make you a promise. I will do whatever it takes to get your GT back. Now matter how long or how difficult the search is, I will find her and bring her back."
"Promise?" asked JD with a sniffle.
"Promise," confirmed Maan, wiping JD's tears away from the small child's cheeks.
JD looked solemnly into Maan's face, searching his eyes earnestly. Seeing the conviction his uncle displayed, the boy was slightly reassured. He flung his arms around Maan's neck, hugging him for all he was worth. Maan reciprocated the gesture, picking JD up in his strong arms and carrying him out to the car. He wanted to get JD home to where Dadi and safety were waiting. Only then could he put all his focus on getting back the girl who had become his life.

Geet felt the blindfold being taken off her eyes and then the duct tape from her mouth was ripped off as her eyes adjusted to the dim light. She couldn't help but gasp from the stinging caused by the removal of the tape. Standing in front of her, Geet saw what she assumed to be the same woman who had pointed the gun at her and forced her to get in her car. It was difficult to tell, as the woman was wearing a burqa, which covered her features entirely.
Geet couldn't figure out who this person was or what they wanted. She was just about to ask what was going on when the woman turned and made her way to the room's only door. Before Geet could even get one word out the woman was gone, closing the door tight, leaving Geet in darkness.

"Sir, we found the car Ms. Handa was driving, but there is no sign of her as yet. We are continuing to search the area for additional evidence."
"She has an iPhone. Can't you track her whereabouts based on that?" questioned Maan angrily, upset that the police still had no news or evidence pointing to Geet's whereabouts.
"Mr. Khurana, we can only track someone's phone, regardless of the make or model, if the phone is turned on. We've been trying to get a track on Ms. Handa's phone, but have been unsuccessful so far. We will continue our efforts to find her, don't worry."
"Don't worry!" scoffed Maan, ready to do something drastic in response to what he considered the slow efforts on the part of the police. However, he didn't want to get arrested for assaulting a police officer, so he took a deep breath and decided to take charge of the situation.
Folding his arms and giving the typical MSK stare, he addressed the officer in charge. "Prepare for a press conference. I want to be live at six on all the major networks."

"I'm sure you're feeling thirsty. I've brought some water for you to drink." The glare visible in the dim light from the open door, clearly indicated what Geet thought of of the woman's offer.
"There's no need to look like that. I'm not a cruel person. I don't intend for you to suffer dehydration. There's no way for you to escape, so there is also no way for you to get anything to drink. Instead of suffering, take what's being offered like an intelligent individual."
The veiled woman held up a glass with a straw to Geet's mouth. Not knowing what else to do at that moment, Geet opened her mouth and drank some of the water. Her eyes had once again adjusted to the light and she noticed that not only was the woman entirely covered, but she also wore gloves. This seemed very odd to Geet.
Unable to keep silent any longer, she asked, "Why are you doing this? What do you want?"
"What do I want? Yes, that is the question, isn't it. However, I'm sure that I will give you that answer."

A young man who was trying to get through his days one at a time, hoping to stay on track, had just sat down with his dinner to watch the six o'clock news on WLS. When he saw the start of the news showing a live police conference, he was mildly interested, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. Then he saw the vaguely familiar face of a young women flashed on the screen and heard the man saying that he would pay a huge reward to anyone with information on the whereabouts of his missing fiance.
He tried to remember why that face looked so familiar, because he was sure that he didn't know this Geet Handa. After racking his brains for a few minutes, his eyes widened and he rushed to pull out boxes from under his bed. He rummaged and dug through a bunch of old envelopes that weren't helpful. Finally he found the envelope that contained a reminder of how low his life had sunk three months ago.
