Chapter Five
(My Second Day)
The next day Geet arrived an hour early to work because she had some extra things to print off. She was lost in her thoughts and she was playing with her bracelet as she entered the hospital. She was nodding her head in greeting everyone at the hospital.
Suddenly, she bumped into Dr. Armaan and she sort of fell back a bit, " Ouchh.." said Geet as she regained her balance. " Oh sorry Dr. Geet... maine aapko dekha nahi" said Armaan looking a little afraid. Geet looked at him with an fake angry face... and she glared at him, " Dr. ARMAAN MALIK" said Geet in a cold tone. Armaan looked a bit scared, " Oh no..." Geet glared at him once more and then she started laughing, " Oh GOD I got you there!..." Armaan realized that she was faking the anger and he laughed a little, " You scared me there Dr. Geet... I thought I was actually going to get kicked out any minute". Geet laughed, " Relax Dr. Armaan... agar aisay tension mein rahogay na.. to sahi se kaam ne karpao ge". " Acha, btw why are you so early? Dr. Maan ne daant diya kya?..." said Geet.
Armaan laughed, " nahi maam... I thought I would come early... it was a nice time to get a head start". " Are you serious? do you really want to be like your senior doctor Dr. Maan?.." said Geet. " Maam.. you are really funny" said Armaan as he couldn't stop laughing. " Acha shh... its between you and I... don't go telling everyone and including Dr. Khurana" said Geet. " Ji maam.. btw maam.. you look very nice today" said Armaan with a smile.
" Thankyou Dr. Armaan.. now please go! before DD comes..." said Geet. " DD?" said Armaan with a question mark on his face. " Dusht Dhanav.. instead of what do they say.. Dhak dhak?" said Geet with a smirk. Armaan laughed, " Maam.. you are so bad..." " Oh ho..lighten up! waisay bhi... it looks so depressing here at times..." said Geet. " Maam that is by far the best joke I've ever heard..." said Armaan. " Acha jaoo!" said Geet. Armaan nodded and went towards the opposite direction.
Geet was so happy because she loved connecting to her younger individuals! Geet thought it was so depressing in Sanjeevani... she needed to lighten up the mood here... Everyone looks so tense... especially when Dr. Maan enters. Geet walked towards the locker room to put her labcoat on and to get her stethescope. As she entered she saw Maan standing there by his locker. " Good Morning Dr. Maan" chirped Geet. Maan turned around, " Good morning".
Maan looked at Geet... she looked even more prettier today. She was wearing a white anarkali with a black border. Her hair was tied to a side pony tail and she wore pearl studs. She looked, simply beautiful. Geet sensed that Maan was looking at her and she turned around," Can I help you with anything?" Maan snapped out of it and said, " Oh no..."
Just then Dr. Yash, who was another senior doctor, entered the lockeroom. Geet and Maan turned around and Yash smiled, " Hi Dr. Maan and... I'm sorry you are?" Geet smiled, " Dr. Geet". Yash put his hand out for a handshake, " So you're the new senior doctor that everyone was talking about! Welcome Dr. Geet". Geet smiled,
" Thankyou and I'm guessing you are a senior doctor too?". Yash smiled, " Of course... Maan wouldn't let me in if I wasn't". Geet laughed and Yash noticed her sweet smile. " You have a very sweet laugh and smile" said Yash. Geet smiled, " Thankyou.. and you're a very nice person yourself". Maan was observing their conversation and he suddenly broke into it, " Um Yash don't you have somewhere to be?"
Yash and Geet looked at him and Yash said, " Oh yeah... I do... sorry... I got caught up in talking to our new senior doctor". Geet laughed, " Its alright... we all have to go now.. and by the way, I'm holding a dinner at a restaurant for all senior doctors, would you like to come?". Yash's face lit up," Of course! we haven't had one in the longest time!"
" Great! Dr. Maan will text you the details... right Dr. Maan?" said Geet. " Yeah... I will..." said Dr. Maan. Yash nodded, " Okay.. I'll take your leave and nice to meet you again Dr. Geet". Yash winked at her and Maan noticed, " Uh Dr. Geet.. did you see the new file for the new intern yet?". Geet smiled, " Yes.. and the new intern is coming today..." Maan nodded, " Okay..." Maan closed his locker and he exited the room. Geet sighed, " Oh ho.. Dr. Yash se kuch seekhiye... he is the first one in the senior doctors who actually smiled..."
Geet put her labcoat on and she shut her locker and exited the room.
Geet was circulating around again and she saw Maan in the children's ward... and he was being the typical saru khadoos khurana again.. yelling at Dr. Sonali. " Kuch kaam sahi se aata hai kya? AM i wasting my time in providing for a practicum for interns like YOU!?" said Maan angrily. Geet frowned, " Choti si ghalti ki hai.. aur itni bari sazaa.. abhi theek karti hoon". Geet entered and walked towards Dr. Sonali who looked like she was about to cry. She put her hand on her shoulder and she turned to look at Maan who was clearly angry.
" Dr. Maan! this is a hospital! and this is a young intern! please don't create a scene here! And I told her to do that... I gave her the wrong instructions... I misinterpreted the reports for that child" said Geet as she looked at Maan straight in the eyes. " DR GEET... please don't tell me what to do and what not to do in MY hospital and also do you NOT know that this is the most delicate unit! and you are a senior doctor! YOU should know better! Please DON'T make me regret my decision in hiring you.". Geet wiped Sonali's tears and she said, " Sorry Dr. Maan.. it was my fault and you're blaming the poor girl". Maan looked away in frustration and anger, " It better not happen again Dr. Geet..." Maan looked around and stormed out of the room.
Sonali was crying a little bit and Geet hugged her, " Dr. Sonali.. you know how Dr. Maan is... its okay...it was not your fault and you're an intern and you're bound to make mistakes sometimes". Sonali stopped crying for a second and said, " Maam.. why did you take the blame..." " I'm not only your senior doctor but a mentor and a friend...so don't worry.. I'll deal with Dr. Maan". said Geet as she wiped the last of Sonali's tears. Sonali smiled a little, " Thank you maam..." Geet put her hand on her cheek, " Just be careful". Geet smiled and she checked around and helped Sonali and then she left.
Geet walked out of the ward and she stopped for a second... she was so tired.. fatigued... it hadn't even been a stressful day except when Maan yelled at the poor girl. She took a deep breath and she walked on massaging her head. As she was walking she saw the cardio ward... she didn't like going there... infact she hated it! She took a deep breath again and she stepped inside.
She saw Dr. Maan tending to a patient who was having a heart attack. Her mind went into a complete fuzz and she started to feel a little dizzy... she felt weak at her knees and she took the support of the wall.She felt like she couldn't breathe. Geet looked around and she needed to get out of there. Just then Dr. Maan turned around and he saw Geet. He frowned and as she saw him she quickly ran out of the ward. She rushed down the hallways and Maan could hear her. " Yash... you handle it... I'll be back". Maan ran out of the ward and he ran behind Geet who was pretty fast for a girl on heels.
" Dr. Geet!" called Maan. Everyone turned their attention towards Geet and Maan. Geet ran into the side exit of the hospital.
