PART 4

The office clock struck 11pm and Nupur was still going through the documents when she suddenly heard a knock on the door.

Nupur: " come in."

Mayank entered the office and found Nupur surrounded by heaps of sheets . her brows were knitted and she was nibbling her lower lip, a habbit of hers since childhood. Mayank knew it too well . she was tense and he could feel it.

For a long moment Mayank stood in the doorway , looking at the worried girl sitting infront of him. He had a sudden urge to wipe the worry lines from her forehead and pull her in his arms.. he wanted to …

Mayank shook himself… he could not let his thoughts go astray… he was just there to guide her and he will have to stick to that.

Decision made, He coughed to get her attention.

Nupur looked up. Her eyelids were too heavy and she had to blink twice to make sure it wasn't a dream. She even pinched herself for that matter.

And then it hit her that Mayank Sharma was indeed standing infront of her.

Nupur sprang up, " helo Mayank!"
Mayank: " hi Nupur…. "

He stood there for a moment while Nupur's eyes were busy feasting on his face until she realized…

" errmm… take a seat Mayank."

And then she looked around to find a seat for him but in vain. The office was a mess with clusters of files everywhere. She moved forward to make some space when he interrupted: " no need for that. it is pretty late to stay in office. come I will drop you home."

Nupur looked up confused, and then realized he was offering to drop her home. Her eyes lit up at the suggestion and Mayank wondered if it was the right decision after all. Nevertheless he turned around and left Nupur to follow.

Samrat: " Gunjan you need rest. So bhe jao ab!"

Gunjan : " kese so jaon mein! Nupur ka aj pehla din tha college mein. Jb tak wo wapis aa kr mujhe call nahe krte tb tk how can I go to sleep."

Samrat smiled at the picture his wife portrayed lying on the bed with that thoughtful expression on her face. He understood the anxiety Gunjan felt. Even he was tensed by this bold decision of Nupur and wished things would work out for her.

Gunjan: " Samrat.."

Samrat got up from the arm chair and went to sit beside his wife, " hmmm…"

Gunjan: " tmen kya lagta hai?"
Samrat : " kis bare mein?"

Gunjan sitting up, : " Nupur aur Mayank bhai ke bare mein aur kiske bare mein?"

Samrat: ( grining) " mujhe lagta hai ke agr tum ab na soye to dono se mujhe dant pare ge!"

Gunjan: " very funny! Batao na Samrat?"
Samrat ( sighs) : " I don't know…all I know is that they both are grownups who can make their own decisions."

Gunjan watching the irritated expression on his face felt guilty and hugged him, " you think I do wrong by helping Nupur?"

Samrat hugged her back and kissing her forehead: " nahe Gunjan… I know you are just fulfilling your duty as a friend but…"

Gunjan: " but what Samrat?"

Samrat: " but I guess its high time you be a good girl and get some sleep!"

He kissed her on her cheek and made her lie down, " goodnite sweetheart."

Gunjan: " goodnite Sam…"

Gunjan knew her husband well and loved him very much. she would have never liked doing anything he forbid her to do but she knew he understand her…. she smiled at him before he switched off the light and came to lie beside her.

Nupur was playing with her ring getting irritated by every minute. Since five minutes ago when she sat in his car, he had not spoken a word. She herself was at a loss to what to say to him asusual and had to wait until he spoke up.

Mayank on the other hand was busy shaping his thoughts. He wasn't sure he had made the right decision but he had no other choice after Mr Bushan requested him.

Finally realizing the silence between them was becoming poignant , he said : " Nupur your dad came to me and told me about your decision."

Nupur felt her heart stop for a minute. What if her father was unhappy by her decision and had gone to Mayank to make her walk out? What will she do if he ask her to back out? How will she refuse Maaynk the only thing he ever asked of her?

She was still wondering when Mayank spoke up, " personally I don't think this is a field for women, specially not young ones like you.."

Nupur felt something hard fell in the pit of her stomach but she cut him in, something she never knew she had the courage to do, " Mayank if you are here to persuade me to change my decision then you are wasting your time."

She bit her lip as soon as she saw the look of disbelieve on Mayank's face. Maaynk had never expected her to refuse him and was shocked to see this new side of her. but he liked it too. It gave her a more mature look.

Nupur: " I am sorry Mayank, I don't want to argue with you but I am steadfast on my decision. I have to save my father's dream."
she looked at him with pleading eyes, requesting him to accept her decision.

Mayank's heart melted at the look. He had no intention of making her walk out of the decision but he had doubts earlier. However now he knew he ahd made the right decision.

Mayank: " I am not here to persuade you to back out as you put it. infact I am here to tell you that I am with you in this decision."
Nupur looked up shocked.

Nupur: " you mean… you are trying to tell me…"

Mayank looked her in the yes and smiled: " yes miss Nupur Bushan. I am going to help you save your father's decision".
