Hello there!
So yea, here's my comment.
You already know my opinion on TDA, since I was the first to read and give feedback. Yay!
But I'm commenting, properly, anyway.
Title: 'The Devil's Advocate'. Well, when you first told me you're writing another OS, I was just like, NO!!, because I wanted to read your good-for-nothing SS, which still keeps me awake at night, in anticipation. But then I read the title of your story, and I was like, WOAH! I have GOT to read this. And so I did read it. And lo & behold, there I was clinging onto your every word, because I was so hooked. The title needs the credit for this though, because it was the title which made me read it with interest in the first place. I was more interested in your SS, but then, well...
The Concept: New, and although may have been told before, I have never read anything so genius myself. It was, so darn intriguing. Had me saddened, because of the ordeal Riddhima was facing, but then, when I realized who Armaan was, the Devil's Advocate, and where you were leading the story, I really fell in love with the theme: The Worst has to happen for the Best to come around. Like I told you in my last PM. LOL! But yea, the concept had me speechless.
The Characters:
Riddhima – I can't say I love her. I mean, yea, I admire her for being so strong and all, but yea, its only the Devil's Advocate himself who steals the limelight. But that always happens, so eh. You know I ain't a big fan of Riddhima.
But, yea, the way you've portrayed her trauma, from the psychological impacts, to the emotional draining, to the physical need of being comforted, and to the whole loneliness issue. Kudos. I especially LOVED the whole suicide-attempt bit, it really brought out her state of mind really well. Like there were frequent disclosures of her mental state, but that suicidal tendency you showed in her really brought it out into the clear. I mean, obviously, she is bound to feel like her life is over, and she may never have what a normal girl would have. What she could have had before that b**tard Sahil came around.
I, however, cannot call her weak, in spite of her suicidal tendencies. She's still damn strong to be sitting in the court-room, standing in the witness box, and keeping her head high in spite of all that that happened.
Rahul – I see him as the older, protective brother. There may not be a blood relation there, but he's exactly like an elder brother, and he's played his role PERFECTLY. Being Riddhima's defence, and plus being her best friend, could not have been a very pleasurable experience, because seeing your own sister-like friend going through that trauma, and wanting to fight for her is one thing, but I'm sure he was fearing what would happen if he lost the case. He would feel personally responsible for it. But all said and done, he's played his job to perfection. Perfect lawyer, perfect best friend.
Muskaan – Why am I not surprised? She's the headstrong, calm one, although she too is very protective of Riddhima. I mean, who wouldn't be, after what happened, but the way you've protrayed them both, I can tell, that both Rahul and Muskaan were this protective of Riddhima before all that happened to her. Maybe it was because Riddhima didn't have a family. Maybe.
I love her though, being so calm through it all, but yet her anger, her sadness, her helplesslness, her love for Riddhima, all clearly shown, and I loved the last bit where she encourages Armaan to go talk to Riddhima, whilst Rahul is skeptical. Haha, that had me in splits. Poor Rahul is always dominated by Muskaan in every story!
Sahil – I am not allowed to abuse on a public forum, sorry.
And finally –
The Devil's Advocate – Although there are no words to describe him to perfection, there are a million words I can still say about him. I'm not going to, though, because well, I'm sleepy, first thing, and second thing, none of which I'm going to say is going to be anything out of the blue. You've heard it all before. He's Armaan, for the love of God.
But yea, so I love him. A lot. Like a hell lot. No surprises there. But this time, all fantasised good-looks, appealing dimples, and to-die-for-smile-and-body, aside, I love him because of the way you've portrayed him. The Devil's Advoacate. There, but not completely there. How he is misjudged just because he's fighting for a rapist, and not against. How he falls in love with exactly the same woman he was fighting a case against. His helplessness, his guilt, his persona, just made me love him more. But what really caught my attention was, that he stuck to his duty until the end. Yea, he helped Riddhima win the case, no doubt, by giving Rahul that hint, but if he wanted, he could have just backed out of the case anyway. If he was the best lawyer, he would get another thousand cases like these, which could fund his father's treatment, but he didn't back out. He still did his job, although not whole-heartedly, but not completely negatively either.
In short, I love the Devil's Advocate – the person himself, and the story which revolves around him. Do I need say more?!
Now update your super-annoying, good-for-nothing SS. Before I kill you. Virtually. No pressure.Originally posted by: Sanaa629
