"Geet!" Maan cried seeing his wife. "Jiji, kya hua isse?" Maan asked, his voice vibrating with worry.

Kirty moved forward, grasping Geet's face, clamping her fingers over the girl's chin and tilting her head up. She gasped staring at the girl's eyes, they were hazy and blurred, and her irises suddenly appeared twice their usual size....

Geet began fighting, thrashing her arms and legs, trying to struggle out of Maan's grasp. Kirty frowned. "Hold her!" she ordered Maan, who, still in shock, obeyed by tightening his arms around his wife.

"Naintara, you hold her legs" Kirty ordered, her hands rummaging through her medical case, trying to find the vial she was looking for.

Kirty held a vial with a clear liquid and took out the string "It's a sedative," She said when Maan raised his brow in question. "She'll have to take it."

Kirty took hold of Geet's left arm, struggled to unhook her sleeve because of the kangans she was wearing, pushed her sleeve up, rubbed the area below the inside of her elbow with the chemical cotton swab, and quickly gave her the sedative shot. "There.... the thrashing should stop in few minutes...." Kirty declared sticking the small bandage over the injected area and pulled the sleeve down.

It took less than two minutes before Geet stopped her thrashing, her body growing too heavy and she feeling too weak to even move her hand. Her hands that had held onto pati slumped down limply, her throat raw from screaming, her face damp with sweat and tears of agony. Her breathing evened, her eyelids feeling too heavy, slowly closed and soon she lost her consciousness, the last thing she saw was her pati's eyes staring down at her in concern, his voice whispering her name softly.... soothingly.... she thought she heard that voice numerous times when she had slumped into a deep sleep....

"Naintara, you can let go now. Maan, please settle her comfortably" Kirty said, throwing the vile and injection in the garbage as she watched Naintara shifting off the bed and Maan lifting Geet's body off him and placing her gently on the bed.

"Veeray, please go get a towel; damp it in warm water" Naintara instructed staring at Geet. Maan nodded his head and entered his bathroom, picked a small towel from the closet, soaked it lightly in warm water, stepped out from the bathroom and extended the wet towel to his sister.

"Don't give it to me, go and wipe Geet's face with it" Naintara exclaimed pushing her brother's hand away.

"Me?" Maan looked incredulous at his sister's order; she ignored him and settled herself on the couch next to her friend. Maan stomped his foot in anger and stalked up to his bed, where his wife of two days was resting, his anger dissolved as his gaze fell on his wife's innocent face.

"Maan, please take out all that jewelry from her first, it must be very uncomfortable for her" Kirty pointed out. Maan nodded his head in anger, grumbling about having to follow orders from his sister and her friend.

"Shaadi ki hai toh itna toh karna hi parta haina mere Veeray" Naintara teased seeing Maan's anger. Kirty smiled softly along with Naintara; she knew her friend was only trying to lighten the atmosphere.

"Was that really necessary, Naintara?" Kirty asked a smiling at Naintara.

"haan, zaroori tha, yeh choti choti cheezien rishta banane ke liye zaroori hothi hain.... and besides I don't believe in only women doing pati's seva, karne do Maan ko bhi aapni patni ki seva" Naintara said in a quite whisper.

"Yeh toh tumne Myra se seekha hoga" Kirty remarked.

Naintara nodded her head in agreement "haan, unhi se seekha, ek hi toh cheez aati hai unhe, aapne pati se patni ki seva karana"

"He cares for her that is very obvious, Naintara" Kirty said staring at Maan, who was slowly, gently removing the heavy jewelry that adorned Geet's neck.

"Yes, he does, but like a protective and obsessive husband not like a loving and caring husband" Naintara clarified.

"Goodness! Naintara!" Kirty exclaimed staring at her friend incredulously "Give him time, it's just been only two days since he married her, you can't expect him to already be in love with her, it will take time...." Kirty pointed out.

"I know but I am afraid of his possessive nature, you know how he is.... he is worried about her but not because she is Geet, but because she is his wife and it hurts his ego for not knowing what caused such pain in his wife. He is different Kirty, very possessive of things that belong to him, so much so that I am afraid he might forget the difference between a thing and a person. I can already see the possessiveness in him regarding Geet, you should have seen his eyes this morning when Geet had looked at him for permission to take the gifts. It was a boost to his male ego, I can already see how controlling and overprotective he might get about Geet" Naintara explained her worry to Kirty in a low whisper not wanting for her brother to hear her talk. Kirty nodded her head in understanding... she now understood why exactly Naintara did not notice Geet's behavior; it was because she was too observed with studying her brother....

"Understandable, but you are worrying for no reason, look at Geet, she is a beauty and from what you have told a decent, educated and a very patient girl. It won't take long for Maan to fall in love with Geet" Kirty said, knowing she was lying, Geet might be all that but she was not mature, she had no self-confidence but then if the girl can handle the years of abuse and neglect then she can very well handle her husband's possessive nature.... If there was one thing Kirty knew after hearing about Geet from him then that was that Geet had the strength and patience to handle any kind of situation....

"That's what I am afraid of, Maan's possessiveness and overprotective behavior will only get worse once he starts loving her" Naintara spoke, her low voice conveying her worry.

"And so you think by making him do all this taking care of Geet will prevent that?"

"It might, I want him to care for her as an individual not because she is his wife but at the same time I want him to know that she is his wife and his responsibility but without all that over-protectiveness.... I want there to be equal balance in their relationship, I can't handle any dominance and from what I have seen of Geet, she can easily be controlled. I want him to take care of her, looking into her little needs and think about her feelings and wishes..."

"Basically you want him to be like Dev not like your grandfather! Is that right? You are afraid he might be like nanaji?" Kirty asked.

Naintara nodded her head "Yes, I am afraid he might turn out to be as dominating and possessive like nanajji, I already see so much of him in Maan and it sometimes scares me...."

"Naintara, you are worrying for nothing, that will not happen, stop worrying yourself over such things and live in today not fear the future" Kirty advised her friend, shaking her head at Naintara's worry but inwardly her worry resurfaced Kirty's worry and she resolved not to tell anyone about Geet, not to Maan and not even to them..... She was ready to face their anger when the time came but for now she will let Naintara handle Geet....

Maan shook his head, rolled his eyes as he turned his back to his sister and settled himself on the bed beside his wife. For a minute he sat there just staring at her, his hand moved to brush the hair that stuck on her damp face, he reached his hand towards hers and lifted her hand and gently started removing her bangles. He laughed inwardly, at the situation, he had imagined himself removing her jewelry but he did not imagine his wife to be unconscious and definitely not in front of his sister and her doctor friend. He turned his head, peering at them over his shoulder, they were immersed in their talk, he strained his neck trying to listen to their conversation but couldn't hear anything, he smiled knowing that they made sure he couldn't hear anything... he looked down at his wife's hand in his,a frustrated sigh escaped him.... he sometimes hated his sister for putting him in such situations, she should at least have the decency to leave him alone with his wife..... but no she sat on his couch with her doctor friend whispering and most probably discussing him! He quickly removed the remaining bangles and left the engagement ring on her purposely, he wanted to see her wearing that ring... after all she was his wife and that ring indicated that she was taken!

He moved on to remove her earrings, moved her hair away from her ear and unhooked the earring, and shifted to her other ear, cursing his luck; he had planned out the night so perfectly, there were going to be flowers, candles and a dinner on the porch. He had wanted to have a private dinner with his wife, talk with her, ease her discomfort and start their new life together but... he ended up hearing her anguished screams and staring at her terror filled eyes. Maan sighed in disappointment, placed the earrings on the night table beside the bangles, leaning down lifted his wife a little and moved her hair from her back, his hand struggled, his fingers tangled in her thick long hair. He muttered a curse as he tried to untangle his hand "So much hair!" he exclaimed softly to himself after withdrawing his hand from Geet's hair. He quickly unhooked the many necklaces that adorned her neck, with the exception of mangalsutra, again not wanting to remove that from her neck, the sign that claimed she was his... his eyes gazed at her face, his hand caressed her long thick hair... her eyes were closed and her breathing even while Maan tried to control his breathing, he had a sudden urge to caress her check, reach down and kiss her but the thought of his sister and Jiji sitting there on his couch and watching him drained all his urges and had him muttering curses at them and at his situation!

He took hold of the soaked towel and began wiping the makeup smudged and damped with tears face of his wife. It was when he descended the towel down towards her neck, he noticed the gashes.... alarmed at seeing them he quickly called out to his sister "Didi!"

Naintara looked up towards her brother, seeing his worried face abruptly walked towards him with Kirty behind her. "Kya hua?" Naintara asked standing beside the bed.

"look at this?" Maan pointed at Geet's neck showing his sister and Jiji, her neck was the color of dark red/purple, it formed the imprint of the necklaces she was wearing. He had been distracted by her hair to take notice of the rashes when he was removing the necklaces.

"Let me have a look" Kirty said, sitting on the edge of the bed. Kirty grasped Geet's chin, gently lifted her head and examined her neck, her fingers tracing over the bruise on Geet's neck, she moved the girl's hair to look at her ears, dark purple, her eyes shifted down to the girl's hand. She gently lifted her hand and looked at her wrist, she saw the light rashes on them too but not as deep as the ones on her neck.

"Infection?" Naintara asked her friend as she too looked at Geet's neck.

"No, not really" Kirty answered, her fingers rubbing on Geet's neck.

"Then what?" Maan asked, his eyes fixed on his wife's neck, it was turning darker.

"Seems like her skin is very sensitive, all the jewelry has left those bruises on her. It happens, many people have sensitive skin and have to avoid wearing jewelry to prevent the itchiness and the rashes or maybe her skin is just not used to wearing such heavy jewelry?" Kirty stated, placing Geet's hand back on the bed.

"But all that jewelry, it's pure gold! Surely the skin can handle it?" Naintara defied finding it hard to believe.

"No, some people have very sensitive skin and even pure gold effects their skin" Kirty informed, stressing on the word very. "but then it might just be because her skin is not used to such jewelry" Kirty said, knowing this was most possible, Geet might have never worn any type of jewelry in her life and now all of a sudden wearing all that heavy jewelry must have infected her skin.

Naintara sighed loudly, sitting beside Kirty on the bed. "What more now, first that strange behavior, and now this skin complaint"

Maan looked at his sister, hearing her mention the incident had his mind replaying the horrific scene again when he had seen his wife scrunched on the floor, curled up in a ball, her eyes wide in terror, the tears that had descended down her cheek, the screams that had pierced his heart, the way her body had convulsed... He wanted to know..... he needed to know what had made her behave in such a way, what was it that scared her so much?.... she had said darkness... but the room had been lit with light, the party hall had been very bright and lively... then what had scared her so much, what had happened that caused his wife to be so unconscious of her surroundings... and whipping?.... why had she asked him such a question? and her voice..... the manner in which she had spoken.... It was in a little girl's voice, the soft trembling voice of a scared girl..... not the same voice he had heard last night when she talked in sleep.

"What had happened to her? Why was she acting like that? The screams and her eyes... I have never seen anything like that! What happened?" Maan asked looking at Jiji, wanting to know the reason behind his wife's behavior.
