Chapter 104: Girl Talk

"You know, I am starting to think that you don't really hate me as much as you say you do, girl." Thalia said as she swept into the tea room in a wide-skirted maxi dress that made her look at least three inches taller than her 5'7.

"Ah, would you look at that, you're almost almost as tall as me today. So close…" Gauri said as she lifted one eyebrow, looking Thalia up and down.

"It's alright dear. I don't need height to look down on people. It's a natural gift." Thalia replied without missing a beat as she sat down.

"Well, I am glad to hear that you have some natural gifts." Gauri retorted with a smile, pointedly looking at Thalia's chest.

"Oh come on! They are 100% real, but I am flattered that you think I look good enough to suspect the assistance of plastic or silicone. I have to say though, impending motherhood has certainly improved those mosquito-bites that you used to call breasts."

Gauri couldn't help but laugh out loud at that. "Oh wow! Mosquito-bites! I don't think that my assets – or lack-there-of – has ever been described so colorfully before."

Thalia smiled in response before adding, "Motherhood has also improved your sense of humor."

"Oh please! That has nothing to do with motherhood. I would have laughed before had I found you funny."

"Ah, yes, me being all over your man might have put a crimp in your humor… it's all coming back to me now…" Thalia said before taking on a pondering look and Gauri grinned.

"Well, now that we've dispensed with those pleasantries, to what do I owe the genuine pleasure of this visit?"

Gauri paused only a moment before she started, "Seeing as how my Midol was your savior not a week ago, I was thinking that you could return a favor."

"You gave Shaan the Midol that he coated in chocolate?" Thalia asked in surprise.

"He coated them in chocolate? Shashank? Really?"

Gauri watched a quick flush climb up Thalia's neck as she looked away.

"He really is sweet…" Gauri remarked and watched Thalia's cheeks get even more color. It was quite endearing really.

"So, how about that favor, huh?" she reminded, calling Thalia's attention back to the request, not wishing to put the woman on the spot any more than necessary.

"Hmm… New seduction plans? See, the last time you asked me for a favor, Gauri, I found myself running away from your stumped husband, pouring buckets of ice over my head. Such memories tend to make a woman wary…"

"This one involves no ice and no plant waters… as for seduction, well, that's not completely out of the equation. Let's just say that it may be a side-effect."

"Oh Lord, are you serious? I am quite comfortable with not seducing anyone anymore. Thank you though for thinking of me in this endeavor. I wish you the best of luck." Thalia made to get up and Gauri sat back on the couch.

"Oh, quit being so dramatic! I don't want you to seduce anyone other than your man. I said that seduction was a mere side-effect, not the main point."

Thalia tilted her head skeptically, yet again, as she sat back down. "What is the main point?"

"Have you ever done belly-dancing?"

"And if I have…" she asked, her eye-brows drawing together in distrust.

"How about crashing an exclusive event?"

"I am not sure I trust that evil gleam in your eye right now. But, I take it you are planning on joining this shimmy-shaking, showing-up-without-an-invitation venture with me?"

"Ah, not just us two… there are several more… but I wanted to rope you in before I told the others about it."

"Why?"

"Well, out of all the women I know, I figured that you would be the one who must have tried out the exotic arts, even if just for kicks."

"Have you?" Thalia asked in return without answering.

"Belly dancing? A bit… it was for a bachelorette party. So, it's not like I have any major experience to choreograph a routine or impart said knowledge to others."

"And you're thinking that I do?"

"Do you?"

Thalia took a moment to consider the question before she answered, "You're in luck."

"I knew it!" Gauri said with some definite excitement. "So, how many classes have you taken?"

"How many classes? Girl, please! Ask me how many years I studied?"

"Years? Really?"

"You meet all kinds of people in Goa. There was this Greek woman that I met there who was from a family of belly dancers. Goa was like her yearly retreat. Our visits seemed to coincide year after year… It's good exercise, you know?" she asked now, pouring them both tea and extending it to Gauri saying, "It's an herbal blend that's good for pregnant women. No caffeine either."

Gauri was taken aback for a moment by the thoughtfulness. "Thank you" she said when she recovered.

"Oh, it's nothing, really. You know what else is good exercise?" Thalia asked, getting back to their previous discussion without delay.

"What?"

"Pole-dancing. But that's definitely not recommended for pregos. So, we'll save it for another time. With your legs though, Gauri, you would drive Shiv nuts."

"Pole-dancing? Are you serious?"

"Let's just say that I had a lot of time on my hands when I was in Goa…"

"Jeez…"

"Yea… that's what he'll say when he sees you climb that pole…"
