My first post of 2011...Thought I will write about the night it arrived.
Me being the unofficially crowned DD of the gang, first went to pick up Ja from close to my place and then drove to Palo Alto to pick up Da and Ra.
3 guys and I were going to meet another couple at San Bruno and take the BART train to the city, which we did when our timelines were already running late by an hour.
Lucky us, when we got to Regency center, the general class lines were empty and we entered the dance floor within moments of arriving there.
That's when it all started....It was an almost black tie event and all of us were in jeans. First blow for the night. Lesson learnt: Never let a guy not going to the party book your tickets.
The party was in three levels and we looked for the floor where Mike Posner was going to show up, it was the second and had our coats checked in for payment. Nothing is free in such events you see.
My friends tried to loosen up, chugging some beers and other cocktails, while I stared at their empty gazes with Water, ice and a lemon to pass it for a Vodka tonic.
It was rewind theme and so we got a dose of old school music and frankly R&B and hip-hop didn't matter which year it came from; It was just not something I can get myself to enjoy and yet I did shake a leg, not wanting to appear odd.
Countdown....Mike showed up which was pretty sad, except for his "Cooler than me" and the rest, he sang like a girl. When the clock stuck 1.15, I was at my usual job of herding the wasted gang to get out. Succeeded after a number of calls and scouring two levels we got out at 1.45 to face the rains in the city.
Walked a mile in the shower, with the chillness shooting up my spine, two drunk guys by my side (Ra and Ja are harmless trust me) and the rest in a cab to get to Naan N Curry.
Second punch, we ended up in the wrong Naan N Curry, so walked another mile and got to the one open 24 hrs after an hour of walking under the pouring heavens.
Finally free hot chai breathed back life in us, while we stood in the line to order Food.
Pure spirited, foot tapping punjabi songs on the speaker got us started into another dance session for another 1/2 hour. The owner sure would have cussed us for starting the chain...it went on as others joined us.
At 3.40 we got our food, settled for another chai and walked to BART once again to find that the trains shut at 3.00. No cabs and I was now down to my third blow as we stood there in the freezing cold and rain.
An angel came down to help us and sported us back to San Bruno where I had parked my car.
Back to DD duty that I was, I kicked off one by one at their respective apartments and landed home at 5.00 AM. I just had to...no seriously had to get my feet warmed up and so had a hot shower and crashed to wake up only an hour back.
That was New Year's bash for me. I was at MOANY (Short for Mother of All New Years's party rated 7th in the US) but seriously any other Club would have done a better job. Mera Hundred tho baad main gaya.
Strangely I didn't regret one moment of doing what I did, because anything else would not have given me such lasting memories. The people that I was with is what made my night and they can give some touch competitions to even circus clowns, so there you go, there were no blows there.
The dancing, walking, shivering, talking, laughing, raining, herding, emailing, eating and of course our ill luck at places was the perfect Melange of all that I could have got to start the year with...in just one night from life.
Please post about how your New Year night was. I'm planning to finish Rooftop today and will post.
