Maaneet - SS
Chapter 2
Geet was sitting on the bench which was on the balcony. The sky above was pitch black, and a cold breeze was seeping through Geet's bones.
Geet was thinking about her past. The past which no-one knows about.
Geet heard the bedroom door open. But she didn't move to go and see who it was. She was still trapped in that past. The past which she really wants to forget and move on with her damn life.
Maan, who had just returned from Khurana Constructions, was confused.
Maan: "Where is Geet? I thought she would be asleep" he thought to himself
Maan went up to the washroom door and stepped inside the washroom. Maan's heart started to beat faster. She wasn't there.
He felt a breeze enter the bedroom. He looked at the balcony door. It was slightly ajar. Maan breathed a sigh of relief and entered the balcony.
He saw Geet sitting on the bench. Her dubatta wasn't properly on her. It was just slid down her shoulder, trying to fly away because of the wind. But she didn't care. A tear escaped her eye.
Maan immediately knew something was bothering her. He knew Geet was the type of girl who would just move on and forget about an incident. So what was she thinking about now?
Maan went up to Geet and sat beside her.
Maan: "Whats wrong?" he said gently, but sternly.
Geet broke out of her trance and looked up at Maan surprisingly. Then stiffened.
Geet: "Have you had anything to eat? I'll go get your food" she said quickly and was about to get up when Maan stopped her.
Maan: "Your not going anywhere until you answer my question" he said
Geet relaxed, and rested her back against the bench.
Geet: "Can I trust you?" she asked
Maan was surprised. He felt touched, that Geet wanted to trust him.
After Maan recovered from the sudden, but small shock, he nodded. Indicating for her to speak.
Geet: "Do you know why my parents weren't at the wedding to bless me?" she asked
Maan shook his head in a negative.
Geet: "It's because I don't have any parents" she said sadly
Maan was shocked. He didn't expect to hear this from a young girl like her.
Geet: "They died in a fire. I completed my graduation so I decided to come back home. I lived in Glasgow and my father sent me money so I can settle in. I used the last of my money to come back to my hometown, Hoshiarpur. Once I arrived at my mansion, I saw the thing I never expected to see. My house was slowly burning down to ashes, and so were my parents. I didn't have anywhere to go. I didn't have any money, but I met my friend Pinky who came to Hoshiarpur to meet her cousin. She took me back to where she normally lives, which is here in Delhi. And thats how I came here and met you. But I'm still stuck in the past. I can still remember vividly. I saw my own parents, my own house burn into dust. I wish I came earlier, so I didn't have to see all that"
Maan felt tears form up in his eyes for the first time in years. He was about to comfort her but she said something.
Geet: "And you know the question you asked me yesterday? Why I agreed to the alliance despite you telling me to say no? Well, it's because Daadima has a hole in her heart. She won't be living long, and I can't bare to see another person dying. I had to say yes. After all, it was her last wish" she ended her story, and looked away, closing her eyes. She didn't want to see the pain in Maan's eyes anymore.
Maan just stared at her. The words 'Daadima has a hole in her heart' was ringing in his ears. The last person he loved in the world was going to go away from him.
Maan just realized that Maan and Geet had similar stories that happend in their past. At least he has a wife who would understand him better.
Maan: "Geet... I'm... I'm sorry" he said and his voice cracked up. He looked away
Geet looked back at Maan.
Geet: "No Maan. I'm sorry. For not telling you this before our wedding. But you need to spend all the time you have with Daadima. She won't live for long, and she needs all the strength to live her last days"
Maan looked back at Geet. He stared in her eyes intently.
Maan: "Such big and beautiful eyes. I have never seen them before" he thought to himself
Geet smiled sympathetically.
Maan couldn't take it anymore. He broke down into Geet's arms. He hugged her so tight, Geet couldn't breath.
Geet's eyes went wide.
Geet: "What's he DOING?" she thought to herself. She hesitated for a minute but responded to the hug.
After a few seconds she felt a drop of water fall onto her hand. Then another, then another, and before she knew it, it was raining hard.
Maan broke from the hug. He turned stiff.
Maan: "Not AGAIN!" he said aloud and ran back inside. Geet was the complete opposite of Maan. She stood up, and started dancing in the rain.
Maan realized Geet hadn't come inside, he turned around but saw something he never expected to see.
Through the glass doors, Maan could see that Geet was dancing in the rain. The saree she was wearing had gripped her body tightly, so her curves could be seen.
Maan: "I never thought she even had a chest" he thought to himself as he saw her hopping and skipping.
Maan continued watching Geet playing with the rain silently. Eventually, Geet realized he was staring at her. She smiled and exited the balcony and walked up to Maan.
Geet: "Come outside! It's really fun!" she said
Maan: "Uh... No thanks" he said politely
Geet: "What do you mean 'No Thanks'? I love rain!" she said looking outside through the glass doors.
Maan: "I hate rain" he said through gritted teeth.
Geet was shocked and confused. He hated rain?
Geet: "You hate rain? Does that mean you hate nature?" she asked
Maan: "I hate anything to do with nature. Especially rain, and flowers" he said looking away
Geet: "Come here" he said and dragged Maan by his arms and entered the balcony again.
Geet: "See this rain? It makes me feel relaxed. It takes all my troubles away. I just dance, and dance, and let the rain fall on me to wash all my sins and troubles away. I just let it happen. You should try it sometime" she said
Maan: "No thanks" he said and looked up at the sky with a disgusted face. Geet just made a funny face and exited the balcony
Maan still thought about what she had just said. He went up to the bench and sat back down, and leaned his head back. He did as she adviced him to do. He just let it happen.
Geet went downstairs into the garden, and bought some red and white roses, and sprinted back upstairs. She put the flowers in the empty vase on the coffee table, and then looked at Maan through the glass doors. She entered the balcony again, and sat down beside him.
Geet: "What do you intend to do? Sleep right here?" she said teasingly
Maan broke out of his trance with a startle. He literally jumped.
Maan: "What the hell Geet? I was relaxing!" he said and looked away in anger
Geet: "I thought you said 'No Thanks'?" she said and smirked
Maan: "I changed my mind. Just like you did yesterday about the pain" he said and smiled
Geet: "Come here" she said and took his arms. She dragged him back inside and made him sit in front of the vase.
Geet: "Look at these roses. What's the first word you think of in your mind when you see these flowers?" she asked
Maan: "Uh... I don't know, disgusted" he said and looked away
Geet: "The first word I can think of when I see these roses, is brightness. Without flowers, this world wouldn't be so colourful. Without nature, this world would be dull" she explained
Maan: "Alright" he said, still looking away
Geet rolled her eyes in defeat
Geet: "You know what? Your so BORING" she said and stood up
Maan was striken by these words.
Maan: "Boring?" he repeated and stood up
Geet: "Yeah, boring. Your the most boring-est person in the whole entire universe. How can anyone talk to you, let alone stay with you? All you talk about is work. Your so angry all the time, your such a dusht dhanav" she said, and turned her face away from Maan
Maan: "Dhusht dhanav?" he hissed angrily
Geet: "Yep. DHUST DHANAV" she said even louder
Maan was thinking of a way to get revenge. He looked at his pajama's laid out on the bed, ready for him to change into. He had an idea. An evil smirk formed on Maan's mouth.
