Chapter 2: Tum? Abhi'Yahan? Is waqt?
"Geet hurry up please, we have people waiting!" said Ronny a man over 55 with a big belly but a good heart and an accent said.
"I'm hurrying I'm hurrying, don't rush me, this time of the day is the busiest''..Women can't cook so their rich husbands with money to spare, or simply don't want to hear their wives bickering'.. bring them here for dinner" she said to Ronny who looked kind of hurt by her statment.
"And the food is awesome and 1000 times better than the distasteful food women feed their men" she added with a huge fake smile.
"You know your too much, that is exactly why I open restaurant'.wife no make good food I say I open restaurant!!"
Geet giggled at his dramatic hand actions and serious expression'.she loved his funny accent he always made her smile.
She got to work serving people quickly.
He walked in now with his Dadi and in style walked up to the reception.
"Reservation, Maan Singh Khurana" he said to the chubby but cute receptionist.
She gave the card to the host.
"Yes sir right this way" the host who stood looking at him. He then led them to the table in the centre.
"Dadi, what would you like to eat?" asked Maan.
"I would like number 32" she said looking at the waiter and then smiling at Maan.
"49, and easy on the sauce" he said giving back the menu.
"Maan, sweety why are you always angry, the poor waiter didn't do anything" she said analyzing her grandson's stone hard expression.
"Dadi, I can't laugh for no reason, all the time. I laugh and talk to whom I feel" he said as usual being his stuck-up self.
"Beta, that's not the way. You made me come with you and now you won't even talk" she said upset.
"Fine I'll-" but he was interrupted.
"Your order maam" the waitress said smiling a half-smile.
"Thank You" said Dadi.
Maan who was stunned to see the BARTENDAR gulped a glass of water down.
How did she get here? What if she tells dadi?
Geet stood there smirking and he knew exactly why.
"Beta, are you okay?" Savitri Devi asked worried seeing him all panicky all of a sudden.
"Uh,yeah fine'.absolutely fine" he said quietly.
"Anything to drink maam?"
"Can I have one lemon tea, no ice please" Savitri said smiling.
"You have beautiful eyes" Savitri said to Geet who now smiled fully.
"Thank you" she said looking over at Maan from the corner of her eye.
He avoided eye contact.
"Anything for you sir?" she asked smirking again.
Before he could say anything she spoke.
"Oh you want your usuals right'.umm'what one a French vanilla cappuccino with whisky, or a scotch?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
Dadi who was confused now looked at Maan demanding an explanation.
"Um, I'll take coke, with ice please" he said loosening his tie.
Geet controlled her laughter when he said please.
The man who was giving her so much arrogance had now said please to her. Interesting, how one can switch the game around. Now she was the one ticking him off.
"Maan your usual? And how does she know?" Dadi asked furrowing her brows.
"Dadi the drinks are very popular here I suppose" he said nervous.
If this girl told his grandma that he went to the bar, and about the girls and all he would be in deep deep trouble.
"Oh okay" Dadi said looking at Geet who just rolled her eyes.
She came back to give the bill and noticed that Savitri Devi had gone. Probably to the bathroom.
"You almost got me killed today!" he said hissing.
"Did i?" she said being innocent.
"But thanks for not bursting my bubble" he said taking a sigh of relief.
"I thought that you were very stuck-up and arrogant, one little secret and you have bowed down?" she said raising an eyebrow.
"Listen Geet, every man has his moments" he said paying the money.
"Okay then" she said picking the bill up.
"By the way you work here too?" he asked playing with the pen she gave him.
Then he looked up to smile charmingly.
"Everyone doesn't have it easy like you!" she said still with attitude.
"Hey, let's not get to each others bad side, let's just''.be friends" he said offering.
"I don't accept friendships very easily" she said walking away.
"Attitude" he said under his breath thinking she didn't hear.
"It's not attitude baby, it's personality" she said turning to wink.
He smiled wow the girl was smart and witty, and she was pretty. But in the dim light at the bar she appeared gorgeous. Now he could see her washed out complexion and the tiredness visible in those eyes, and her hairstyle. She just made her self appear old and dull she could look a million times better. Tied up hair and no glow obviously now from the two jobs, he thought.
Geet sat on her bed hugging her knees and praying to Babaji. She had always remembered and thanked babaji no matter what. In tough times or happy times-which were rare but occasionally popped up into her dull life.
She now remembered Maan and how he had sweetly asked her to be friends.
"I have no time for friendship, and glamour" she said before closing her eyes.
He sat there beside his dadi caressing her forehead. She was all he had and she was not in a state of well being. She was getting sick and he tried to not be the cause of her worries. He now had to make sure that she was happy and tension free.
He fell asleep thinking about Geet and how she had worked two jobs and those innocently sad eyes. Her eyes were as deep as a well and if she let him he could sit there forever just reading her eyes.
Precap:
"Don't say you don't have time!" he said smirking.
"I have no time it's true" she said glumly.
"Why the hell are you always sad and depressed your not the only one who has problems!!!!" he said shouting.
She stopped to look at him into the eyes, then smiled a sad smile.
"Can we go or do you want me to shout louder!" he said not being able to hold his angry tone for long and grabbed her waist smiling.
She gasped at his reaction.
