Oh dear Lord. Tia, you had to resurrect all my psychology lessons so early on in the update, didn't you? I had them reeling in me all thoughout!
But that put aside, what an eventful update! Finally some truths peek through, just to wait for it to come out to the right people now.
Glad you had Dev and NT confess in front of Myra. It will show why Myra still contains a soft spot for Dev despite his heinous crimes!

VERY well written. Full on suspense and drama packed in this part - Awesome work Titli!!

The way you've described Geet's condition is just heartbreaking... What's Maan gonna do??? With his horrid half-realisation I've no idea how he's gonna handle whatever he is set out to do...

Love Myra (played by Jennifer lol) in this part - her lines were pretty awesome. Everything flowed brilliantly. The dialogue was really powerful throughout, along with all the wonderful detail of thought and feelings you've depicted!

Excellent update yaar! Hoping for more Very Soon!

hey..nice part..

Geet was unconscious n everyone was really worried for her..the doc said that something of the past haunted her again..

maan is trying to think what it could be..n he's quite close to the truth..im sure it'll be hard for him when he knows the entire truth..

myra is shocked that dev is the father of geet's child.n she slaps him..he deserves that..but im glad he's changing atleast..she tells him not to tell maan about it as he's really worried ryt nw..

nayantara asks dev not to tell maan..so that she's safe..ugh, she's so selfish. Dev and myra respond back to her properly. Hope she's gone for good..

thnx 4 d pm

Hey everyone!

Anyone remember me? lolz.

Apologies for keeping everyone waiting for sooo... long but alas, couldn't help it. My smartphone, which was teetering on the verge of death, finally collapsed and took away my ffs too (I seriously need a notebook PC). It was a long while before I could revive some stuff. So here's an update for those who're still interested in the FF. I don't know how and when I'll be updating again. Hope it's soon!

Until then, do read and leave your feedback and if people are no longer interested in this FF, then let me know, I'll discontinue it!

About PMs, you have to be in my list to receive one. So kindly check and do the needful.

Cheers!

Chp. 4 Stay by my side.

A blanket of deep blue and inky black stretched across the sky with glittering stars which appeared like diamonds studded in a velvet cloak. The Khurana mansion was fast asleep in the cold night. Darkness prevailed in the mansion save for one room which glowed in the dark due to the light from the tiny night lamp glowing on the nightstand. The curtains swayed in the breeze, the rustle creating a faint music of its own. He sat beside her as she continued her journey in the realm of unconsciousness, unaware of the restlessness it caused within him at the sight of her lying limp before him. Her condition was still the same since the past five hours. She lay there unmoved, mumbling inaudible strange somethings from a time long away. At times she twitched, twisted and turned, and broke into a sweat. He watched helpless, unable to do anything, as he held her hand firmly between his and tried to offer comfort as much as seek it himself. He gently caressed her forehead and hair and whispered soothing words which he hoped would comfort her if she were to hear him.

She'd stilled into sleep and he'd spent the past forty-five minutes sitting there watching her. These had been the most calming, if not comforting, minutes of the past five hours that he'd spent by her side. He hadn't moved even for a glass of water, let alone dinner. The stress of the day and the anxiety of the past five hours were now taking a toll lulling him into sleep. He rested his head against the headboard, her hand still clasped in his, as he drifted off to sleep.

"NO! You can't do that... Wait! Stop! Don't leave me alone!... Help!... They'll kill me, help! Help! Please, no, stop! Aahh... Maaan!"

"Geet!" Maan jerked awake to find Geet thrashing on the bed, a sheen of sweat covered her forehead as she continued to ramble while yet unconscious.

"Shh... Geet, calm down. I'm with you. Geet, I'll always be by your side. No one's going to harm you. Calm down, love," Maan murmured soothingly while caressing her forehead.

The thrashing ceased and the rambling subsided to an incoherent muttering and soon she relaxed again. He heaved a sigh of relief. Whatever it was that was dominating Geet's mind and thoughts was serious and he'd have to consult a psychologist first thing in the morning. She needed attention. Until then, he'd make sure he didn't drift into sleep again and was awake if she came around during the night.

Three days. It had been three whole days since the engagement and Geet was under intensive care. Her condition had barely improved but it could still be termed better than that first night. The mumblings and mutterings had reduced which meant that the nightmares had subsided too. Today Dadi had asked Maan to join everyone for breakfast at the dining table below. He was reluctant to leave Geet alone but he couldn't disregard Dadi's wish either. He showered and dressed in a casual white shirt and blue denims and ordered Nakul, his housekeeper, to stay guard at his room, with strict instructions to not leave until he turned up after breakfast. Nakul knew better than to anger his master.

Maan descended the stairs and entered the dining room to find everyone present. Dadi sat at the centre, Nayantara sat to her left, Dev beside her and Myra opposite Dev. Maan studied everyone Nayantara was her usual self, her signature expression, calculative, firmly in place. Myra's face showed concern. Dadi seemed mildly curious, and he knew that she had umpteen questions whizzing in mind which she'd bring out one at a time at the right moment. He moved on to examine Dev and wasn't surprised to find that he had a somewhat guarded look. He seemed shifty and on edge as though some fear daunted him. Maan took his chair beside Dadi and greeted her, "Good morning, Dadima."

"Good morning, dear. How's Geet now?" the old lady queried.

"Much the same, I'm afraid." His tone was plain but Dadi didn't miss the frown lines creasing his brow as he buttered a toast.

"She'll improve, soon. I plan to visit the Vaishnodevi mandir today and pray for her well-being and a speedy recovery," she replied pouring herself a glass of orange juice.

"Thanks Dadima."

"Maan," Dadi placed her hand over his on the table, "I understand your concern for Geet but you can't let other things suffer."

"There are others for other things, Dadima."

Dev and Nayantara were silent spectators but Maan didn't let a single expression pass unstudied. He wanted to know, to figure out the mystery of these two.

"I know, but there are issues that have risen at Khurana Constructions, during your absence, and need looking into. It's the venture with the Raheja Group. They plan to terminate the contract if KC fails to furnish the final blueprints of the plan by Sunday," explained Dadi.

"Dadima, KC has qualified architects who can be trusted with the job without my hovering presence," replied Maan. "Where's Sasha? Being the senior architect she's responsible about this."

"Sasha has done what she could but the Rahejas want you to do the finishing touches," said Dadi.

"Their distrust of my employees shows their lack of trust in me. And in that case, they can find themselves another company," Maan said.

"Maan veerji, if you wis-" Nayantara was silenced with a searing glare.

"Maan, there are a few other matters which need considering too, and this venture will take KC's reputation to great heights. KC calls a Khurana. Do you want me back on the Board or you'd trust me with Geet?"

Maan raised a brow and looked at Dadi. He sighed and said, "Alright Dadi, I trust you with Geet."

Dadi smiled.

"Dev, when do you intend to return to KC?" asked Maan.

At the sudden mention of his name, Dev dropped his spoon on the plate with a clatter. Nayantara rolled her eyes and Maan gave him a questioning look.

"Whenever you say, bro."

"Right away."

Before Maan left for the office he asked Dadi once again, "Are you sure Dadi that caring for Geet won't be taxing for you? I mean, you haven't been keeping too well either, lately."

"Maan, rest assured, Geet will be well taken care of. Anvesha's coming back today," replied Dadi.

"Annie?"

Dadi nodded and smiled as Maan left.

It was late in the night when Maan returned to the Khurana Mansion. As his chauffer parked the car, he got out. It was unusually calm and a cold wind was blowing. He wondered how Geet was doing. It had been a long and tiresome day. Dadi had kept him informed, there was little improvement. He sighed wondering when would Geet be back to normal. He looked up at the window to his room, he wished Geet was standing there, waiting for him like she often stood at the outhouse window. A slight movement caught his eye and he froze. Someone had been standing there just seconds ago! Was Geet up?

He raced through the gardens, into the mansion and sprinted up the wide set of stairs leading to the first floor landing. He barged into his room and called, "Geet!"

"Maan bhai!"

It was Anvesha. She was sitting beside Geet who still lay motionless on the bed. Anvesha ran to Maan and hugged him.

"How are you, bhai?" she queried.

"I'm fine, Annie. What about you?" he asked as he released her. "Doing fantastic," Annie replied with a grin.

Maan smiled. His eyes darted to Geet once again and he asked, "Annie, did Geet wake up?"

"No bhai, not as yet."

"Were you standing at the window before I came in?" he asked warily.

"No bhai, I was right here. Haven't moved since the past two hours."

Maan was puzzled. He was absolutely sure he'd seen someone standing at the window. He sighed wistfully and sat beside Geet.

"Bhai..." Annie placed a comforting hand on Maan's shoulder, "Don't worry, Geet bhabhi will be hale and hearty soon, now that I'm here." She winked.

Maan smiled, "Thanks."

"But I must say, Maan bhai, your choice is as exotic as ever," she teased.

Maan raised a brow and gave her an amused look. She grinned and looked at Geet, "Pretty maiden, conqueror of Maan Singh Khurana's heart! So, how did the Princess meet the Prince?"

She stood at the window waiting for him as was her habit. She stood there every night and waited gazing at the star-splashed sky until she saw his shiny black Sonata drive in through the huge gates of the mansion into the driveway. As the chauffer would park the car and Maan'd get out, he'd first look up at the window and when their gazes locked, his face would always light up with a warm smile that tugged at the strings of her heart.

The night air had turned cool and balmy. The sky was dark with the moon eclipsed by the clouds. A few stars shimmered faintly. It was nearing midnight now but there was no sign of him. She waited, impatient and restless, for a glimpse of him. Her heart thudded as the daunting fear closed in around her. This was one fear that chilled her bones to the core and it daunted her more than ever, lately. What if he'd abandoned her? What if he'd learnt the truth and despised her? Hated her for being an unwanted part of their lives? She felt panic rise within her and her blood run cold. She took huge gulps of air as she found it difficult to breathe.

As she tried to calm herself, her ears registered the sound of gravel crunching on the asphalt as the tires rolled over it. She straightened and glanced down where, to her utter relief, she saw Maan's car enter in through the huge gates and come to a smooth halt in the parking area. Her heart skipped a beat as the backdoor opened and Maan stepped out. He lifted his gaze and Geet jumped back and disappeared behind the curtains. She peeped through them and the wistful look on his face was a relieving, yet saddening, proof that he hadn't seen her just like the past few days. This had been going on for the past four days now since that third day after her engagement when she'd awakened after that nightmare thrashing violently, pleading for her life and calling out to Maan. To her utter dismay and horror, Maan wasn't to be found in the room when she had regained her senses.

"Maan! Where's Maan? Who're you and where am I? Where's Maan? Tell me, where's Maan? Maan? Maan?" she'd shouted frantically, at a petite, young girl who was present in the room, as sweat beaded on her forehead and trickled down her cheeks.

"Sshh.. Calm down, calm down!" the girl replied, caressing her back.

"Where's Maan?" she asked again, warily as her heart pounded frantically.

"He's gone to the office, he'll be back soon," the girl replied soothingly.

"He'll be back, right? He hasn't abandoned me, has he?" she asked fear evident in her voice.

"Of course not, Geet. He'll be back soon. I'll inform him that you're awake. He'd he delighted to hear it," replied the girl as she dialled his number.

"NO!"

She stared at Geet, bewildered.

"I- I want some time," Geet whispered.

She stared at Geet strangely then nodded.

"Thanks," Geet muttered.

She went and stood at the window staring blankly into the night sky. Moments later, Maan's car drove in and he stepped out. He looked up and she sprang back but she feared he'd seen her.

"Maan's back and I think he's seen me," Geet announced to the girl.

She smiled at Geet but then her expression turned odd. Geet jumped back into bed and pulled the blanket over. "Please," she begged, "Please don't tell him."

She nodded and just as Geet closed her eyes, Maan barged in, "Geet!"

"Maan bhai!" she heard the girl say. "How are you, bhai?"

"I'm fine, Annie. What about you?"

"Doing fantastic."

"Annie, did Geet wake up?" Geet heard the concern in his voice and felt guilty. But she had to find a way to deal with this, ensure it be painless and avoid heartache.

"No bhai, not as yet," Annie lied to Geet's relief.

"Were you standing at the window before I came in?" Geet caught her breath. Maan had seen her!

"No bhai, I was right here. Haven't moved since the past two hours."

Geet relaxed and listened on as their conversation drifted on to other topics, and relieved that Maan was by her side, she drifted off to sleep.

It had been four days since then but Geet still hadn't been able to muster the courage to face Maan. She was afraid wondering how he'd react when she told him the truth. She was a coward. She didn't want to lose him. Annie had been patient with her till today and hadn't told Maan about anything. But today however, she'd given Geet an ultimatum.

"I'm sorry, Geet, but I can't keep this news from him anymore. I have to tell him. Either you talk to him tonight, or tomorrow morning I give him my report on your health. The choice is yours."

Now as she stood behind the curtains, hiding from his view, she didn't know how she was going to do it. She knew that he'd come straight to her room as soon as he entered the Mansion and sit beside her and talk to her, unaware that she was now awake and could hear him as he lay out his feelings in the open. She peeked below again and saw him talking on the phone, standing beside his car. He said something to the chauffeur and then got back into the car. He was going back! Where?

She stared at his handsome visage for a long moment and then just as he glanced up again, she once again hid behind the curtains and closed her eyes in relief. She heard the engine being revved up and dared to sneak below. The dark, tinted windows now hid him from view. She stood there staring and suddenly, she heard a tiny explosion and watched horrified as flames burst into the night enveloping the car and licking its way to every side blocking every chance of escape!
