Of Silly thoughts and Silent Nights
God, I am so tired. Pari sighed to herself as she made her way into the kitchen to prepare dinner for herself and Geet. She had had a tough day at the office today. Maan sir had left early today, leaving her to deal with the last minute paper work regarding the new project that they were supposed to start working on from tomorrow. She had to stay back overtime to complete it, and had rushed back home afterwards thinking Geet would have reached and would be waiting at the door for her, only to be proved wrong. Geet wasn't here yet, though her train was supposed to arrive an hour ago. Wonder what's taking her so long. Maybe the train is late. You can never trust the Indian railways, she thought as she poured out some flour into the vessel before her and started preparing the batter for making some chapattis.
Pari had almost finished making her dinner when she heard the doorbell ring. It must be Geet, she thought as she rushed to open the door.
"Hey Geet. So finally you are here. Welcome to Delhi dear. Now, come on in." Pari said as soon as she opened the door and welcomed her guest inside. "Here, let me help you with your luggage."
"Thank You so much Pari. It's nice meeting you finally. I had heard a lot about you from Simran." Geet said as she handed out one of her bags to Pari and entered inside the apartment. "Sorry, I kept you waiting for so long. I had to visit a few places before I came here."
"Oh! No problem dear. Now go and freshen up. That's your room there. I'll set the table for dinner meanwhile."

Geet entered her room, finally relieved to be left alone to rest after the introduction and chit-chat session with Pari, who had proved to be even more talkative than her cousin Simran. Pari was a really nice host, and Geet would have enjoyed the chat if she wasn't as tired as she was now. She had had a long day and was quite exhausted with all the travelling; and couldn't wait to get some sleep. She had yawned a few times and that was when Pari decided to put an end to the conversation and let Geet retire to her room.
Geet examined the room in a quick stroll around it before finally slumping on to the bed. The room was smaller than the one in her apartment at Bangalore, but still it had a nice feel to it. The walls were painted a paler shade of lavender, and the curtains were white with purple flower designs. She also had a medium sized bathroom attached and even a little balcony for herself. The balcony was really small, with steel railings, but one could easily fit an easy chair, or maybe a drawing board in there. Also, there would be enough daylight since it faced an open area outside, observed the civil engineer in her. It could even be converted into an ideal workplace for her, she thought, though she would have to replace the small night bulb with a fluorescent lamp. Well, that is if she clears the interview tomorrow.
Ah, the interview. She wasn't exactly tensed about the interview, owing to the fact that she had attended atleast half a dozen of them during her campus recruitments back in college, before she landed up with her IT job. She was quite confident about bagging the job. The company couldn't possibly reject a candidate who passed the online entry test with a 99 percentile, and also she had an excellent academic record. Her only drawback was experience, but for the post of a junior engineer, that wouldn't be mandatory. But still, she couldn't help feel an odd sensation in her stomach, and she strongly doubted it to be anything related to the interview tomorrow. Actually, the feeling had started exactly after meeting her maybe- future- boss Maan Singh Khurana. His unwavering gaze on her had caught her off-guard, and she couldn't quite shake off the feeling even after four hours. Her thoughts kept going back to him, and she wondered what could be the reason for the weird behavior of his. I mean, how could someone be as tactless as to attend business calls at a place of worship? I'm sure he is a khadoos workaholic, thought Geet. But that didn't change the fact that the man was extremely hot and handsome. Geet was surprised at her own thoughts, for she was never the kind who would notice a guy like that. Well, actually the fact was that she never had the time. Back in school and college, she used to be too focused on her goals to notice anything else, though she had a decent share of male fan followings back then. Why would he stare at me like that, she wondered. Maybe she was looking weird with her hair all over the face, and pretty worn out from all the travelling. It wasn't exactly the best appearance to be seen in a Gurudwara. But then, he himself wasn't setting a great example, wearing a business suit to the place and attending business calls, leaving his grandmother to do her worship alone. Weird guy. His grandmother was really sweet though, and Geet wished she would meet her again. Maybe if I go to the Gurudwara again, I would run into her someday, she hoped.
Okay Geet, enough of all these stupid thoughts. You have an important interview to attend in the morning, so get some sleep. She scolded herself, forcefully evacuating her brain of the silly thoughts before closing her eyes with a sigh.

"Madam, the girl has reached Delhi. Now what should we do?" whispered the voice into the phone, trying hard not to break the silence of the night.
"Well, I had always expected that. Now you know what to do. It's your job to take care that he doesn't know," came the reply from the other end.
"Yes ma'am. I'll see to it. Anything else?"
"No nothing. Just keep me informed. Good night."
"Of course, ma'am. Good night." Said the voice before hanging up the phone and dissolving into the silence of the night.
