Part 26
Sid hung up the phone before it could connect. He didn't want to have this conversation through the phone, what he had to say needed to be said face to face. It was the only way that this conversation should go. So he placed his phone back and then picked up one of the many charts he had neglected for the past few days.

Shilpa never realized how tiring the ER could be. So many people with so many complaints and it was one of the few times while in the hospital where she worked the entire time. She was glad when a lull came and she had a chance to grab some food at the cafe. She had hoped for a slower night so that she could step away and find Sid and make sure he was alright, but of course things never go as planned. She knew better than most. As she waited for her food to be prepared she took a quick glance around the cafe and was pleasantly surprised when she saw none other then her bhaiya. She let out a small laugh as she observed him from afar surrounded by a pile of charts spread all around a table made for six and his laptop in front of him. The best part was that he was passed out with his head on a few of his charts his hands frozen on the keyboard. It was so the classic picture Sue described of Sid in college "studying". Before she grabbed her sandwich and drink she took a quick snap of it with her phone and then headed for the table. She knew she shouldn't but it was too easy. So she silently creeped up behind him and leaned in close to his ear and yelled as loud as she could, "BOO!"
Sid had no clue where he was but it definitely had to be a Sci Fi movie. He kept getting 'transported' from two different worlds. At first he was playing soccer with Jr and he heard Mahi and Avni laughing at Jr's latest attempt to score on Sid. And the next he was back in India where the woman he called out to wasn't Avni but Riddhima instead. He kept jumping back and forth from one scene to the other, never being able to fully enjoy either nor being able to figure out which one was true reality. Then all of the sudden he heard a loud 'Boo!' and he immediately jumped up and struck a defensive pose with his eyes shifting every which way. His heart was racing and he had no idea where in the world he was. And the weirdest part was that it was raining papers.
Shilpa was so glad she had already set down her food at another table. Because the second Sid woke up he struck the most ridiculous pose. In fact, as she tilted her head to get a better view she realized it was Jr's crouching tiger hidden dragon pose. And then the cherry on top was having the papers raining down all around him. Shilpa lost it and she just broke out into laughter and had to curl into herself to try and stop the pain in her stomach from laughing so hard.

Riddhima realized her mom had hung up the phone so switched her phone off. She knew there was something she needed to do, but she couldn't think of it just yet. Instead, she couldn't help but reflect on how her relationship with her parents had changed so much since losing Sid. No one really knew how it happened, or even why, but the changes with Sid leaving her weren't just finding herself divorced and alone in her love life, but some very odd dynamics in her family as well. It seemed as though when Sid left he took whatever relationship she had with her Papa as well. Papa couldn't get over all that had happened, oh sure he loved her she knew that, but they no longer had the unique Papa-beti bond they used to share. Instead it seemed as though her mother and her had bonded in a way that had been missing ever since she had found out the truth about her father. Riddhima still missed her Papa, and she swore that once she had resolved things with Shilpa she would work on her relationship with her father. But she was grateful her mother had stood by her side, that regardless of all the awful decisions she had made her mom had only shown her love and patience something she knew she didn't deserve. Thoughts of how her relationship with her parents had changed got her thinking about the past and she was once again pulled into thinking about her marriage. But before she could get too engrossed her phone rang, she started to answer it when she thankfully glanced at the screen and saw who it was. She immediately hit ignore, but the chills running through her body wouldn't stop. And she knew the only way to stop them was to distract herself, which wasn't going to happen in this motel room. So she quickly got dressed and headed out to try and get things moving.

Avni was half way home when she realized she had forgotten Siddhant's soccer bag at Sue's. She thought about calling and just having Sue or Sid bring it to the game early since Siddhant had a spare uniform at home already. But as she started to dial she realized that his cleats were in the bag. She put down her phone and turned her car around as soon as she was able. Of course Siddhant was ecstatic they were going back to Dowter Me's house. He hadn't stopped talking about the car either. She knew she had to make this pick up a quick in and out otherwise Siddhant would manage to kill another hour or two waiting for Sid. She sent up a quick prayer of thanks that her second child was sweet girl and not a trouble maker on wheels.

"Shilpa!!" Sid yelled. He still had a hard time getting grasp on what had actually happened. His mind was registering Shilpa's cackles on the side, but he was still in action mode. He took a few deep breaths in and out before he felt is heart beat start to slow down to a more normal pace. Only after his heart was under more control was he able to connect the dots. Obviously he had fallen asleep while working and of course Shilpa hadn't been able to resist the tempting picture he must have made so of course she had taken advantage. He had no choice but to concede gracefully, "Well done sis. Well done." Shilpa took the opportunity to hold her giggles in long enough to perform a graceful bow while saying, "Why thank you." Sid had to try really hard to hold his smile as he retorted with, "Just know that payback's en route." And with that parting shot he tried as best as he could to walk away gracefully. Only to set off more cackels from Shilpa when his right foot hit a sheet of paper causing him to loose his footing and flinging backwards landing as an awkward mass on his back. Shilpa took advantage and said, "Ooo I'm so scared." as she took a sip of her coffee and headed back to the ER.

Sue was trying really hard to pinch herself out of this nightmare. There was no way what she was seeing was real. It couldn't be. Because if it was then that meant that nothing would ever be the same. She tried with more force to shut the door, but the hand on it wouldn't budge. That started to spark her anger. Instead of letting loose all the words she had stored up inside she simply crossed her arms in front of her chest and stared down the other person waiting for them to get a clue that they were not invited here and the words they might say meant nothing. Sue waited and with each second that passed her anger built and with it her patience decreased. And still nothing. She felt a familiar itch in the center of her palm, the one that indicated she was about start a smack down, literally.
