Sue was excited to be driving home she couldn't wait to see what Sid's face looked like when she walked in with her surprise. She had enlisted Avni's help with the Little Guy and the baby to distract him while she got her surprise lined up, she knew he would have been curious about her waking up early on a Saturday morning when she spent as many hours sleeping as she could on her weekends off. She turned to her right not quite believing it was all true, even though she had had a whole month to prepare she couldn't quite believe they had managed to keep this a secret for so long. As she pulled up to their house she watched as the woman next to her got a glimpse of what she had seen first hand. There out on the front lawn was Sid playing soccer with Siddhant they were scrambling along for the ball, while he had Mahi in his arms. Sid had just attempted a goal and missed causing Siddhant to jump up with victory and Sid to fall down laughing. The woman's jaw dropped open and as she sat there watching. She watched as Sid lifted Mahi up and down above his head causing her to giggle. Siddhant had scrambled over and now was laying across Sid's stomach helping to contribute to the giggling baby by tickling her. All three were having a ball and as the woman watched them, watched him, her face slowly transformed into a grin. Sue had known seeing this change in Sid would have not only shocked her but made her happy. "Am I dreaming? Is this for real? I never thought I would see that smile...ever. What has happened? It's almost as if the old Sid is back." She turned to look at Sue's face to see if what she was seeing was just a figment of her imagination or if it really was the truth. Sue simply nodded her head in confirmation as she looked at the woman sitting next to her, ecstatic to be sharing this wonderful news with her in person. It had taken all of her will power to keep from spilling this change that had been occurring in front of her to one of her best confidants. She gave a slight head nod to let her know that they should get out of the car and head towards the man they were both relieved had emerged from behind the wall he had built to surround the heart that made him the man that he was. As both women slowly emerged out of the car neither could break their eyes from the man that after so long finally looked alive. They watched has he rose up from the ground holding the giggling little girl like a precious gift from God and reached down to take hold of the eager hand grasping for his. He laughingly walked away from them towards something else. The newcomer couldn't see what he was headed for, but she could tell that what ever it was it was the reason for his bright smile. She took a few steps closer and suddenly she saw it all. Her jaw dropped open in shock as Sid handed over the little girl to a woman who was simply radiated natural beauty. She hadn't bothered with a fancy dress or with a ton of makeup. She was simply a pair of worn jeans and a long t-shirt but the beauty that shined from her eyes, from her smile was from within. It was something that came from a woman who was comfortable with who she was who was confident in the life she led. It was the very thing she used to envy when she watched other women, but time and love from the woman that had picked her up and the man handing over the small girl had taught her that she too had that same confidence. At one time she had hoped her sister would have been the woman to teach her such valuable lessons, but that turned out to be...She was suddenly startled out of her reverie when Sue shook her slightly. She approached the family slowly not wanting to interrupt such a precious light hearted moment, and yet wanting to run over there so that she could become a part of it.
Sid was winded after yet another game of soccer with Jr and Mahi was getting heavier with each day, and yet when Avni had attempted to relieve him of her weight he had firmly told her no and continued to play the game while holding her tightly in his arms. Finally after Jr managed to stop yet another goal Sid collapsed to the ground, he lifted Mahi up in his arms and gently waved her back and forth eliciting that giggle that always made his heart lift in joy. He braced himself as he knew Jr would come crashing into him any second. The boy never strayed far. And he was right the kid came and landed not gently at all on his stomach knocking out the little wind he had regained and turned so that he too could look up at his little sister. And then he went about setting off more giggles by tickling her. Soon they were all giggling and tickling. Finally, after all had run out of breath Sid slowly sat up making sure Jr didn't fall over he then got up and held Mahi against his shoulder while reaching down to grab Jr's hand. He walked towards Avni and seeing the serene smile on her face he was glad he had listened to Sue's advice and invited them over for some lunch. His day always got a ton better when they were around. Once he got within hearing distance he called out to Avni, "And you thought I wasn't strong enough to play some soccer while holding this little one. Hmph. I sure showed you." He then proceeded to stick out his tongue at her. Avni did her very best to hold in the laughter that had built on Sid's comment and his tongue and retorted with a falsely haughty comment of her own, "Well, I was simply trying to look out for you, but hey if you want to throw out your back then who am I to stop you. In fact, since you're so strong and agile, you can hold her for the rest of the day." She ended her demand by turning away and flicking a strand of her hair over her shoulder and let the smile breakthrough on her face. And then it took everything she had to keep the laughter inside when her daughter had perfect timing. Sid was about to retort with a cocky comment of Fine I will, when Mahi chose that moment to start crying. Immediately his focus shifted to the little girl in his arms and he rocked her and whispered soothing words to her. But it seemed as though nothing he did would calm her down, not even blowing kisses on her belly, which was always a sure winner during crying jags. Finally, Sid cried uncle and called out to Avni, "Oye! Fine you win. Please take her and calm her down." Avni straightened the smile on her face and turned back with a false innocent face, "But why? You are big bad Doctor Sid, I'm sure you can handle her." Sid walked over to Avni and held Mahi out, "Please. I hate seeing her cry, especially if I am the reason can you please just take her I'm sure with the way my luck is running the second you simply hold her she will stop. And I promise....I promise to....to cook dinner for the next whole week." He could tell Avni was trying to figure out if that was supposed to be a reward or a punishment as all she'd had of his cooking grilling and he knew anyone would get sick of grilling for a whole week so he anticipated her next question, "And it will be something different each day. Pakka." Avni finally relented not so much because of the promise of dinner for the next week, although that in itself was a giant relief as cooking with the kids running a foot always turned out taking longer than it should, but because she could tell that Sid really was pained at the fact that Mahi was crying even though she knew her daughter was just being her usually drama queen self and wanted some Mommy time. She finally gave mercy on him and reached out to coddle her daughter. And as Sid had called it the second Avni's arms wrapped around her daughter her crying started and her baby cooing began. Sid mumbled to himself under his breath, "Go figure. Yeh Ladkiyaan always causing a ruckus just to get their way." Avni looked up with stern eyes and Sid immediately closed his lips and tried to look apologetic but both of them ended up cracking up with laughter instead. It was then when Avni noticed that there were people standing in the driveway behind Sid she squinted her eyes to get a better a look and immediately recognized Sue, but the woman standing next to her was someone she had never seen. She was about to tell Sid but was saved from doing so as he had seen her look over his shoulder and saw the confusion and curiosity on her face. Sid turned and looked over his shoulder he saw Sue first, and his smile brightened but as he looked over to the woman standing next to her he was shocked. It was as though a punch had been thrown into his stomach, he had never thought he would see her again and yet there she was walking towards him. Next to his sister. He didn't know what to do whether he should close his eyes and assure himself it was simply a figment of his imagination or if he should run towards her and grasp her hard and let her know how truly happy he was that she was here...now.
She watched as the he saw her and saw the shock go through him she didn't know if she should apologize or laugh at his reaction. But before she had to try and figure out if she should continue her barely restrained laid back walk or if she should run to him and get the hug she had been waiting for what felt like forever. She didn't have to hedge too long after the initial shock wore off he gave a quick glance at the baby girl that was in his arms presumably to make sure she was secure in the other owman's arms before he started to jog towards her with open arms and words at his lips, "SHILPAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Are you really here??? If you aren't then your real self is going to get a ticket in the mail ASAP." Shilpa let out her laughter as she ran towards her brother feeling like the little girls from grade school that she used to envy when their moms and dads came to pick them up at the end of a school trip. She ran straight into his arms and as his arms wrapped around her he lifted her up and they spun what felt like an infinite number of circles. They would have probably continued if Sue hadn't come up and yelled out, "ENOUGH! Superboy!!! If you squish her and make her sick then I will never forgive you. I have waited forever to see her and now you are going to make her sick." Sid stopped spinning and set Shilpa down gently and dutifully stepped back so that Sue too could join them still grinning like a fool. "Okay I listened, but that doesn't mean you two are going to get off so easily. Not that I'm complaining, but what in the world are you doing here???" he asked turning towards Shilpa. He then turned and looked at Sue, "And you! How did you know about her coming that you were able to and pick her up?" Both girls looked at each other and smiled at being able to pull of their surprise, clearly Sid hadn't had a clue of their conspiring. Shilpa took the lead, "Well this was kind of in the works for a few months, I applied for a fellowship in the States and yours was one of them I didn't know which one I would get so I didn't want to tell you and get your hopes up. And No before you ask Sue didn't know about it until last month when I gotten an offer from your hospital. Once I had gotten it I knew that this is where I was supposed to come to, not only to further my career but to be here with my family." She stopped and Sue took over, "Then last month she told me about, and I thought she was going to tell you but I guess you guys got distracted and she didn't. So the next time we talked I managed to convince her to keep it a secret so that we could see that dummy look on your face. Which we totally managed!" She turned towards Shilpa raising her hand in a high five which she received enthusiastically.
Sid simply shook his head at the joy his two sisters were having at his expense. Before he could ask his next question he was cut off by the angered voice of a toddler, "Who are you?!? And how dare you laugh at Dowtor Me?? He is my fweind and no one can laugh at him." Shilpa immediately stopped laughing and crouched down to face who must be the cutest boy ever. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you but I'm his little sister and I haven't seen him for a very long time and I was excited to see him. I was just laughing at the goofy face he made when he saw me. It doesn't mean I'm making fun of him, just laughing with him. See even he is smiling." Jr turned and looked up and saw that what the woman was saying was indeed true Dowtor Me was smiling immediately he felt all his anger disappear and he turned and addressed the most interesting part of her comment, "You're his little sister? I have a little sister too. Her name is Mahi, and I will make sure she never goes far away from me." He said it with such certainty that Shilpa didn't have the heart to tell him that odds were against that. As she herself didn't want to be far from her newly found brother and yet that is exactly what had happened. Instead she asked the boy a question of her own, "Well Mahi is lucky to have a brother like you. By the way my name's Shilpa whats yours?" Jr's face transformed into a grin upon hearing her name, "Hey! I have an aunt named Shilpa. I have never met her but I always hear about her she sounds cool. I heard that she is an awesome cricket player and that she loves to play pranks all the time. I can't wait to meet her. And my name's Siddhant." As Shilpa saw the smile on the boy's face she started to get a familiar sensation and then when he said his name was Siddhant she nearly fell flat on her behind. Siddhant, that's who he looked like it was eerie the way he had the same messy semi curly hair, the way he smiled not just with his lips but with his eyes and most of the all the way he stood. She glanced up and found Sid standing in the same manner. Is Siddhant Sid's...does that mean the girl, Mahi is his...and that woman is that...before any of her thoughts could finish the woman in question had approached and was standing slightly a drift a part of the circle and yet not quite. Shilpa glanced up with questions in her eyes that only the woman could see and before she was able to ask Sue interrupted, "Avni. So sorry we left you hanging by yourself, I want you to meet my sister Shilpa she has just come to the States and as you can tell by Superboy's face he had no clue she was coming. Anyways, Shilpa this is Avni Siddhant and Mahi's mom and Superboy and my good friend." Shilpa slowly stood up her confusion even more why is Sue saying they are just friends, is that all they are? Then how come Siddhant looks so much like Sid? I'm going to have to get Sue alone and ask her for now I will just accept what they are saying." She reached out her hand and grasped the one that was held out by Avni, "Hey, I'm Shilpa. It's nice to meet you." Avni smiled and responded in kind as she went to shift the baby Shilpa couldn't resist, "May I?"
Avni happily handed over the baby warmed by the immediate affection showered by this stranger. As she followed the rest of them inside with Sid holding Siddhant's hand Sue holding on to her elbow and the stranger carrying Mahi, she thought to herself, Who is this woman? When I first saw Sid's face I could have sworn she was the reason for the lost look he had always had in his eyes, the one that is still there but simply buried deeper. The one that he carries with him like a scar from old battle wounds. I could have sworn that this was the woman whose always with him and yet never there for him. But then she called him brother and even Sue acknowledged that she was her sister. Then how come I never heard of her before? And why was Sid so surprised at seeing her, it was almost as though he had always thought she would never come to visit him. And what did she mean by those questioning eyes? She was searching for answers from me. How am I the answer to those questions I'm going to have to get Sid alone and ask him what is going on. I know he hates talking about his past, but this some how has begun to involve me. The way this woman was looking at me it's almost as though she thought Sid and I were more than just friends.
