Part 109

After feeding and putting the kids to bed, the adults gathered in the hall. Akshita's crib was put next to Ani's cot in AR's room, so that they could hear her if she cried, but at the same time their voices didn't disturb her. They started talking about their work. Then it went to their past and to their college days. Everyone narrated some funny anecdote and all of them laughed.

For the first time Abhi seemed relaxed. He started talking about his childhood days, his school days. According to him Nikki, was a very cute girl, a little short and frail for her age. So it made her look all the more delicate. She told them how he used to take so much care of her, as if she was a porcelain doll. Always sided her when she quarelled with her friends. But when he stepped into his teens, everything turned upside down. He told them how she used to follow him around like a faithful puppy and all of them started teasing Nikki. Then it was Nikki's turn to pull his leg. She told them how he used to run at her sight and if she tried to talk to him, he would just climb up a tree. But the nostalgia ended on a sad note of Abhi's family shifting to Delhi.

To change their mood Armaan started about his and Riddhima's first meeting on the basketball court. He continued with how he made a fool of her on the first day and Riddhima told them about the date where she sent all his ex girlfriends. Rahul butted in with "Baap re kitna ladte the yeh dono. Armaan tu bata, tu itna kyon ladta tha Riddhima se?

A: She would get teased very easily, so I loved teasing her. But at the same time I greatly appreciated her as a doctor - her matured way of handling patients, her in-depth knowledge of medicines etc. Of course I didn't express this very often to her, but I still remember how she struggled and saved Mrs. Singh's baby, how she convinced Alok to donate one of kidneys to his father and how she cried when her patient died. She was a friend, philosopher and guide to her patients, like Sumit.

Ra: Riddhima, you tell us why you always quarrelled with him?

R: I detested his easy going and callous attitude and his playboy image. Inspite of all this I did like his generosity like buying slippers for the village people, supporting the need of social service ward in Sanjeevani and paying for Mini's treatment.

Ra: Lekin maine kabhie sapne mein bhi nahi socha ke you two would fall in love.

Muskaan couldn't resist adding "Haan, haan, janab khud, Riddhima ko chahthe the." That embarassed Rahul no end, but Riddhima saved him by saying "Come on Muskaan, don't tease Rahul. He was always just a good friend."

Ra: Tum bhi to Armaan ke peeche paagal thi.

Both Abhi and Nikki looked quite shocked. Then Rahul told them the incident of Armaan posing as Muskaan's boyfriend and going with her to Patiala and also that it proved to be one of the main reasons for Armaan Riddhima rift.

Nikki asked Riddhima, "If you loved Armaan so much, didn't you trust him to know he did so only to help a friend?"

A: No she never doubted my love for her. Only thing our perceptions of right and wrong didn't match. To her everything was either black or white. They were no shades of grey. Whereas to me everything was a shade of grey, mid way between absolute truth and total lies. I believed lies that helped someone and didn't harm anyone was fine and truth that caused problem to anyone, was better left unsaid.

"And it took me 7 years of seperation from him, to realize that I was wrong," said Riddhima as she moved closer to him and side hugged him. Even Armaan was surprised by her action. He didn't expect it from her, in front of all, especially in Abhi's presence. He was proud of his love and didn't hesitate to hug her back. "The seperation gave both of us the oppurtunity for introspection and repentence. This has made our bond even more secure now," he concluded.

Nikki asked Muskaan, "Agar Rahul Riddhima ko pasand karte the, aur tum Armaan ko, when did you realize your feelings for each other?"

M: Both of us were from Patiala. Actually hamare families to pehle se yahi chahthe the ke hum dono ek doosre se shaadi kare. Maybe that's what put me off in the first place. The diehard romantic in me wanted to fall in love with a tall, dark and handsome dude. Lekin shayad mere naseeb mein yeh khaankajura hi likha tha.

R: Yeh log bhi kuch kam nahi ladte the. At least we used to quarrel verbally, Muskan used to physically attack Rahul like a jungli billi. Par family ke liye jhoota shaadi rachaya aur sacha pyaar ho gaya. Right?

Both Rahul and Muskaan nodded in assent.

R: It's been a long day, I think we need to hit the bed now. We have lots and lots of time to reminiscence about the past, this whole week.

Rahul and Muskaan moved towards the stairs when Armaan called out, "Rahul don't miss this oppurtunity, Rohan has given you total freedom. Another baby will only double your happiness. And a leisurely vacation at a hill station is the best time for it. Best of luck, Dude."

Seeing Rahul and Muskaan blush, Riddhima called out "Armaan!" and glared at him.

A: Arrey sahi to keh raha hoon, Rohan also needs a sibling.

Riddhima just shook her head and proceeded with Nikki to her room, to pick Akshita's crib while Armaan and Abhi followed them. When Abhi picked up the crib Armaan held out his good arm for the baby saying "Let me give a goodnight kiss." When Nikki picked her up and put her in his arms, he held her close and his eyes were closed as if he was relishing the moment. Nikki and Riddhima stood watching him. On opening his eyes, when he found them staring at him, he felt embarrassed. He kissed the baby, wishing her, "Goodnight princess" and handed her to Abhi saying "You have a miss universe there. She's just too cute."

Abhi and Nikki left with a smile on their face, proud of their darling daughter. When Armaan closed the door and turned around, he dashed against Riddhima who was standing right behind him. As soon as he turned, she took him into a rib-crashing hug. Armaan was happy with her mood and hugged back. Then feeling some wetness on his shirt, moved back and picked up her chin with his fingers. Seeing tears trickling down her cheeks, he was shocked. "Kya hua riddhima? Why are you crying?"

R: I'm very sorry Armaan,

A: Sorry for what?

R: I couldn't give you the daughter you yearn for.

A: Arrey, just because I cuddle Akshita doesn't mean I'm yearning for a daughter. You know I love kids. Had it been a boy, then too I'd have done the same. Take it out of your head that I miss having a daughter. I told you before also, if at all in future we want a daughter, we can always adopt one of the 'nanhi paris'.

Then winking at her he said "I only wish that this bandage was not so cumbersome. Right now, what I really miss is making passionate love to my wife." She giggled at his complaint saying "Don't lie Dr. Mallik. That arm has not hampered your activities in any way. I've personally ensured that all your needs are fulfilled."

A: Yes, that's true, I totally agree, but only request for a repeat performance.

R: Repeat performance of what?

A: Of the night we returned from Chennai.

"Repeat perfromance of such a tiresome journey would be too boring Dr. Mallik," she teased him. "Of course you know very well I didn't mean the journey but what happened after coming home. But as you say, why have a repeat performance? You could do something new and refreshing." It was his turn to tease her now."

She stood on her toes, pulled his head down and gave him a short sweet kiss on his lips saying "for tonight this is all you get. The house is full of guests. So chup chaap so jao."

A: Arrey what do the guests have to do with this. They are doing the same in their room so why not…..

"Armaan you've tired yourself out today, you've to do those exercises and rest. Ok?" she said very chweetly as if she were talking to Akshat and started undressing him. (Removing and wearing his shirt was still difficult for him to handle on his own). As he held her in his one arm, he remembered her hug in front of others and said "I think our friends coming over is doing a lot of good to our relationship too. It's good to see you getting bolder in front of others Mrs. Mallik," he teased her as he pulled her beside him on the bed. She understood what he meant. Leaning over him she said "as we were talking about our past, pata nahi kyon, I just felt like flaunting our love. It made me feel so secure and blessed. You were right in inviting Nikki and Abhi here. It has helped exorcise the ghosts of the past."

Then she got up and said, you do the exercises I'll change and come. The arm movement exercise was still a little painful. Hearing him hiss, she came from behind and helped him. Feeling her so close, her fragrance was intoxicating him. Riddhima also got carried away. What began as exercising ended up elsewhere.
