Part 20
Sid looks dwn distracted fr a matter of a nano second and Riddhima forces herself out of his grip and dashes to the bathroom. She shuts the door behind herself and Sid falls on his knees behind the bathroom door. Riddhima has her back to the door and slowly starts to slid down and fall on the floor. Tears gush out of her eyes. Pain runs throbs throught out her body. She sits there with her head filled with Sid memories of holding her in the same manner. She is reminded of all those close moments they shared. Her regret is at its zenith as she realises tht she has lost the Sid she loved because of her insensitivity towards him in the past. She shakes her head in regret.
"Tumney sab kuch koh diya apni wajas seh" She keeps repeating tht in her head.
Sid on the other hand sits outside the bathroom door with his head in his hands. His eyes swell with tears bt he refuses to shed them. He tries to ignore the pain. To avoid his agony. To defeat his love. His brain tells him to go away bt his body refuses to act on it. He sits there paralysed. Thinking of all the moments he had with Riddhima. Thinking of wht he shared with her.
"Wht is it? Why am I so velnerable when it comes to Riddhima. Why does my logic, my thinking, my way of life leave my side when Riddhima is involved?" He wonders with a heavy heart.
He touched the door with his hand on last time and thinks tht if dsnt leave Riddhima wnt come out. He leaves without even checking the message, knowing it wud be frm Tamanna and still wonders wht made Riddhima so special to him.

Bench scene (Sid and Dheeraj)
Sid drops himself on a bench infront of the hotel. And look to find Dheeraj in his torn apart vest selling chai. Sid drops his gaze and gts lost in his scattered thoughts of his life.
Dheeraj: Sid.. chai lelo na. Mera saab hai na mere ko paisa nahin dega agar koi chai nahin lega.
Sid (looks up): tuney apna pesha badal liya?
Dheeraj: pesha yani kaam? yani dhanda? nahin toh.. main kab seh yahi kar raha hoon.
Sid: nahin tu anjaan logon seh pit tha (beaten up) bhi hai na?
Dheeraj (laughing): kuch lena hai?
Sid: de de....
Dheeraj: aap haans rahey ho par dil se nahin...
Sid: acha? (sarcastic)
Dheeraj: kya hua? nahin patti?
(Sid shakes his head)
Dheeraj: koi baat nahin Paro bhi Devdas seh kaun sah pehli baar mein patti thi...
(Sid's phone keeps beeping and he thinks if he stops Dheeraj by his side he wud be able to completely block out Tamanna. Riddhima on the other hand stands by the window and has a clear view of Sid. She smiles and silently thanks Dheeraj fr being there for Sid.
Dheeraj gts up to leave)
Sid: kahan jaaa raha hai?
Dheeraj: kaam peh!
Sid: chal mein tere seh sari raat chai pee loonga
Dheeraj: sach?
Sid: par tujhe yahan beit na hoga...
Dheeraj: mast hai. Par Paro kyun nahin maani?
Sid: kyun keh... bas nahin maani..
Dheeraj (looking at his phone): yeh aapki Chandramuki hai kya?
(Sid nods)
Dheeraj: uff.. Abhi tak Paro nahin patti aur Chandramuki ki entry bhi hogayi....
Sid: Chandramuki ki entry Paro seh pehley hui thi... Issliye Devdas ko Paro ko chodna hoga..
Dheeraj: entry pehley hui hai toh kya? Chandramuki Paro nahin baneygi!
(Sid laughs at the kid's innocence and Riddhima smiles looking at him laugh amidst the visible tears in his eyes. Sid looks up and around, sure tht he felt Riddhima around. Riddhima quickly hides behind the window.)
Dheeraj: kya hua?
Sid (seeing Dheeraj cold): nahin kuch nahin. Chal dhabey keh andhar chal tey hain...
(He gts up and spots Riddhima's reflection by the window in a side mirror of a car. He smiles looking at her despair as she wud nt be able to see him inside the dhaba. Sid has a change of mind and sits back on the bench. He takes off his coat and makes Dheeraj wear it.)
Sid: waisey Mumbai tu kyun aana chahta hai?
Dheeraj: merey koi bhimari hai angrezi mein...
Sid (laughing): angrezi mein bimari hai?
Dheeraj: haan.. aur merey ko wahan jaana hai. Agle mahiney.
(A man frm the hotel comes and hands Sid a blanket.)
Dheeraj: ooohhhh! Paroooooo?
Sid: tujhe chai nahin bhech ney nahin jaana?
Dheeraj: sorry.. sorry...
(They spend the night like tht. Sid dsnt go up, knowing Riddhima wud feel guilty. They stood the night with great patience on both sides.
They leave fr Mumbai the next morning. Sid felt things he hadnt felt fr a while. He wud look to Riddhima frm time to time. Riddhima pretended to be busy with her phone. It ws the only way to keep Sid away frm her thoughts bt it wsnt working. Her thoughtsn kept going back to last nights incident. Both of thm were unaware of hw to react to wht they felt. )
Riddhima (thinking): Maybe I should start speaking. Par kya Sid merey liye wahi feel karta hai jo main uskey liye... Par kal raat...
(She looks to Sid and smiles at his unnecessary amount of concentration on the road. riddhima realised they were both trying to ignore each other's presence.)
Sid (thinking): kal raat kya hua tha mujhe? Woh kya tha.. Main Riddhima ke liye joh feel karney laga hoon kya woh bhi merey barey mein aisa soch thi hai?
Restaurant scene (SR and Caroline)
They stop by a restaurant owned by a sweet old lady. Upon seeing Sid and Riddhima she smiles lovingly. She looked well above her fifties and her skin tone indicated she belonged to England.
Lady: hello! My name is Caroline and u must be?
Sid: Sid.
Caroline: And ur wife's name?
Sid: Riddhima bt hw did u noe tht shez my wife?
Caroline (laying a hand on Sid's shoulder): Im old nt blind my dear. I can see love when it stands before me.
Sid: no its nothing like tht...
Caroline: ahhh... Nw is it nt? U shud ask ur wife abt it..
(Sid look towards Riddhima and she looks away frm Sid ryt at tht moment.)
Caroline: come along u can have all day to stare into each others eyes.
SR: no... We jst...
Caroline: I know I know u were jst looking past one another...
Sid: where r we going?
Caroline: all the tables seem to be booked which is why I would wnt to take u to a VIP area.
Sid: huh?
Caroline: oh dnt worry its nothing.
(They enter a little scented room. SR exchange looks as they enter the room. The lady sits and signals thm to do the same. The waiter comes and takes their order.)
Caroline: its really good to have young couple like urself.
Riddhima: Thank you fr the table.
Caroline: ur welcome dear. Nw enough of all this hw did u two meet?
Sid: on a bench.
Caroline: interesting. Love at first sight?
Riddhima: nt really.
Sid: well its all her fault.
Riddhima: my fault?!
Sid: well duh.. U come in to my life with a torn lehenga and ofcourse nt to frget ur gorgeous make up.
Riddhima: arrey haan... Uss raat mein apney ghar seh bhagtey waqt main apney grand entrance keh barey mein toh bhool hi gayi thi...
Sid: toda sa toda toh consider kar ley thi kal raat jaaney seh pehley.
(Caroline laughs at this point. They both look to her in shock and realise she had been there all along.)
Caroline: carry on.. Me and Mr. Banerjee were the same..
Riddhima: Mr. Banerjee?
Caroline: My whole name is Mrs. Caroline Banerjee.
Sid: and where is Mr. Banerjee?
Caroline: he left us very long ago...
SR: we're really sorry.
Caroline: no dnt be! Because his memories lives within me. Mr. Banerjee and I were total opposites.
Sid: thn hw did u manage to build such a strong relation?
Caroline: I had come to India fr a documentary and Mr. Banerjee ws my associate in the project. We faught through out my stay in India, never did we think of each other as anything other than enemies.
Riddhima: thn hw did u noe it ws him?
Caroline: because when I went back to England, there ws a hole gapping in my chest. I ws at home bt still restless. And thts when I realised tht Mr. Banerjee ws home.
Sid: And thts wht it feels like? like home?
Caroline: ofcourse nt at first dear!
Sid: then hw ds love feel at first?
Caroline: at first its complicated! U think of ways to run away frm it bt it defeats u. You wud share anything and everything with the person u love. Be it willingly or unwillingly.
(Sid looks to Riddhima remembering hw he shared with her everything frm the very first moment they met.)
Caroline: You wud be drawn to tht person against ur desire.
(SR go through their memory of last night.)
Caroline: bt dear if there is nothing like love in ur marriage why is it tht u relate everything I say to the young lady beside u.
(Riddhima blushes and Sid looks up in shock)
Caroline: Honey let me remind u I am old bt nt blind, I saw the way u wud look at her.
(Sid puts his hand on his forehead and rubs it gently. Embarassed by himself he looks away.)
Sid: Mr. Banerjee.... Did he love u?
Caroline: well ofcourse he did. He wud send me a flower every morning when I came back to India. It felt like home again. Oh dear! with all this talking I almost frgot abt ur food. Its getting cold.
(Both SR eat and towards the end of the lunch Riddhima excuses herself and leaves to the washroom.)
Caroline: I dnt understand. I see love in boh ur eyes thn why do u hold it back?
Sid: its jst tht I hav commitments and she might nt love me anymore.
Caroline: If Mr. Banerjee loved someone else and came to me fr his commitment to me, I wud never accept him. Sid love is never out of sympathy.
Sid (desperation clear in his voice): bt wht if she dsnt love me?
Caroline: Has she made it clear?
Sid: She has tld me bt thn I hurt her alot.... And Im nt sure.
Caroline: I see myself and MR. Banerjee in ur love. Honey it cannot be weak,
Sid (with a slight smile): its wht makes me stronger.
Caroline: really?
Sid: yes!
Caroline: then acknowledge it Sid! Tell her tht! Before its too late.
Sid: U r right. I am being wrong to Tamanna when I make her believe tht I love her.
(He gets up and before leaving kisses the Caroline's hand. Caroline hands him a chain with a pendant tht read "Home")
Caroline: Mr. Banerjee gave it to me. And the next time I see tht girl I wnt to see this around her neck.
Sid (smiling at the necklace): She is my home. She is MY Riddhima.
Caroline: I guess u shud tell her tht since she has been longing to hear tht more than me.
Sid: Thank you so very much!
(With tht he leaves through the door and looks fr Riddhima with glow in eyes and satisfaction in his heart.)
