"So, when are you planning to convert the statement you made to Dr. Amrita into reality?"
Geet put the pooh beside and held his collar and pulled him closer and said, "What statement?" playfully. She knew what he was talking about, but she did not want to answer him straight away.
"Ahaa! You don't remember? Then don't worry about it, we can always deal with it next time" said maan smirking.
Geet's playful expression changed to a serious one. She had expected him to try a little harder to get things out of her, but here he simply put the topic off for later. She had to retaliate, she told herself.
"Maan, agar mujhe yaad nahi hai, tuo aap bataeye!" said geet hoping he would say it himself. She wanted to hear it from him. She wanted him to address her as "Geet Maan Singh Khurana". She had already done it once, now It was his turn.
"Geet! chodo na kuch aur baath karte hai". said maan enjoying the disappointment on geet's face.
"nahi!", she said frustrated. "char ya paanch mahine ke baad, maan", came her reply to his question.
Maan smiled and said, "hmm, aakhir sawal ka jawab dena hi pada tumhe".
"tuo aur kya karti? Maan, seriously only you can do this to me, mujhe chup karana, mujhse baat ughalwana, sirf aap hi jaante hai!"
"Alright alright, thanks for the compliment. So you want to get married 1 or 2 months after your delivery?" he asked taking her hand in his and sitting back straight.
"Hmmm!" she said. "By the way it gives you more time to propose too, since you have not done it till now" she said with a lopsided smile.
"I can do that right now, right here Geet. Why should I wait for another 4 or 5 months to make our relationship official?"
"No!" said geet hurriedly, "I want the proposal in style!" she said with a mischievous smile.
"Style haan? Too many expectations, don't you think?"
"Why not? I 'm going to be associated with a man who has never compromised, so why should I?"
"Okay!which style?"
"Maan Singh Khurana Style" said geet kissing his cheek.
Maan examined her for sometime and then rested his head to hers and said, "Do you have any dreams about how I should propose?"
"Water! Water is the only hint I can give you Mr. Maan Khurana! The rest is for you to guess and solve the puzzle and ofcourse come up with a plan".
"Water? But why water out of all things?" asked maan perplexed.
"Well, you have to think back a little, to know why I chose water. I guess you are smart enough to understand".
"Alright! I'll think about it. Now tell me how was your work today!"
Geet remembered what happened at work and narrated the whole incident of Sasha coming to her rescue. Maan was not moved even a bit at Sasha's gesture. He listened to the whole incident and geet's opinions on why Sasha would have helped. He then grabbed his phone and showed geet some messages that he had received from Sasha, before she met Geet at the farmhouse!
Geet looked at the messages and sat up on the bed. She left maan's hand and scrolled up and down the messages to read them again and again. She then looked at maan's expressions that indicated that he was perfectly calm.
She spoke , very softly, "What is all this?agar woh aapse pyar karti hai, tuo mujhe help kyon ki?ab kounsi chaal chal rahi hai who?"
"Geet yeh koi chaal nahi hai. woh itni bhi buri nahi hai ki who kisi ko marne ke liye chod de. Woh meri munshiji ki beti hai, atleast a little of his goodness must be running in her blood, right?"
"Maan, aap isiliye pareshaan the?", geet asked moving closer to him and holding his hand firmly in hers.
"hmm,I was, for sometime, but I've known sasha for so many years, so I knew it would not difficult to handle her. And I was right. I guess she accepted the fact that I would never reciprocate her love".
"hmmm!I can see that in this meassage. And geet read one message to herself again:
"MK, I'm sorry for over-reacting in the restaurant. I've always got what I wanted, but when you told me a "no" point blank, I could not take it. I guess, I cannot get everything I want in life. But, I would never stop loving you. You need not worry MK! I am not going to interfere in your life. I will remain in Khurana Constructions as your chief architect and as your strength in your business issues forever. I know this would be lame, but MK, I will be there for you as your childhood friend and your most trusted employee always! Sorry once again, like you said, I'm ready to move on. Might take me sometime, but that's okay. I'd rather give up my love, than giving up your friendship forever!"
She looked up at him again and deleted the messages he had saved to show her. She hugged him and said, "you okay?"
"I've never had problems in hugging you for the last couple of weeks. Obviously I'm okay with you, infact I have a problem when go away from my arms", he exclaimed.
"Maan!" she said softly yet angrily.
He laughed and said, "Sorry! Haan, main theek hoon. Mujhe kya hoga?"
"hmm, theek hai!" she said laughing too.
Shimla:
It was 7pm and Dev was still working at the construction site. Mr. Nanda walked upto him and greeted him.
"Hello, Dev" he said softly and sat in the chair opposite to Dev.
"Hello Mr. Nanda!" said dev looking at him.
"aap yaha abhi tak hai. aaj tuo Saturday hai. Phir bhi kaam kar rahe hai".
"Mr. Nanda, jab ghar jaane ka koi matlab hi na ho tuo office mein kaam karna hi option hai na. aaj mujhe samaj aaya ki mere bro itne saal tak kaam pe dhyaan kyon diya. Because there was no one waiting for him at home".
"But your wife is here in Shimla".
"Mr. Nanda, lets not talk about her. Aap kahiye, aap yaha kaise?"
"Haan, who aur 2 weeks mein yeh project khatam ho jayega. So, I had to speak to you about the profit shares".
"Mr. Nanda, we will do that as decided by my daadiji and my bro. I'm not interested in taking the entire credit. I don't need 60% or 70% of the profit share. Whatever has been decided previously is what you will transfer to my account".
"But your wife?"
"Oh you don't have to worry about her. She will not know anything about it. I am not unnecessarily fighting for something that I do not deserve. I am not going against my bro or daadiji for money. I guess I have done enough mis.." and stopped.
Mr. Nanda looked at him and understood what he meant. "Is that final then?" he asked Dev.
"Yes Sir!" said Dev assertively.
"alright then I'll process all the required paper work" said Mr.Nanda getting up to leave.
Dev nodded his head and got up from his chair. He walked towards the window and looked at the valley. He was lost in deep thought. He had very less time left but naintara had not changed an inch. He thought he still had one month time but the work was moving at jet speed, no matter how much he tried to slow it down. He did not want to return to Delhi but it looked like he had no option left. He had to call Maan and talk to him about any other project that he could work on, away from Delhi. Yes, he would do that the first thing Sunday morning. He sent maan a text message, telling him that he would call him Sunday morning to discuss business.
Outhouse, Khurana Mansion:
Geet was sleeping on Maan's lap and she had a sweet smile playing on her lips. She tried to imagine herself in the bridal outfit with Maan beside her. A slight blush came on her face and her cheeks turned pink and then red as she was too shy to picture it. Maan who was busy reading the newspaper all this while had not noticed how far geet's imaginations were travelling.
He still looked into the magazine and asked, "so, what plans for the night?"
"night, Suhaag raat" said geet still picturing the marriage sequence in her head.
Maan threw the newspaper aside and questioned, "kya kaha?"
Geet came back to reality and quickly got up to sit beside maan. She was embarrassed at what she had just said unconsciously.
She tried to correct her statement and said, "aapne kya poocha?"
"Main yeh janna chahta tha ki tum raat ko kya karoge? Will you directly go to bed or will you study for sometime?"
"Oh! I guess I'll study for sometime and then sleep. And please don't wake me up tomorrow morning. I'll wake up whenever I feel like!"
"Okay! As you wish. And what did you think I asked you previously?" he asked curiously.
He knew he had heard Suhaag Raat but he was not sure if she had said that or if he was imagining things.
"kuch nahi! Kuch nahi!" she fumbled, looking away from him. Her ears had turned red due to awkwardness.
"Geet kaho jo kehna hai!" said maan turnig her to face him.
"kuch nahi. mujhe juice chahiye. Bhook lagi hai!" she said.
Maan nodded his head and got up from the bed.
"Which one do you want?"
"Orange!" she said, that was the only fruit she could think of. She was desperate to divert maan's attention away.
Maan turned to leave the room, grinned and bent towards her. He whispered, "agar tum chaho tuo proposal ke pehle hi hum woh…. mana sakte hai! its upto you, ya phir..abhi …" and geet could not handle it anymore, stopped him.
