UPDATE 6
Ridz couldn't keep her anticipation bottled. She was filled with so much energy and excitement that she couldn't even sit still. Instead she paced back and forth waiting. Then she felt it, that innate feeling that told her that Sid coming towards her. Then a few seconds later she heard the sound she had been subconsciously waiting for, the sound of Sid's car pulling into the driveway. Immediately her heart started racing and her lips curled into a smile. She rushed over to her spot and waited. While she waited for Sid to come in she couldn't help but reflect on how she used to think it was ridiculous that a wife was able to anticipate her husband coming home and open the door just as he was about to knock, or how a mom could feel her son's footstep as he stepped into the mall. She always thought that was Bollywood at it's best, or more in her opinion worst. How much more unrealistic could they get? I mean come on, it's one thing to hear their car or to guesstimate that it was close to the time they said they would come. But to feel that other person? To have your heart start to flutter and lift up with joy even before you realize that other person is nearby that was something Ridz would have never thought to be real. In fact she remembers clearly having a fight with Angie about it. Angie although tough on the outside was in fact a romantic at heart and had claimed that a woman just knew when her man was near her, that there was some innate bond that just told her.
(FLASHBACK)
Angie and Ridz were having their weekly sister movie night and watching Dil ne jise apne kaha. About three quarters of the way through Angie sighs and says, "Now that's what I call true love. Even after her dying her heart still remembers its other half."
Ridz grabs a handful of popcorn and responds with, "Oh please. Come on Ang you're a doctor you know the heart has no memory cells. It is an organ and sure I like to believe that when it is in your body and connected to the brain it's the thing that twinges in pain when you see the one you love leave, and it sighs in happiness when you see the one you love come. But the heart itself doesn't hold the memories. Nor does it have the ability to detect the one it belongs to like a radar. And to say you think it's realistic to believe that because she got the woman's heart she obtained her love for her husband too?? Are you kidding me Ang?"
"Oh my gosh, Ridz. You are such a cynic. What happened to the little girl who dreamt of fairytales and white knights?" Angie asked in shock.
Ridz responded in the monotoned voice she had been using for almost a year now, "That girl was a fool to think that her first love was her true love. To think that love would last forever. She learnt a hard lesson that caused her to realize that life isn't full of fairytales and that to think that love lasts forever is just setting yourself up for failure."
Upon hearing the painful words come out of Ridz's mouth without a single drop of emotion saddened Angie. The Ridzy she had known for the past 25 years got lost after that terrible incident in Sanjaveeni. The one that led with her heart instead of her brain. The one that saw good in everyone. The one that was fast to anger but just as fast in forgiveness. Instead before her sat a woman who looked exactly like the Riddhima she knew, who did the things Riddhima would have done. But instead of giving off that warm sweet vibe of life, she was a rough cold vibeless woman. Angie went over towards Ridz and wrapped her arms around her sister hoping in vain that she could help jolt her back. "Ridzy I'm sorry. I didn't want to bring that up. I know you have dealt with a lot."
Still in a steely voice Ridz said, "It's ok Di. It's done and over with. He's gone and it no longer matters. I just wanted to say that even though Armaan and I loved each other with all our hearts. He still left me. He didn't look back once. Just up and left me while I was in surgery. When I needed him the most." Ridz paused and Angie felt a change in her sister. She no longer sat so rigid and her eyes were starting to tear up. Angie thought to herself this is it. Finally Ridz is letting all that she has held on to out. After a year she is finally lightening the sorrow in her heart. Ridz sniffled and continued in a teary voice, "I mean Di, if our love wasn't strong enough to survive that attack at the hospital last year, then what is? I mean he owned my heart, and I thought I owned his. But even though we were both in love he left. If the heart of a dead woman placed into another woman's body was able to keep their love alive were reality, then didn't his heart tell him once that I needed him? Didn't his heart ache for me? Didn't his heart hear and feel my heart call for him? Was our love not true enough? Was my love not enough?" And with those words Ridz broke down on her sister's shoulder. She finally let out all the sorrow, pain, confusion and heartbreak.
As Ridz shook in her arms Angie spoke from the heart, "Ridz there was nothing lacking in your love. Nor does that mean that your love wasn't true. Ridzy you have to remember that just because we fall in love with someone it doesn't mean they will fall for us. And even if you both fall in love with each other it doesn't mean that it will last forever. Unfortunately, no matter how much we try to hold on to our love's, fate will always have the final say. We can't fight destiny. We can only make the most of the time we are given. And although Armaan and your's love story didn't have a happy ending, nor did it last forever. You two were lucky enough to have fallen in love with each other and to experience love reciprocated." She gave Ridz a squeeze and continued, "Ridzy our first love isn't necessarily the love we are meant to have forever. One day someone will come and he will teach you to love again. You will then realize that although right now you are broken with the loss of Armaan and his love you are not dead. You will learn to live again, one day you will wake up and your heart will ache a little less. Then a little while later you will notice the sun being brighter. Eventually, that hole in you heart that was hollow will become filled with memories of young love and hopefully it will start pumping for someone else."
(FLASHBACK ENDS)
Ridz didn't want to hear the words at the time nor did she believe that love would come into her life. Not because it didn't exist at all, but because it wouldn't exist for her. She wouldn't let it. But as they say we make plans and God laughs. And boy he must have had a laughter fit when he sent Siddhant into her life. For Angie was right a man did come into her life and Sid was the perfect man to take a broken cynical woman and make her learn to live again. To learn to not just see that the world continued but to against all odds fall in love again. And now she was so in love that her heart could sense when Siddhant was coming towards her. She may not see him nor may she have a reason to think he was coming but her heart always knew. Now she had no choice but to believe in that innate feeling because even before she admitted to herself that she loved Sid her heart would tell her when he was near or not, when he was hurt or not. And at first it certainly confused her but now she knew exactly why. It was to let her know when he was coming to her, just like now. Just as she heard the key being inserted into the lock, Ridz adjusted her wrap around her shoulders as her heart bounded in anticipation of what Sid's face would look like when he saw what lay before him...
